Hi Oleg,
Will ground damage caused by bomb's fade away over time, as is the case now in IL-2? |
a little something about damage modelling.
Both the Spitfire and Hurricane used a coolant called Glycol. Will a leak in the glycol tank cause you to have to set down your aircraft with a nonfunctioning engine? or to clear it up, next to fuel leaks will we also get oil and coolant leaks? and secondly; will a single bullet to the radiator knock out a Spitfire? |
ya the spit would drain glycol if it got hit there. It'd be a cool feature!

.............
I can appreciate everyones graphical/realism enhancements, but what I wanna know is at what cost are all these going to be implimented.
The AI in IL2 is old and sometimes quite frustrating in regards to realism. It cheats and isn't necesarily strapped with the same laws of physics as my plane is. I'd much rather have a GREAT AI 'routine' written at the expence of glycol covered windshields, crews running around topping off your petrol, independant wheel suspension etc etc. So............ What difference in OFFLINE AI behaviour can be expected in BoB? Will the LONG STANDING complaints in AI behaviour be corrected in BoB? Will AI rely on engine management cheats.... non existant energy bleeding.... et al? Or will therer finally be a more accurate AI model/routine? I know it sounds like I'm whining. Don't meant to come off that way, but candy wrapper improvements like some ask for make no nevermind to me if the AI isn't drastically improved. Thank you. |
As far as I know...everything will be improved including AI.

Hi Oleg,
I got a question for you.....will vehicle's have working headlights, if conditions are edited to night time hours?...working running lights on ships/trains? :) |

I´m itching to play SOW:BOB now!! :D
I have a question: Will there be any (simple) scripting available in the mission builder? Like "Triggers and events" or something like that? Thanks for your answers so far!!! And all who asked good questions!!! Have enjoyed them very much! :) |

Hey Oleg,
thanks for all your answers, I have a question: Will bailing out be in first person perspective (seeing the whole bailout sequence through the eyes of the pilot) instead of the camera moving away and showing the pilot bail out? |

  are you asking this because of European airwar? |
Questions for Oleg about bullets' behavior.
1. Will bullets flight paths be calculated more accurately than in Il2? 2. Will bullets be modeled for longer distances than Il2? (Hispano Mk1 is a good example) 3. Will bullets flight paths be modeled after the tracer burns out? 4. Will the Sow:BoB code allow for German Day (Leuchspur) and Night (Glimspur) tracers and also self destruct (Zerleger) ammunition? 5. Will bullet ricochets occur on more objects than just armor? Bullets can ricochet off anything, even water if the angle is low enough. 6. Have you started work on the SoW:BoB tracers/bullets yet? If so, do they look much better than Il2? I am a guns and bullets guy. I am very interested in hearing about this. What can I say? |

Why don't any of the AI ever go into a spin. It happens a lot to me and alot of people online too. And the AI are just *perfect* they never make mistakes. They act like they've flown that same plane they're flying for 15 years, not 4 years or something like that. Same with taking off and landing.
|
Yet another question for Oleg.
Currently Il2 supports up to four (4) controllers. I have a CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle Franken Potato (which is a Pro Throttle with Throttle Quadrant switches and rotaries mounted on it which counts for two (2) controllers) and CH Pro Pedals, for a total of 4 controllers. Will Sow:BoB allow for more than a 4 controller setup? I would also like to use the CH Multi Function Panel which I cannot use at this time with Il2 as I am already at my 4 controller maximum. |
Will there be random breakdowns (as an option) ?
Will a bomb dropped near a ship damage him ? Will it be possible to have the extern views in full real after having returned to base or being killed ? Will we be forced to choose our side before going to plane menu during online play ? Will we be able to play the operationnal control ? Will it be possible to save the map of a mission, on order to use it in the next one (even in user-made static campaigns ?), for exemple save all the destroyed bridges of the map ? Wil we be able to use triggers in the editor ? Will it be possible to have water at different altitudes (lakes) Do you think it will be possible in the future to have grumman planes, for example ? Will flags move in the wind, and air-shafts near the runways ? Will there be train tunnels ? Will governs of other players move online ? |
Could we have a basic traing as a Bomber or fighter pilot. To learn the basics and some advanced tips, tricks, musts, things to look out for, how to's, you know to get us of on the right track. When I started IL-2 I was terribly lost and if not for the pacific-fighters support I would've been terribly lost. So please make a basic traing set of missions, maybe tell us the weak spots of our common opponents.

