Fair enough. Sorry if I came on to strong for you, though I really don't think it was imflamatory. I'll pull the reins in and put the horse back in the barn to avoid further consternation. ;)

EDIT: There HAS been things to talk about which is why I even responded. That was the vein I was looking for. Some are so disheartened and frustrated that they can't or won't see a glimmer of hope. To me that's what the updates for the new add on bring. 1C still has to deliver. The taxi ride isn't free anymore, but that doesn't mean I'm going to kick them out of the car.

Luthier...Hows the patch testing?

Lead programmer...So far so good, frame rates are increasing nicely.

BlackSix...any news for the community?

Luthier...tell them the patch should be coming soon.

Lead programmer...We just found some serious bugs.

Quite possible, so many possiblilities, but its easy to suggest a negative one if it suits their agenda.

I'm fairly sure Loft who wrote the update lives in Russia. He could easily have posted this from home or Jason could have posted it from the States. It doesn't matter the original poster was just throwing the COD developers under the bus for having a holiday, by suggesting the ROF developers are working hard thru the holidays posting much needed information to all their supports.

Well I am contrasting two different Moscow based development teams Chivas, thats true. Here we are very nearly a year since release of CLoD and it's still in dire straits and I'm sure everyone is working hard to fix it and yet....
it's a long holiday weekend and the devs don't communicate with us here directly because of er, language difficulties was it?
I wonder if it's a long holiday weekend in southern Cal. where Luthier lives? I wonder how he gets round the language barrier there? Perhaps he has an interpreter!:-)

14./JG5_Roman 03-10-2012 02:52 AM

I have a very strong feeling that we wont see the new graphics engine for COD. The new engine and "patch" would be a GREAT selling point to get Battle Of Moscow off the ground.. ;)

skarden 03-10-2012 03:26 AM

sheesh they miss a weekly update and suddenly the sky is falling :l

I believe Luthier moved to Russia long before he took over the new IL-2 project. Although its possible he still has his place in southern Cal. Oleg, Luthier, BlackSix has been communicating with us for many years before ROF was even thought of. I doubt things have changed much since the last update, other than the developers testing another version of the patch and will continue to test versions until its done. Are we that needy that we have to told the same thing every week.

As far as i can tell the ROF development team haven't got much of a choice but to work 365 days a year or they will kick the bucket. So implying that they "care" more for their supporters than the CoD team is stretching it a bit/much. (Not saying u said that but couldn't be bothered finding the OP)

To be fair Blackdog, there really hasn't been a whole lot of info to discuss in regards to updates. A vague paragraph with some pics from a different sim than COD.

Example: "You will see the beta graphics patch very shortly. I know you’ve been waiting for it forever. We’re working on it non-stop, and what can I say, it can only be ready when it’s ready. We’re not working on an externally set schedule, so we can sit down and do things right rather than rushing them out to meet a deadline.
I want to apologize to everybody for it taking so long. But I’d rather apologize for this than for releasing things quickly and for it to be of inferior quality."

How can we really have an in depth and meaningful discussion on that info?

Well, each thread runs its course sooner or later. What you say is not wrong, it just means we go with whatever the thread provides and if its exhausted we wait for the next one.

It's sort of like the bug report and request threads: they run for a long time but they don't generate a few dozen responses every day.

The whole idea behind the thing is that we post when we have something relevant to the topic to add, not just for the sake of it, because that's what usually tends to degenerate into circular arguments, tiresome repetition of the same topics and flame wars between detractors and supporters of certain aspects of the sim.

And that's what really makes the thread something that it wasn't meant to be, a sort of "playground" for all of us to talk about everything except the update when we are bored. Then, another guy comes along and tries to find the relevant information, whether it's a lot or just a few snippets, and simply can't because he has to sift through 30 pages of completely unrelated discussions, usually between the same dozen people who are arguing among themselves on each week and all through the week.

If the information is not enough or its potential exhausted, we don't have to forcefully keep a thread going by adding unrelated arguments and our own personal speculation on top of it. ;)

These threads should be somewhat "clinical" in nature: a report of dev updates and a Q&A process. There is a useful array of sub-forums that are suitable to hold general discussion threads, as well as PM messages to facilitate communication between members who want to talk among themselves.

I see the thread still goes the way it used to go before and i'm having to go light on it because frankly, nobody cooperates and if i start applying the rules almost everyone will be banned due to infraction points.

