It's free at UBI if you want the slow shipping option, if they ship early so it arrives on day of release that's not a problem.

Hey man, regardless of the debate (other thread) - you have to accept that the DRM scheme used was a major reason why Silent Hunter V failed (and why subsims are dead for the moment). UBIsoft effectively killed of a genre (for a few years).

Hi there, this is awesome news :)

PS has some ones made a typo on the official cliffs of dover web site . The quote by Winston Churchill "Never in the field of human conflict
was so much owed by so many to few" shouldn't it be "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" or is it "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" ?

No, debris and it's shadow from the explosion.

Blackdog_kt 01-18-2011 10:47 PM

For the people asking about the price, if you click on the pre-order button on the title's new webpage it takes you to Ubi's web-store but it's not listed in the slideshow of pictures.

No worries, just go to the top right of the page/menus, type cliffs of dover in the "search ubishop" textbox (don't click on the "browse games" button as it's not listed there yet) and voila!

Currently, the listed price is 49.99 Euros for a download version. I guess this is not the collectors edition. I'd expect a physical boxed copy to be around 50-55 Euros and the collectors higher than that.
In one of the linked pages from last week's leaked information, a Swiss online shop had the collector's edition priced around 85 Euros (at least that's what google came up with after i converted 110 Swiss Franks to Euros).

Hope that helps.

el0375 01-18-2011 11:37 PM

well done 1C! 4 years of waiting ...

where to preorder teh collectors for italy as UBi sents me to It ubishop with only download version, where i seek for a pc-cd version.
if the game goes liek il2 did i will be more tahn happy, im in teh otehr hand concerned about small dlc which in my opinion i do not liek them and not buy.
in Il2 for example i bought original , forgotten battles, ace expansion pack and tehn il 1946..just my personal opinion.

question: if suppose that the game costs 50 euros, how much you think will go to 1c? answer by experience from other games.( i suppose that will be something 50 50 but ubi as shipper will have less profit and that might explain the low hype made by it all over the internet but actually i don't know)

It seems that the current "mood" of the forum, is to find the flaws (kind of a "Where's Waldo" game) in the upcoming release. Apparently, people feel that Oleg needs help "finding & fixing all the mistakes". EXAMPLE: the unattractive box art, & the lack of a Messerschmidt manual...OMG!!! Who wants to play the game without a Messerschmidt booklet?!!?? I think Oleg needs to realize that people are buying the game for the packaging...NOT HIS BEAUTIFUL & BRILLIANT GAME.

Let us continue to explain to Oleg why, "we will buy the game", but most people will not, because of the box...or the name...or the color of the grass...or the lack of a flyable P-51 (Its the worlds best fighter!!!). Lord knows we all know about the "world wide confusion" that followed the "CoD" series. Remember all the people who tried to install "CoD Modern warfare" over "CoD Black Ops". Or how people thought "Call of duty" was a WW2 game...my buddy didn't buy the new "Call of duty" because he was so confused by the title. He just stood in Best Buy mumbling to himself, "Call of duty" means WW2...this game is in the present day. This is confusing...

Eh...you know what, I'm gonna stop here. LOL ;)

My worry is not the DRM stuff, sir, may be I did not explain myself well.

My point is that, a so long awaited by all of us new Flight Simulator, that probably will set up a new level in this market (as IL-2 did), would have deserved a better explained, and more documented and even spectacular release note. They want to sell the product, don't they?

Defender 01-19-2011 12:23 AM

Great news, now to figure out how to pre-order the special edition boxed edition to Canada....north america doesn't seem to be offered as a pre-order option on the ubi website.
Love how flight sim enthousiasts can be the most demanding bloody arrogant audience of the entire video game market. No wonder they've stopped making games for us, we're never satisfied with anything.

Me either. I was dumbfounded when I saw that sailor running his butt off on that freighter. Wait a few days or so and they'll have a box for us to order eh.

Blackdog_kt 01-19-2011 01:43 AM

I can't pre-order the collector's edition from Ubishop either. It automatically takes me to the UK part of the website, but when i run a search for it the only thing that comes up is the download version, the others are not even listed. No boxed, physical copy neither a collector's edition (i live in Greece by the way).

