Tally-ho!

Hey all!

Firstly I just want to declare how much I love this game. In fact, it was the primary reason I purchased a 'next gen' console (haven't owned one since the PS1!). I have been into WW2 aircraft since I was a kid, so this game just appeals to my interests perfectly

I live in the UK so my time zone is GMT and I usually play in the evenings (18:00 - 00:00) whenever I get chance. However, Mondays and Wednesdays are definitely the best days to catch me online.

My gamertag is: Los Rhysos and prefer playing in realistic mode, but am also happy with arcade battles if there is a game on. Sim is too hardcore for me at the moment, but will get there eventually ;)

My love of aircraft came from many airshows from my younger years, in my teens i joined the ATC 2468 SQN and had the joy of learning to fly a small 2 seater aircraft called the Chipmunk. I would love to fly again but i guess flight sims will have to do for now.:o

Ha ha, snap! I also flew the Chipmunk years back when I was in the ATC (1003 SQN) I seem to remember that the engine had a cartridge start system. It was like firing a shotgun round into the engine to get the prop to turn over. Bet you don't see many of these in operation anymore!

welcome v1 cut and los rhysos. v1 if you ever get on late at night look me up there have been some lively games aftre 11 lately. but for both of you...the time you are on you should find a bunch of the guys from the uk on then. hit up robotic pope and the others and you will have some very pleasant games. enjoy.

Hi everyone, I found this game at my local Gamestop for $10.00 and thought it would be well worth it considering my love for flight sims. So far I'm in LOVE with it. It's above and beyond Ace Combat. I have quite a bit of PC flight sim experience.

Lock On: Modern Air Combat
Flight Simulator 2004
Combat Flight Simulator
Aces High II

I'm still getting used to playing a sim style game with a console controller but I'm getting there. I play on Xbox 360 and I'm in the Eastern time zone. I'm online usually late at night/very early morning so I'm sure I'll be on around the same time as the Brit guys. Unfortunately every time I try and play online there are no games :( does no one play anymore? If anyone would like to play my gamertag is pwncakes rool.

cb1221 10-30-2011 05:51 PM

Hello All.
My name is zl2bmh (jim actually) and I live in New Zealand. I have got IL2 Sturmovik 1946, which I really enjoy, even with my aged eyes, and would like to know when Birds of prey was released.

Regards,

welcome to the forum zl2bmh and tha3soa4Eew.

zl2bmh, birds of prey has been out for about 2 years now. it is a PS3 and Xbox so it isnt as complicated nor as intricate as the PC games like CoD or 1946. which system are you using and when are you on?

tha3soa4Eew, there are a ton of good PS3 guys here who will help you get your feet wet. go back through this thread to find the ones you can add to your friends list who are on the same times as you. I wouldnt wait too long before getting online. if the PS3 is like Xbox...you will find online play different than single player. so might as well jump in and start taking your lumps sooner. you will find most of the games will be in real and sim. but the guys will show you the tricks...

Bacadcaba 11-21-2011 07:50 PM

help

hey im new and i cant find any body online i play on realistic and have no clue where everbody who plays online is i have it for the xbox 360 and im pacific time

bobbysocks 11-21-2011 08:40 PM

welcome bacadcaba, if you try to simply join a game its pretty much hit and miss....mostly miss. you will get a funky message about the servers, etc, etc.. this only means there arent any open games at that moment...it doesnt mean people arent playing. go back through this thread and get the names of the xbox players in your area or who are on whne you are and add them to your firends list. THAT is the best way for find games. you can add me GT: Bobbysockser. i am usually on late night if i get on...9 to ??? your time. in the meanwhile check out the rest of the forum....there is a lot of info here.

nilling 12-02-2011 11:24 AM

Regardles of which mode you play; Have fun!