I think you will agree that it's a quite sad reflection on our discussion capabilities as a community, when we are limited to choosing between bending the rules or "herding" the posters.

It would be much easier and more adult-like if everyone could simply be a gentleman and we just followed some sane, posting etiquette.

I think that you take your position here as a moderator far to seriously...always sweeping and cleaning, and handing out points. Chill :)

I stick to the developers word, that CloD will get the graphics patch independently. The BOM selling points are already numerous, without the need of penalizing the existing customer base.

I understand that it's frustrating for him to see a whole uninteresting and irrelevant discussion about RoF unfolding just after his post asking to keep on topic. Solidarity to Blackdog, herding this cattle is not difficult, it's useless ... :-)

Yep, quite right, I put my hands up. I think the mods here do a good but thankless task and I apologise for the diversion. It's just....you know....we don't get an update 'cause it's a holiday weekend-fair enough-but as I point out that dosen't seem to prevent "another" Russian developer putting out quite a detailed update over the same holiday weekend.

We do seem to be treated as cattle here by the dev's though and that includes the mods too I'm afraid.

Edit; MOOOO!!!!

csThor 03-10-2012 03:30 PM

Pardon my french, arthur, but isn't it Jason who does the updates? And if my memory doesn't fail it was not until he got involved with RoF that any kind of information policy worth the term came into being. Before neoqb's "information" consisted of cryptic half-statements that roused more questions than it gave answers, evasive answers (if any came at all) and a load of pre-scripted PR blabla ... Familiar?

If you talk about RoF's updates you talk about the heart and blood Jason puts into it. Without him RoF would not be where it is now.

you are right, jason updates are SO good, and enjoyable to read, that i read all off them even tough i dont play ROF.

Robert 03-10-2012 05:20 PM

Jason's always been very good with customer relations. When he worked at GoGamer he was consistantly on the forums trying to solve issues with people who bought from them.

Be that as it may. I'm looking forward to the A4, and think it will be interesting to see where online gaming takes IL2....... or is that where IL2 takes online gaming. As I've said before, further development of IL2-CoD and it's sequels is a vote of confidence to the longevity of this sim. It's always darkest before the morning, and it looks pretty dark now as far as workability of this game is concerned, but it's gonna get fleshed out. I venture within six months this time of troubles will be past and we'll all (hopefully) be comparing RoF and IL2 quite favorably.

Couldn't agree more. Further animosity only sends this forum into a further downward spiral. History shows that when Big-Brother type administrations are in place, it is not a nice place to live in for anyone.

Libertarian paternalism is the way forward. And so as not to stray from the current topic, that is exactly what the RoF team are exercising over their product (and no doubt the 1C team will when they can safely pull their fingers out).

Understandable, since nothing is really happening...No real news...and talk of an add-on...Really? Add-on to what?

There is no talk of the great missions we are flying...no talk of the blast we had dogfighting... so on and so forth......Would that not be something to behold....

Might be worthwhile to flush the entire forum, get rid of the junk and make everyone re-register.... with the greatness of the new upcoming patch...all the work on work arounds and figuring it all out for ourselves won't really matter anymore.....Wow could I really get banned for making a statement?..Curious to see if such a post is removed....So does getting banned really matter... nah... not really

Ho Hum

I was pretty hot about this game...playing it, making some good missions and enjoying learning the triggers etc.

After hearing the updates coming... its coming...yup...its coming... for so long. i havent played it in over a month and probably wont untill something changes.

I played the original il2 from start to 4.08 religously. Wish i still had it on my hard drive.

Wheres the war ships? How about a level bomber that works? A fighter with rockets? If they put guns on the biplanes what a sim this could be. Chasing trains and shooting up the great scenery at 50 mph in those biplanes would have been awesome.

It almost seems theve takin out or sabataged every thing i loved about the original il2.

Realizing that everyone wants the answer to when the patch will come out it's understandable that pics from the sequel are only making everyone more frustrated about it but..we can't blame them for not giving us any info now because they only get their hand bitten when they come in here. So I guess we wait in silence now and wow, it's deafening.

Yes..they get their hand bitten when they come in here with purposely vague to no info, and flaunt their next product they want us to purchase. It's all about tact. I don't get how they don't understand the lack of excitement about their next product, when the first one is so far away from being what was advertised and or talked up by them for years on the forums.