Being in Europe i think i will be able to order a properly boxed collector's edition from the likes of Amazon. It's already listed on the German section of Amazon for example, price for collector's edition is 70 Euros which to be honest, is not bad at all. I hope zavvi.co.uk will carry it, they usually have good prices and they have some familiarity with the IL2 series as they have some of the previous titles listed.

I dislike the fact that most publishers today ship their games without even a manual, only to put it into the collector's edition for a huge mark up, especially considering the think manuals of older releases, but what we are getting with CoD on top of the manual i think is pretty good and totally justifying an extra 20 Euros on top of the base package. I just think that some kind of manual should be supplied with the base version as well, even if it's a small booklet instead of one with ring binders.

However, and especially since the base version doesn't mention any kind of printed material at all, i honestly think the collector's edition is the way to go, it's really good value.
It might even be possible to buy a few extra copies to sell on ebay a few months down the line, too bad i can't spare an extra 200 Euros or so for a few extra boxes :-P

Ploughman 01-19-2011 02:11 AM

Well sh*t the bed I never thought I'd live to see the day. I was 35 when Storm of War was first announced and while I never thought it would happen to me I thought maybe my son would have at least a fool's chance of one day stepping into the bright sunlight uplands of a 2nd generation Oleg Maddox flight simulator. But here I am, barely 42 and with a son still in the tubes and here it is. Even the wife, who frankly couldn't give a flying **** gave an cry of joy to hear it was actually finally going to happen.

Tears of joy.

And.

Oleg, for the first time in way too long, I get to give you some more money. Carry on sir.

To me "renegade" means to "go against or to oppose the status quo".

I am thinking that at 1940 the United States was not in the war yet and offically neutral so the american eagle squadron pilots could be considered "renegade". In fact there may have been talk of prosecution back then, not sure on that one though. For a young american to sign up to fight for anothers armed forces when most of thier peers oppossed the war is quite renegade indeed. Heck most of those pilots just showed up and got there themselves somehow...

To me the french and pole fighters were simply fighting for their countries not what I would call renegade as I am sure all of their countrymen were cheering them on in silent while watching the grey hoarde pass.

Yeah im thinking eagle squadron pilots are what renegade is refering to.

Please no ridiculous DRM

Let me start by saying that I am going to purchase this game no matter what, because I love what Oleg and his team have done, and I'd like to thank them for it. I have spent countless hours strapped into my chair playing IL2 because, in my opinion, there is simply nothing that is more accurate and more enjoyable when it comes to WWII flight simulators.

This being said, I sincerely hope that IL2:CoD does not use some ridiculous anti-piracy solution that inhibits the multiplayer/singleplayer aspect of this game. Sure, there needs to be security in place, but it must not make the game any less enjoyable or reliable for legitimate paying consumers. Regardless of how sophisticated the DRM solution is, hackers will find a way to get around it. This has been demonstrated time and time again, and the main victim in this battle is the honest paying consumer. Which, in turn, eventually leads to a decline in sales. I passionately hope that Oleg and his company do not lose some of their hard earned money to such a small aspect of what appears to be an amazingly well designed product.

I´m sure it´s some kind of mistake, because doesn´t look like anything that Maddox games works before.
I mean, you always look compromised with historical accuracy and the way it´s written is really strange...
But what I really want to do is compliment Oleg , Luthier and all the staff for the years of hard work that finally are coming for
the end.
Years of good historical battles are coming for the community starting March 2011...

As far as my ability to translate spangrish goes I'd say it really refers to 'renegade' Poles, Czechs, French and other pilots from occupied nations, volunteer foreigners, and volunteers from the Commonwealth.

I'm sure it's not some half-arsed "plot device" thing, that would just be stupid.

So excited to actually have a firm date!