Wutang85 12-03-2011 02:17 PM

Just bought game yesterday for xbox 360

Hey everyone. I just bought this game yesterday and wanted to introduce myself to all of you. I play on the xbox 360, so I"ll check back here everyday to see if anyone is setting up any online matches.

I've been wanting to buy this game for a while now. Tried the demo a few months ago and liked it but it wasn't enough to push me to buy for some reason.

Then again yesterday I made myself try it again and I'm so thankful I did that.

I'm only about 5 missions in on the campaign, think I just beat all the first set of british missions.

I do however have a few questions. I will make a seperate post for that in a minute though as this is only for intros.

Looking forward to hopefully getting a few online matches in sometime in 2011 lol...

bobbysocks 12-04-2011 04:34 PM

welcome wutang85,

i see you got the answer to a your questions in the other thread. as for games...you are best adding xboxers from this thread. they are willing to invite you into their games and help you out. that is the best way...see who is on and your list will grow with each game. most of the games you will find are in real and then some sim. what time zone are you in and what time(s) of day do you play? i am EST and am usually on after 11 sundays through weds. GT Bobbysockser....good luck

Wutang85 12-04-2011 07:28 PM

Est. random times throughout the day but mainly anytime after 8pm on any night really.

Yea I"ll add a few GT from here and see if anyone is on later on tonight. but yea anyone can add me as I'll be able to play pretty much any day after 8pm.

old Red Baron 2D and 3D player, CFS2 and 3, IL2, Over Flanders Field, all on PC and always shot down on line by the pros but it was fun exspecially when knowing you are going against others across the globe. Here is my PS3 name Y-Knee-Dad for the friend setup. 54 yrs. young.

Wutang85 = GT ..EST ( East time zone ). I'll be on in a bit actually if anybody wants to play.

Found a 2v2 team battle earlier and it was awesome. Only got one kill but I had a blast.

dennisvader 12-11-2011 09:01 PM

Greetings!
I am dennis and i play il2 on the xbox.
I have always wanted to be a pilot in the RAF as my 3rd cousin, FLT. Peter clayton was one of the most highly decorated fliers in the RAF which has always inspired me to be a pilot. Most of the books on my bookshelves are about flight and i either play realistic ie spits vs hienkles rather than random planes vs random planes.

3000+ hours on FSX
500+ hours on BoP
150 Hours real flying (i have flying lessons)
3 years worth in the air cadets

1st Fighter squadron in my clan. Usually fly spits and the odd hurricane here and there.

Hope to see you in the sky
Dennisvader

jpcamden 12-22-2011 07:10 PM

Hey guys, new guy here. Name's Jason. I'm at work right now but I just bought the game and I wanna play tonight. I have it on the 360. My gamertag is Tyrannical Duck.

So... a little about myself. I'm from South Carolina. I'm 26. I've always been fascinated by the military and planes and anything fast really. I think its crazy what the pilots had to do back then. its just incredibly inspiring. Anyway add me if y'all want to play sometime. I've only played the demo so far but I'm an ace on arcade! haha

bobbysocks 12-23-2011 03:42 AM

welcome jpcamden, think you are going to have to run through the tutorials first. then go through this thread and add some of the xbox players in your region. you will have limits planess until your do the campaigns and single missions. there are threads there to tell you the unlocks and what is needed....also how to adjust the sensitivities for each plane. my gt is Bobbysockser

jpcamden 12-23-2011 11:45 AM

Ill have to add you when I'm home again. I did the necessary tutorials last night then jumped into a game. I only had 3 options for planes so I chose the hurricane and did ok. I won my first game with two kills haha. There was only 3 of us though. But what an adrenaline rush shooting down someone in an obviously better plane.

Hiya Stoney. Most of the pilots have migrated to Gaigin's official forum for Birds Of Steel. Only a small number of BOP pilots remaining now sir. What game console are you using Stoney ?

