I think you set it on MANUAL, and then put in individual timings based on what your ram will tolerate. Check the documentation that came with your ram for the specs. Generally, the lower the timings, the better, and first you adjust timings before voltages. Then you have to test for stability and heat. It's been a while since I overclocked.

So you mean that 600mhz DRAM is faster than 900mhz DRAM?

No. Actually I'm thinking when you go to MANUAL mode, you may be able to bump that up to 1600mhz cuz that's what you say your ram is rated at? But I don't know for sure. There may be a multiplier effect going on where you have to divide the rating. I just don't know off hand with your setup. I would have to do some research to figure it out and I'm about to fall asleep (lol).

The "timings" are the other settings (e.g., tas). Get those from the instructions that came with your ram or the company website.

What music program is that? I run a lot of music programs myself. Reaper is one of them and with lot of plugins such as Superior drummer and a bunch of vst plugins it can suck up to 2 gb, but still I have enough free ram. I allso use Sony vegas for video editing and i use windows server sometimes. I never need more than 4 gb of ram.

The DRAM Frequency i am talking of (600mhz) is as is shown in CPU-Z program, and apparently you are supposed to multiple it by 2 to get the right result, so I guess I am running my memory currently at 1200mhz (even it is 1600mhz).

I didn't know what the f*ck I was doing with the memory settings so just left them on AUTO on BIOS I let the processor run at 3ghz so it seems to work fine like this (except the fan is a bit louder), but I am happy to get the extra boost.

I don't necessary use all of the 12gb RAM, but once you start to use large sample libraries stacked next to each other and add up tracks, you will need lots of RAM. I want to be able handle a project with 128 tracks if I need to (I have never used so many), but I like the idea that I can do it if I want, so better to load up your system with memory. And RAM is so cheap these days..

I'm tweaking my New Rig plan/design. I've penciled in a Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost), and a GTX 580 or the newest GTX590 (Dual) card.

Any thoughts/advice?

It was mentioned in an earlier post that Windows 7/32bit will only access 3.6GB of RAM. Is that correct?
I have been thinking of going with Windows 7/64bit, with CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (2 x 4GB) or G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB). [All I've read agrees that more than 8GB is a total waste]
My question now is: Will Windows7/64Bit access all of that 8GB RAM?

yes, that sounds familiar. I seem to remember I could not overclock my p4 correctly until I had the ram speed and the timings inputed in the bios. So if your running your ram slower than it can handle, you can't overclock your cpu as much and you hit instability wall. those AUTO ram settings might be holding you back on your overclock is what I'm trying to say.
