Great I'm happy that it works for you Pot. It's not my case thou, I've never activated HT and I've many more CTDs than before.
BTW I would hardly call an "optimization" to disable HT.

Cheers!

Hypertreading is part of the CPU working flow so you should find it in the bios but do not be suprized is with yours motherboard you cannot disable it.

You can do it in BIOS setup, which you can enter usually with Delete(or numpad Del.. or F1.. depends on motherboard :) ) key in the first screen (aka "POST" screen) that appears when you start your computer. Consult your motherboard manual or the infinite wisdom of Google ;) to find the right menu.

This only works with the i7 range of CPU's, they only contain 4 cores but each core has two threads. It is great for certain operations but for most games it can have a detrimental effect as they are not proper "cores".

Right, but I wonder, why you buy expensive stuff and do not know the essentials, PotNoodles?

HT, Speedstep, TM and so on can all be issues for bad OC results and hick ups of your cpu.

But as I see on your 680 and your 4GB Ram (which should be at least 6 or better with your video card 8 and more GB), you are not well prepared, but already overclocked your rig. That is strange amd it seems, that you just pulled some sliders in the bios to 4 GHz and not read an overclocking guide for your specific cpu and its stepping/revision/serial number.

You should invest some minutes for your OC, because you are currently running without knowing, what actually happens to your system. Not that you soon get a destroyed system, because it is running on bad settings for its lifetime.

Just a tipp! :)

What spec? why isn't it your signature? where it would be a more effective place to list it

@robtek 4gig is fine and you would lose the overclock if you add more then 4 gig.

No it isn't and no you don't ... how many meg does your mobo System Reserve memory RAM to?

and usually, the first things turned off for an effective overclock are turbo_boost, C1E, speed stepping and core parking

Pootnoodles there is some evidence that hyperthreading should be turned OFF for gaming. Alot of games stutter with hyperthreading enabled. Turn it off and start up CLOD and compare. Although i would personally thing that its only down to bad coding of CLOD.
I have a constant FPS of 60 which is my screen refresh rate but i still have stutters with a clnstant FPS so its not the CPU or the GPU just bad coding...

Pootnoodles check these threads out about hyperthreading in other games:

Edit: haha i guess i should finish to the last page before answering... i see that im a bit late with my suggestion :)

Can I just say that is where you are completely wrong! This overclock is done by proper Techs and was sold to me ready overclocked by a well established firm. I was told that if I add more then 4 gig of Ram that I would lose the overclock and it's funny how I have never had a freeze or shut down which would indicate it had been badly overclocked. I have read all about Hyper threading since discovering about it and now I know it's better to have it switched off. Well in my case it must be because it's vastly improved my FPS and my cores are all at low temps because I monitor them with with core Temp. Not one core is above 46c. So where again is this overclock done badly?

Edit: I have noticed that turning TM support back on I still get FPS so this is all to do with the Hyperthreading been disabled.