Hello

Hello fellow pilots, I have just joined the site and thought it right that I introduce myself and say hello. I play IL 2 on Xbox lots but can never find anyone else to play with :(
Just wondering if there were any online clans or groups I could hook up with to practice flying in a squadron as I'm always on my own.
Good to hear from anyone GT: XoV Blitzkrieg.

Hi mate, welcome. As I said previously, nearly all BOP pilots have flown to the BOS skies. I regularly play and a small core group of fellow aviators too however we are PS3 based Sir. I wish you well trying to hook up with some regular Xboxers but fear you might find some lonely skies as BOP was never patched on the Xbox like on PS3. Happy hunting Sir.

Hi Fellow pilots, I am new here..Dont have birds of prey YET...but do have orig IL2, pacific theater, forgotten battles....love em. I like flying all the planes, dont understand some of the aiming devices on the german 109, and others...not like a p47, or brit planes, for some reason they shoot off to the left of the aiming thingy...WHY???? no clue. Guess my fave planes to fly are the p47d, Spitfire, Yak 3, Lav 5, and IL2 mod...what a plane! OH, forgot the tempest...dont know why you cant fly the one like it, forgot name,,,still has that scoop nose....like all gaming in the air...take care, watch you 6

That would be the Typhoon, greybeard19. Here's a pic but you cannot see it properly 'cause all the BOP pilots are sitting on it LOL.

Vfa-87wpr fly navy

Hello All,

I'm looking for a good squadron of pilots to join up with for online play.

Some basics about myself are:I got my Private Pilot License in a Cessna 172r during my senior year of high school. I have always had a passion for aviation and military aviation in particular.

I joined the United States Navy after high school and ended up in a great F/A18A+ squadron, (VFA-87) to be exact. War Party Rocks!!!

I'm pretty much looking for pilots who will show me the basics of survival up there, I'm playing the game on the watered down Arcade setting and I can't wait to finish so, I can try the other two, more demanding levels.

Also a point in the right direction on a good flight sim configuration from anyone would be a great help, I would like to go Flight stick, rudder pedals, and throttle on left? Is this a good idea for realism? Thanks for any help, oh and my favorite war bird is of course the F/A18A+ Single Seat Forever!!!

Hi Sir, what games console are you flying on. Xbox or PS3 ?
Also welcome to the forum. Great to have you aboard Sir. I don't wanna sound like a broken record but for new aviators here, you are a bit late for the party. Not many of us are left now roaming the BOP skies. Most of the original heads have headed for BOS.

XBOX 360 pilot says hello

Hello from the USA. I started playing IL2 BoP just this last winter, and I love it! My son gave me an XBOX360 console as a Christmas gift; I guess he thought I needed some "action" in my life, and I aquired a copy of BoP a couple of months later. I've had a huge interest in warplanes, specifically WW2 aircraft since I was very young, and this game really fills a "wish I could fly one of those" holes for me. I would certainly enjoy flying and fighting with others on occasion online. I've not played online with any game thus far, but would like to check that arena out if others are interested.
My favorite warbirds are the Fw190 series, go figure, eh. But I love flyin' 'em all! I would really like to get the P-47, Ta152 set, as I've unlocked all of the planes on console play thus far.
Anyway, I look forward to gleaning info and input from other BoP fans out there, as that is why I signed up on this forum in the first place.
Fly safe!

Hey Buddy. Welcome to the forum. Sadly you will find it difficult to find online pilots for the XBOX. Hopefully you will make contact with some through the forum. I am on the PS3 so cannot join you in the skies. However I know a lot of very useful info so if you get stuck on missions or need advise on any aspect of the offline and online sections just ask ok mate.

IceH4cker 09-12-2012 07:08 PM

Hey guys. My names IceH4cker. Just bought IL-2 BOP and its awesome. Very new to it haha, but gettin in the practice. However iv learned, after buying the game, that its virtually impossible to get into online games unless your friends with people who have it :(. Sooo...was wondering if anyone on here plays it still on xbox 360?? Im a rookie but would really like the chance to play online and to be shown how its done lol. Thanks.

