But this SOW release is turning into a bit of a sad joke..we've been waiting now for more than 5 bloody years already!! Oh..it'll be released in Jan 2006, then sept 2006, then march 2007, then Dec2007..then on ..and on, and on...yawn..the REAL war didn't last this long.... can I be so bold as to suggest, why not do as was done with the IL2 series, release the darn thing, and then fix the gliches and bugs as we go with patches and updates. that would also be a much better, faster way to get glitches discovered and feedback ...

Il-2 was released fairly bug free. The updates were mostly that updates, not bug fixes.
I've been waiting for SOW since its first announcement in 2003/4. Finally we are in the bug fixing, optimization faze of SOW. Except maybe for the completion of the German Campaign.

This could take months depending on the severity of the bugs and optimizations. Take note how long its taking to debug the 4.10 patch, although they aren't working full time.

We do have a special relationship with Oleg because he IS the only one making a sim like this. We, well I at least, want it badly and we have to put up with the fact that it is taking a long time. If anyone else had brought out a comparable sim in the meantime we would probably all be playing it and saying "SoW delayed? So what?" Its a two way street.

My personal bottom line is I am getting fed up waiting for it and I'm not the only one. But we have no choice except to wait.

I think for me its the lack of updates thats most annoying, yeah i know we get some pictures and some video if we are lucky every week, but in truth of late they have been fairly dull. What updates i would like to see is a monthly report from Oleg letting us know where the project is at, maybe an estimated release date or news of a website or some news on what problems they are having, obviously some video footage of 100+ aircraft being attacked would be good but this may well be a long way off. Its Christmas 2010, and we still havent seen the game running properly with mulitiple aircraft, we have no dedicated website and no system specs, hopefully we will see a release next year but it does seem we are still a long way off. Oh and Zapatista, get those shorts of yours in the oven buddy.:grin:

Good for you, still doesn't prove that the OP is right in his comment and he seems to agree by the fact that he edited it to a far better turn of phrase.

Really?

Oleg is the only large budget games developer I have ever come across who
has given dev updates every week for such a long time. Also for such a long
period before release. Remember those pre-pre alpha shots?

With other developers you get a blog post from someone in the PR
department every few months and a promo video without any real content a
few weeks before release.

I think you have been spoilt!

We all know that the game:
a) will be released when it is finished, and
b) will be finished when it is finished.

So, the game definitively is'nt finished yet.

Even so, Oleg has time and recourses to spend on minor details like the color of the exhaust flames, a detail that is allmost never visible, and 99.98% of the time has absolutely no impact on how the game is experienced.

This tells me that
a) the game must be very close to finished, or else Oleg would have used his resources on more important problems
b) the game is probably in a testing phase where most of his resources are spent on trial and bugfixing.

How long such a task as ironing out the last bugs of a such a complex game can take is very hard to predict. Just think of 4.10. No wonder Oleg wont give us any releasedate.

But the updates could be more interesting, though..

Gosh, I'm so tired of divisive exchange,
And I've got one or two things to say about change.
Like the change we must change and the change we hold dear,
I really like change. Have I made myself clear?

To me the game looks about five to eight months away from release. Based on what we've seen in the updates. Single player and online optimisation haven't even been mentioned yet and I would doubt that they are anywhere near being ready with that.