Straffing - blowing up ships
I hope that BOB:SOW will enable some ships to blow up or sink by straffing. Particularly munitions ships or tankers. If not large ships, then perhaps motor torpedo boats, coastal guardships etc.
|
Oleg: Could you give us an estimated time of release for SoW:BoB.

Oleg will there be rainbows modeled in BoB?

I can never think of sensible and original questions to ask; but I thought I’d chip in with this;
I wondered if SoW or future iterations of SoW will be able to take advantage of Head Mounted Display technology like Emagine’s Z800 reviewed here at SimHq: http://www.simhq.com/_technology2/technology_080a.html Or at least it’s successors. Considering SoW will presumably be projected to have a lifetime similar to Il2’s, of several years, it’s something I’d love to see and try in a couple of years time, when the HMD tech is more matured. |
A small question to Oleg...
Hello Oleg!
Did you by any chance read the small document I try to send to you in August (to your personal MG address, via Luthier/RRG and on paper at MAKS 1C/booth)?...just curiosity...I believe that some of my statements in this paper were not completely devoid of interest, especially as far as Luftwaffe airfields in France during BoB were concerned... Thanks for your time and dedication, JVM |
Hi Oleg.
You have stated that the map in Bob will be of great detail, my question then is this...........will some long road's found in the country side, have gentle long curves as in real life?.....or will the roads be similar to those found in IL-2....more of a straight run with quick turns |
I think it is on the 1946 Bonus DVD that I've seen some pictures of the railroads and they look excellent. The roads will be the same, I'm sure.
|

Oleg will clear this up for us |
Hey JVM (two or three posts up) can you link to the BOB document ? I would be interested.

another DM thingy; in order to get the MG FF 20mm into the wings of the E3 (correct if me if I'm wrong here) the engineers took some rather drastic measures. Amongst others they reduced the amount of powder in the shells and also did some work on the fuses. This made the 20mm a bit of a troublespot and said errors weren't corrected until after the battle.
Will such effect/result be visible in Storm of War. |
Will machine - gun vibrations and "shaking" be present also when firing from the various gunnery positions in multicrew planes?
If so, other than affecting the gun station effectively firing, will these vibrations propagate to the entire plane and be sensible even from the cockpit? |
Will the Do17 and other non-flyable planes become flyable in future addons/updates after the release of SoW:BoB?
|

Avimimus - you know that for a fact? What is your source of information?
|
After recent events I wouldn't be too sure about that. He may still say so, but given the dedication he has regarding his games, it is likely that he'll only release such tools if he is 150% sure that they can't be abused to break into the game code and effect the elements he wants to keep save.

Why don't you all read what Oleg is posting :) (dono't bi pissed guys, a little joke ;))? He stated that one will be able to make his own plane but that person will be able to fly it off-line. And as far as i'm concerned, this is GREAT thing. And if the planes will be excellent moddeled and all, that plane an be send to Oleg's team to evaluate for enclusion to game and on-line play. Superb, me thinks!
One question that i wanted to ask Oleg: Will game record aircraft damage and repair history (if not repaired or checked, rate of failure for that aircraft would be grater etc...)? |
What are the chances of being able to swap aircraft midflight?
This is a great option for offline play. I remember an old game "1942 The Pacific Air War" which allowed this. On typical missions where you spend a long time on transit to the target you could enjoy yourself flying different positions and different planes in the attack formation. Once over target, perhaps a torpedo attack on a warship, you could join each attack as it ran in, and whats more if you got shot down you could still finish the mission in a different seat. Hey! sometimes we just fly for fun. |
just wondering out loud if there will be a demo?
|
......................
Kind of thought we'd have more than one set of pictures posted by Oleg during the last month in Oleg's News Room. I'm dissappointed. :(
One month and only 6 pictures? ANYTHING coming down the pike? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: |