Phatzo 09-13-2012 08:46 AM

Hello guys, I just bought birds of prey for PC on the discount table at the local games store, anywho, after jumping through all the hoops and setting up my stick and configuring buttons the way I'm used to flying I went on my training flight. I can hear the sound but my screen just shows my desktop. Any hints on what I've done wrong? I'm back to Aces High until I get this sorted.

For someone who's new here you seem remarkably well informed and active (8 posts in about 6 minutes?).

Unfortunately your jpg's aren't showing for me so I have no idea what you are getting at.

Do you mean it will start but you think you don't have the latest patch? It may have downloaded automatically some time when you started it. You can check by Esc from the pilot's face screen to the main menu and checking the version in the bottom right hand corner. It should be 1.11.20362 for the latest patch.

I'll be surprised if it isn't correct as you shouldn't be able to run it without Steam and Steam automatically checks and updates it.

Not new, but "rediscovered"

I am not new to il2, but I have never flown online, I work as a handyman for "affluent" customers, and also have a penchant for old kerosene pressure lanterns ( hence my "call sign"), my current "ride" is the me-109, any flavor, never completed a campaign, somewhere in my computer there must be dozens of aces with my name on their tails....:(
How do you get online?, I tried with the game but somehow can not connect to a "server".

Go to Multiplayer... Client....
Make sure that Internet is selected in the drop down box at the top of the page. You should see a list of servers you can join.
Highlight one and click on Join Server (lower right)

Many servers list their settings on the right hand side of the screen when you highlight them, e.g. Full Realism means all easy options are turned off (except, usually, headshake and Anthropmorphic Control which no-one uses). Try one that suits you.

bobbysocks 12-11-2012 05:14 PM

when it says "cant connect to server" means there are no games currently online. this game isnt played much these days due to the release of Birds of Steel. if you go to that forum you may find guys to hook up with and play. they occasionally will jump back to BoP.

When a server is listed it is online.

"can't connect to server" is another issue.

Tell the guys that are in-game night after night that it isn't played much.

I just watched the Birds of Steel trailer (I never heard of it before). It looks dated, like IL-2 1946 Pacific theatre.

"Pioneering online and multi-player modes for flight sims — ".. pioneering?!

"Enjoy 4 player co-op or go into the new and unique online ware mode to compete against up to 16 aviators across world." - Wow! 16 players!

bobbysocks 12-11-2012 10:24 PM

and tell me klem how many games are you in every night ( on PS3 or Xbox ) that has over 16 players? and how is the lag?? when the game first came out you could get full rooms in every mode but even a year ago you could seldom find a 16 player game. hell finding 2 people who to play sim was next to impossible. i hated those games anyways because they were ripped with horrible lag. you are going to poo-poo BoS and tell me BoP is better? not even a close comparison. in a lot of ways its leaps and bounds over BoP...i have played both, have you? what does BoS have over BoP...???

more planes over 100 different planes and versions

cockpits for all the fighters ( german, japanese, us, raf, and vvs )

better flight models for the most part. the p51 flys better and you have a mk1

you can customize your plane with decals or switch to several different skins you can earn with different sq markings

better graphics...there is no comparison AND a replay option

more maps. all the ones you have PLUS the pacific, the ruhr, kuban, etc

you can program game pad or joystick buttons

you can play a campaign ( like a single player mission you design ) with up to 4 of your buddies flying your wing.

no zombie tail gunners in the bombers..so that noob who hides in a 17 in a team battle now has to take a turret gun to really survive.

bomber have a bombsite view...oh yeah you can torpedo ships or dive bomb.

you can play arcade, real, sim or custom...where you can set limitations on HUD setting.

you can choose your fuel load out at the beginning of the mission...fly as heavy or as light as you dare.

and the list goes on....