Heliocon 01-19-2011 05:49 AM

Great news, really looking forward to the game!
Dont mean to be a downer, but to be honest I was unimpressed by the graphics I saw. Maybe it was the lower video resolution but it had really bad Jaggies. The cockpit lighting and detail is incredible, photorealistic. I am sure the terrain closer up is more detailed, but in the sky scenes / cliffs it looked very much like WOP graphics.

Yep... Ubi has a checkered history leaning towards the real bad, with the uncanny ability to completely stuff up a really good sim.

IF,... Ubi was not the distributor, I'd buy it even if the first reviews were 'neutral'. For now, I will sit and wait the outcome. Hopefully 1C have UBI on a very, very short leash wrt to this sim.

Quoted for truth.
Now I hope all DRM pussies will stand up and buy this game, we need to support these few rare great PC titles, finally 2011 shall be a year of great PC gaming after a few bald years..
And as mentioned before, there is no way in hell Oleg lets all his work slip into some clusterfuck fail with UBI after all these years of hard development and research.

I think the trailer looks absolutely stunning in most parts especially cockpits and lightning , yet some people whine incredibly about it.. since when did you become graphic whores..? you all know this game has
so much more under the hood than just the eye candy, besides the WOP style graphics at some locations isn't necessarily a bad thing as WOP doesn't look bad at all
graphically, and this is leaps ahead of anything the IL2 engine could achieve even with mods and/or "high-res" textures which some claim to be equally on par with Cliffs of Dover.(pathetic)

Nike-it 01-19-2011 07:17 AM

Oleg has had run-ins with UBI management with the IL2 series. Thank goodness he did not let them 'rule' him and the IL2 development (SH3/4/5 are examples of a good sim series going progressively bad).

CoD development looks to be divorced of UBI influence, and maybe Oleg/1C are using UBI for wider distribution which is good business sense. This being the case hopefully the 'contract' is controlled by 1C which would be better for all of us - here's hoping :)

Flying_Nutcase 01-19-2011 07:33 AM

This is exactly what i'm hoping as well. Once you sign it's over, so i seriously doubt he'd let his greatest achievement so far and countless work hours of his team be marred in any way, without first threatening to take it to a different publisher in order to get better terms.

Come to think of it, in the limited amount of predictions and wishlist items i've expressed over the years i managed to land a score. I have wanted detailed systems and engine modelling, along with a persistent online campaign mode and both of them happened. Maybe i'll be lucky and score a hit on this one too so we can all fly unhindered by artificially tacked-on "external" software

P.S. That buddy of mine i recently got into IL2? He's not only already contemplating about getting on board with the new series, he's actually thinking of getting the collector's edition as well. If all goes well and it's working as it should right out of the box, i might be able to push a couple of extra copies to some of my other gamer buddies as well, thanks to the training missions and tiger moth plus mutli-crew feature.

As the matter of fact the community is dead and we all wasted € 45,00 for a DRM infested, buggy, unfinished piece of s....oftware with a campaing ending in 1943 ! So UBISOFT already screwed one of my favourite games and I HOPE AND PRAY that they will not do the same with the other one. Don't get me wrong, but I'm not that excited ! UBISOFT turned into a greedy company protecting the interests of their shareholders only. They don't give a sh*t for their customers. Remembering UPLAY.......

Anyway, I'm an optimist and will of course support Oleg efforts....4 weeks after the release.

P.S.: Although it is probably a rhetorical question; will there be a dedicated server for IL2 Sturmovik "Cliffs over Dover" ? ;)

Congratulations from Sweden Oleg and the team!

If feels almost unreal to read the official statement.

I couldnt care less about DRM, the missing system requirements, how certain words are spelled or what kind of quality of the official trailer.

All these things are just minor issues now that we finally will be able to explore and enjoy Oleg and 1C´s latest creation.

How everybody looks tracers in offical trailer?

I hope so that it is very old trailer and in game tracers will be less lasers. Now it looks little like in Star Wars.

ElAurens 01-19-2011 12:02 PM

It seems the usual suspects have once again missed the fact that the trailer was made using Luthier's low/mid spec computer running a beta build of the game.

To date there has not been any content shown that is using the release version of the sim, that I am aware of, and I follow these boards like a hawk.

