Catalyst 12.8 Crash to Black on Launch

Gents,

After updating my AMD Catalyst to 12.8 COD launcher crashes straight away to a black screen freeze that requires a hard reboot. All attempts to start CoD result in a crash. When I tried to reinstall the previous version of Catalyst, only the Manager loaded, leaving the 12.8 drivers in place. At this point, CoD will not launch.

I'm reading the previous posts but not tracking exactly which files to un-install. Following the advice above I see the following listed under the Custom uninstall:

AMD APP SDK Runtime
AMD Display Driver (I'm assuming this is the chipset driver referred to above)
ADMI/DP Audio Driver
AVIVO
HydraVision
AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding
ADM Drag and Drop Transcoding
ADM Media Foundation Transcoding
AMD VISON Engine Control Center

So of the two files to be excluded during the un-install, I'm not sure which one represents the AHCI drivers identified by Bird Dog?

I screwed up the Catalyst drivers once before and it took two days working on a black screen to fix my mistakes. Don't want to go through that again so any help would be appreciated. In the meantime, 12.8 has killed COD for me.

AMD Catalyst 12.8 Fix

Don't suppose anyone is interested since I received no assistance in this matter, if anyone else experiences a crash on launch of CoD using the new 12.8 drivers, the fix is simple.

Go to your original download of the 12.8 driver, double-click to start it up and then select Uninstall, Express and get rid of the entire setup.

When the uninstall is complete and it tells you to re-boot, don't.

Just go to your Catalyst 12.6 file and double-click that to do a complete (Express) install and let it create new folders as needed. Finish the install and then reboot.

CoD started up instantly after that.

S!

I used 12.8's without any problems. Now using the leaked betas dated 9th of september. I always do a full clean up before installing new drivers, DriverFusion is a neat tool for example and it is free.

But for now CoD is on hold for me until the patching what we will get is done and sequel is out. Until then something else is occupying my time ;) :D

CoD Status

I think if you give CoD a try with the lastest Beta patch you'll find that most of the previous problems are fixed. I find the frame rate much improved, the legacy graphics issues cleaned up and biggest improvement for me is the memory/CPU assignments that seems to have cured the crashing problems. I can easily run a sim in mission builder with up to 80 planes, lots of static and mobile features on the ground and not have some much as a stutter unless I get tight with a large group of bombers or fighters.

As for the 12.8 Catalyst, don't know why it won't work in my machine, but the problems was cured as soon as I rolled back to 12.6.

I was refering to Flanker35:)

Nice the game works for you. I have stable fps and no crashes but when playing online, the netcode really fails. If there are more than 10 planes within like 7 kilometers, i get around 1 fps or less.... unplayable. (but still I do...)