its not perfect and does have its quirks and glitches ( but so does BoP ) but to blow it off like you are is assinine. it is the best console flight sim. if it did not satisfy the players appetite for good sim they would have flocked back. but the only ones who complained were the kill hogs who got 15 , 20 kills a game. if you can down 5planes in a match in this game you are doing good.

the majority of the posters on this forum moved to that game. most of them played BoP from day 1 and religiously from then on. in those days this room was full of people..new threads...tournaments....races...not now that i can see. I guess the guys you play with dont post .. because this place is a ghost town.

this game doesnt have a dedicated server...the host's is the server. when there no one hosting you will get a "server" error not a "no game is available" message. you cant connect to what is not there. i have played the game for almost 2 years i have seen both "server unavailable" or "cant connect to server" happen over and over again. if someone they know for sure is online and in the game and he cannot connect...that is a different issue..which can be fixed sometimes with a simple reboot of the game system.

i suggest you DL the demo if it is still available and try it out for yourself. there are things i do miss about BoP....but not enough of them to come back except for the rare occasion.

klem 12-11-2012 10:51 PM

bobbysox I owe you an apology. For some reason I seemed to land in the wrong forum/thread, I don't know how. I was talking about IL-2 Cliffs of Dover.

I don't play BoSteel or BoP but as I'm here I'd like to answer your questions about on-line play in case it interests you and explain why BoS/BoP don't interest me. I believe they may be console games? Perhaps that's why they have lesser graphics and on-line limitations.

I said that a multiplayer that only supports 16 players is of absolutely no interest to me or I suspect anyone who wants to get involved in serious on-line campaigns.

I have played in PC multiplayer games for over 16 years, sometiimes involving over 400 players. I don't suffer lag because I have a reasonable PC and Broadband and am only limited in that respect by the server capability. If you want to fly serious PC multiplayer thats what you need and I guess the same goes for console games although I don't know who hosts them. If its one of the player's consoles then I understand why it isn't very capable.

If I played BoS or BoP, off-line play wouldn't interest me because it is too sterile and I prefer the challenge of intelligent opponents (as opposed to Artificial Intelligence).

Anyway I though I'd apologise and give you a peep at what's possible in the world of on-line play.

Have fun.

klem 12-11-2012 10:53 PM

A general apology

God knows how I ended up in this forum. I play IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. So, just ignore my posts.

Anyone got Valium?

bobbysocks 12-12-2012 12:44 AM

well that answers a lot...i scratched a bald spot in my head. no problems klem. we here in the console world have a watered down version of the good stuff you enjoy and are actually glad we get that much. the majority of the best stuff is designed for PC and we hate you for that...lol. the last combat flight game i played was chuck yeager's air combat back in the 90s. i didnt really wasnt a big gamer and my computer was way out of date. i got back into gaming via console when a decent pirate game came out. then i saw BoP.... yeah. it has whetted my appetite for something better but again my computer isnt really up to snuff. i ended up with a MAC and dont want to go through all that is needed to play PC sim games. i plan to get a new PC this year so perhaps i will see you in the skies. until then i get to mess around with these glitchy "near sims".... they aint much but shes the best we got.

good luck with the new IL2...stalingrad game.

Robotic Pope 12-12-2012 01:22 AM

lol I knew something wasn't right.

Just want to make it clear that Bobby means a game with Pirates, jolly rodger, Arrrr me hearty and all that, not a pirated game.

Klem, I fly Il-2 1946 mostly offline with full realism, for complex missions and such, nothing comes close on consoles. But I also played Birds of Prey and now Birds of Steel, and as far as online multiplayer dogfighting goes they are hardcore when played at the highest difficulty, there are some incredible pilots out there who would have no problem flying full switch on a PC il-2 server if they had the chance, and there are others that have bought PCs and become top pilots on the ATAG server.

Birds of prey and Birds of Steel (even more so) are really WWII Dogfight sims whereas Il-2 CloD is a WWII Flight sim.
