Well this actually makes me very happy and i'll tell you why.

By doing this 1c will pull in ALOT of money IL2 is known Marketed Name and will sell just cuz of the name and alos im sure it will be a great game on consoles and sell for that aspect aswell. I bet it will be very much Arcade tho since consoles dosn't benefit from 100 buttons for confiugrating everything and simulations belong to PC.

But it's still a good move now they'll pull in lots of money.. thats also great since BoB will for sure be released :D.

The worst that could happen would be if BoB got announced for consoles... then it would not be a simulation anymore.

Honestly if it looks like BoB, sounds like BoB then in all likely hood it is BoB and the SOW engine just for console...
Question is why keep it a secret?
It is sort of insulting.
I have no issue with consoles flying flight sims, I do however have an issue with a site that shows so little interest in its supporters to have such big news released elsewhere...

At least an explanation from Oleg would be nice, something along the lines of "This is not SoW engine, is different engine. SoW engine looks even better, looks like cinema."

I have no doubt this game is based on the BOB engine. It looks exactly like some early BOB SOW screenshots. If the PC version is even better....I have no doubt it will be cinematic.

I also think it's a WIN....WIN situation, new money for a old genre, plus many of those console players will eventually graduate to the PC.meaning more ca$h flow......what a beautifull thing!

Elements of BoB (not engine but 3d models and terrain) + reduction of realism & new control philosophy = Console Cash Cow = Influx of Console Noobs to the real sim
= Oleg's survival

Oleg could probably make an RTS / commander version of the sim as well. There are plenty of ways to bring in funds using the basic Il-2 or SoW engines

This is the most interesting update in a way about SoWBob since a long time !

My theory: What we see there IS BoB. In a simplified arcade version for console. What we witness here is a deal to sell parts of BoB for console and to bring fresh money for the final developpment of BoB for PC....the REAL BoB.

Very very exciting !

I ask again: 1C guys I think we deserve an explanation about this !

+1 - I agree with your conclusion.

IGN has some more meat:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/879/879845p1.html

Interesting part (said by Anatoly Subbotin, 1C's PR manager according to IGN):

"Birds of Prey will use the flight models that were developed for the PC game, but almost everything else was rewritten from scratch from the consoles. Visually, this is a gorgeous game; aircraft are rendered in sharp detail, but even more impressive were the fully 3D landscapes below. There are thousands and thousands of 3D trees, roads, villages, landmarks, cities, rivers, and more. Then there's a new damage modeling system where your plane can get chewed up pretty badly, to the point that it has gaping holes in the wings and fuselage, and that will affect your aircraft's handling on the more realistic difficulty levels."

If they have not used code from SoW:BoB after hearing that - I'd be amazed... But I have been before ;) Why do a detailed damage model for an arcade game? Pearls before swine :)