This was one of my initial requests for BOB, and it would be great to have as an option. I know that many do not like this idea, and therefore, to have it as an option would be great. I'm tired of flying an hour long flight, just approaching my target, and then being sniped by some random AAA gunner from 5 miles, with his first shot. For this reason, it would be nice to be able to change to another plane, maybe my wingman, and still have a chance at getting to my target. Please, Oleg, make it so! :D |

Posted by Oleg the grey as he appeared from the abyss recently:
"Here we begin to post development news of BoB.... some time, but not so rare... I hope once per 2-3 weeks or so..." That's 4+ weeks ago. 2 weeks is obviously no longer THE joke. It's 2-3 weeks nowadays... Be sure. Ohh no cries the fb:s. How dare you insinuate that Oleg is late? Oleg is never late, nor is he early, he posts precisely when he means to! It's time to go white Oleg... |
Oleg's updates aren't updates anyway. Showing still pictures and saying they look MUCH better in the game engine isn't much of an update (IMO.) Sounds like we can lump it until they have a beta, and who knows when that will be.

.In theory it does, yes, but a reply of such positive nature automatically transforms into a promise for the future.
If he said: It is highly unlikely instead of I hope it would have been different. Both imply uncertainty, but the first with a negative undertone and the second is way too positive. Plus, we have entered the fifth week of the "2-3 weeks", which I'd say is enough to have surpassed the stages of courtesy. It's sad, yet the simple truth: Don't refuse the dog his bone or he'll take your leg. Just a matter of time till the free radicals of our community will join forces and start to get nasty. |

Zorin....most people here are mature enough to know that...
A. "Hope to" does not translate to a Promise. B. that there are many issues over the years that have contributed to BOB's delay and we would look rather stupid...jumping up and down screaming and getting nasty. C. We are owned nothing. D. Vailed threats won't make updates happen sooner. |

He owes us nothing. If he makes a decent product we will buy it. If he doesn't we won't. If the SOW series is anything like the IL-2 series in attention to detail it will be the next benchmark in combat flight sims. If you feel slighted by the lack of info lately, don't buy it...your loss.
If anything we owe him for providing years of entertainment for a few bucks. He will continue to make money off of us if his product is good. Everyone will forget the wait, and start a concentrated winge on their aircraft of choice being porked. |
Hi All,
This is my first post, but after reading page after page of comments; I thought I might throw in my two cents worth. Like all of you I'm anxiously awaiting SOW; But, I believe that we have become our own worst enimies and it is us not the development team that are driving all the delays. We sit here and analyze/critique and demand only the best, brightest and as close to perfection as we can get. With that much pressure I would hate to be on the development team trying to satisfy us. For no matter how awesome SOW shall be when finally released, within days there will be posts on this very website asking for fixes/patches for everything from pilots faces to the color of roofs on houses (not to mention the important stuff like FM and BD) At anyrate I agree that we are owed nothing and based on the experiences of IL2 the new best, and brightest will well be worth the wait. |

And people wonder why there is a lack of updates. He hopes to show you his little finger, but you demand he promised his whole arm. |