Stop the silly nitpicking.

yep we can only speculate but Oleg did a good job on optimisations in past...

I'm sure it's not some half-arsed "plot device" thing, that would just be stupid.

So excited to actually have a firm date!

You have to remember this is a Spanish website and Spain was sympathetic to the Axis powers so to them those guys would be 'renegades'.

No! No! I'm just joking!

Small interview with Luthier :http://www.neocrisis.com/articles/19...over-interview

chiefrr73 01-19-2011 01:24 PM

This is the last sentenc of the interview with Luthier, wich is impressing me a lot: "Be bold. Work hard. Don't cut corners; people can tell. Listen to your community. Know exactly what they want, and give them plenty."

Enough with the DRM already. There has been feedback about DRM for the past years about three billion times. What do you think the odds are that all of that feedback + Oleg's common sense would have been missed and now that they see this dribble on the 11th hour there will be an emergency meeting to change the DRM strategy of the upcoming release? Wake up.

It's decided already, it's going to be what it's going to be and I have a hunch it will be good.

Personally I would buy and play the game even if it would stab me in the gut with a swiss army knife every time I start it up. If you won't buy it due to a need for being online or whatever, fine, but don't spam that BS here over and over again. Let it go.

(All of a sudden I realized I'm guilty of forum policing.. I surpirise myself. I guess we all have our limits :o)

This has been discussed at length in the update threads. Tracers do look a lot like star wars lazers in real life. You'll find that these details will be more accurate in the new game than anything you've previously enjoyed.

I'll have to wait for a site that takes paypal.

I think you misunderstood me....if there will be (soon after release of copies) a downloable version (you pay via paypal or credit card and get a key + download link) you can get it wherever you are....on the planet....if you have internet conn that is..

speculum jockey 01-19-2011 04:51 PM

What I'd really like to know is if there is a purchase/distribution method for those of us in N. America to purchase the game so that Ubisoft gets as little of our money as possible and Oleg and Co. get the most. I want the game, but I would prefere it doesn't go towards Ubisoft so their executives can go on trips to Thailand . . . for. . . well that's a job for interpol.

Matt255 01-19-2011 04:58 PM

Would be great to know, if that 120 page handbook will be included in the other versions in digital form (PDF format).

eshati 01-19-2011 05:03 PM

Very nice news, but is this the game we were waiting for "Battle of Britain", or is it a pre release version of it?

Azimech 01-19-2011 05:10 PM

I'm inclined to buy the collector's edition, printing out that whole manual costs me a lot of toner which I can use for better things.

Gnomie 01-19-2011 05:11 PM

While I'm as thrilled as anyone about this, I fear it's a bad move by the marketing department to change the name "in the last minute". As I understood it, the plan was to make a NEW series of games called Storm of War, in which Battle of Britain would be the first installment. That would make perfect sense.

Since they decided to keep the Sturmovik name, there's a chance that customers will think "oh it's just another expansion for that ancient game" and move on. But on the other hand, Sturmovik is a well established brand name.. so who knows what's better??

Anyway I don't care too much! Looking forward to flying again!

WE (the customers) DO!

They should have said "By the makers of IL-2 Sturmovik"

HUGE difference

I believe it's the same game with new title forced by publisher (ubisoft).

Thanks for the link. It was great to hear they had that much fun developing the game. My only concern now is their next addon to the series, when Luthier said there will be alot raised eyebrows when its announced. I think it may now be something other than the Med.

We know Luthier is developing IL-2 Korea and another third party developing IL-2 Battle for Moscow. It was strongly rumored that Oleg was going to do the Med, but I'm not so sure now. Its all good and let the speculation begin.

Mission editor ?

Hello,

Congratulation for the whole team, that's really great news. The flight school part is a really great idea.

Maybe I have missed something in the various announcements, but will there be a mission editor in IL2/COD ?

Best regards,

Ogier

kestrel79 01-19-2011 06:49 PM

Yeah hmmm I wonder what the next addon will be. I'm trying to think of some really obscure ww2 battles that haven't been touched before in a sim.

India? Burma? Italy?