He doesn't have time to coddle to the foot stompers. He will sell many copies sight unseen based on passed performance. Others will wait for trusted reviews. In the end it depends on the product. Even you will buy it if its a good product, no matter how put out your feelings are. |
My comments are based on my study of sociology and two years I spent within the world of IL2. Everything I said wasn't meant to represent my feelings towards Oleg, I'm rather uninterested in the whole SoW thing by now, yet i felt the need to show you what is obvious to me.
It may displease you to see people act like I discribed, but it is exactly what will happen if no counter procedures are initiated. @Chivas: Personal question: Who do you think you are to have the imprudence to call a grown-up immature just because he shares his knowledge about a subject he studied for years with you? |
because hes jealous in the way he can not have feelings of obsession for a game. lol :D 8)
|
It gets me how some here speak for Oleg. "He doesn't owe you the time of day"??? If I where Oleg and didn't feel that way, I'd be pissed! Nearly all here are customers of Oleg, and I may be wrong, but I bet he at least appreciates that. I don't think we've really seen anything of SoW yet (at least in the new engine). Many are very curious and want to see and know more. All this means for Oleg is more sales. If no one was asking to see updates or news, I think that would make Oleg rather nervous. I am beginning to think the full story behind the lack of news is nearly as interesting as SoW itself.
|
Maybe Zorin, but it cant be repeated enough times, that online folks are only a part of all the sales, online folks that post are a much smaller part of the above, and those online folks that post and feel like not buying the game because they feel offended by the lack of communication...well..lets just say they are far from being such a huge number to affect anything at all. Considering it from financial side only, of course.
Probably Id feel the same way though, with all this lack of info, even if it has a reason for sure. But I still think it doesnt affect sales in a recogniseable amount :) |

Is it possible to choose the ordnance for each pylon individually (Bombs, droptank) to get all possible combinations or or will there be predefined set of loadouts as in Il-2? If the system stays the same, will it be possible for users to create their own new loadouts?
Will individual fuel tanks in the planes be modelled and will it be possible to select them manually? |

It seems likely that these will be used in the damage models so that hits in specific locations will have the appropriate effects. I dont recall whether its been stated that fuel tanks would be individually selectable though. If they were then it would be good to model the variation in centre of gravity as a result of fuel usage. This would give more motivation to manage fuel correctly. |
Will we be able to make screenshots like this photo? It's river Thames and London.

Ah, beautiful Leigh on Sea.

Oleg, I have good question for you :D .......Will a pilot gain more airtime if he manage his engine well, and flying at lower RPM????...( I'm thinking the 109 here, and it's limited fuel)
|
Quote:
Regards, Insuber |
? not sure.....I seem to use the same amount time wise, no matter the throttle setting
|
Question for Oleg:
Will we see a decent amount of ships of the RN and Kriegsmarine in BoB? |
Quote:
Yep, you are correct....I did a few test, really can gain alot of airtime 8) |
Oleg love the game.
Will the ability to make runway and taxi way for us mission builders be included in BoB. |
By the tittle I thought it ment something about the engine for BoB
|
Quote:
OK, so I tested further and the fuel use is only tied to throttle possition. Did a flight rigged very dirty, radiator open, gear down, flaps down, rudder slipball off-center, high throttle possition... there was no difference in fuel comsumtion flying dirty, over flying clean....... So my question to Oleg still stand's, if SOW will have this same model in a game that will be full of fuel concerns, or are you planning some new model of fuel use? |
Slipball
Quote:
If you think about it- fuel use would be tied to throttle position as the throttle controls the amount of fuel into the engine :D You may gain more endurance i.e time in the air at low RPM & throttle but would you get more range. We would need to know the long range cruise speeds and min drag (clean)speeds for each type Mobes |
Yes distance traveled clean/dirty, fighting a head wind, having a tail wind is my point. Just curious if SOW will be different in this regard
|
Well, word has it that you will be able to land, get out and retrieve a special blessing from an Orthodox monk in the far north of England. With this blessing you will be able to control the weather to boost your range or even wreck entire German squadrons...

Oleg, how about a status update on the progress of 4.09. Can you tell us exactly what will be included and any changes that will be implemented? Thanks.
|
Oleg,
Will there ever be a way to turn air padlock off and leave ground target padlock on or vice versa? I have much fun flying with out air padlock, but then it makes it too tough to see anything on the ground.... |
Mr. Maddox
Could you state your feeling on the hack mod issue. i and others would like to know your thought's on this and what it means for the future |
I agree with Abbeville-Boy- there has been a lot of discussion, sometimes high emotion on the subject from both sides. I think it might be helpful to know the game creator's feelings about that situation.
