Although not a war film, the Flight of the Phoenix with Jimmy Stewart was a great flick...I loved those cartridge charge's to start an engine.

Flying Leathernecks is a pretty good Wayne airplane movie. Also Flying Tigers. Both full of Hollywood but good. Here's one I can't place: Can't think of the name....Korean war movie. Mickey Rooney, William Holden. Holden has a fuel leak after an attack run and is trying to make it back to the coast. Rooney flies a helicopter in to save Holden in the end and they end up trying to escape the NK's through a series of ditches. Anyone? Dang....now I just need to convince my wife to watch a few flying flicks this weekend. Splitter |

A few that haven't been mentioned yet (though not necessarily my favorite)
Flyboys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iadhH...eature=related Decent amount of flight scenes, not-so-great story. The Red Baron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJghJNAjc1k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kHPm...eature=related Good but few fight scenes, and apparently lame story (never watched it) The Final Countdown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gChU-...eature=related So, this modern aircraft-carrier enters some storm which takes it back in time to 1941, and they have the opportunity to stop Pearl Harbor from being attacked. Apparently there were some near-fatal accidents during filming (you can imagine why). Russian Historical Detective (TV series) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfUaw0BfaZA Wish I knew more about this one. Sky Fighters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1ROyKLiLOo Apparently a good film (in French) and from the looks of it, surreal flying scenes Flight of the Phoenix (remake) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxfZHP1HHHg Not great, but fun - I liked it Battle of Santa Cruz (Japanese Documentary) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QvNQS7HLYE Well done animation, but I can't speak Japanese :) I don't know what this is, but I believe it's Japanese as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcTOs9XVUqU For those we love(Warning:contains gore) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Juic9...eature=related Good flying scenes, and even bases some effects from wartime footage. Controversial film because it apparently glorifies the Kamikaze suicide attacks. 633 Squadron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8ARxDGtoPU Good flying scenes, but lame effects. I don't know how good the movie is. Anyway, it's also famous for this parody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OZq-tlJTrU Tora Tora Tora http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgX1WBf2SjE Film about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Good overall, way better than the Bruckheimer/Bay version. Amelia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioZCEpRLpxo Airplane! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaXvFT_UyI8 Who hasn't seen this one :) The Rocketeer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNZCK...eature=related Another Sci-Fi, but it's got interesting flying scenes with a Gee Bee racer. The Strategic Air Command http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGjyH2ulsCk With Jimmy Stewart and real B-36s Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4fVp-hEPOk Great movie The Right Stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuR1p7UdI2Y Great film about the early years of the American Space Race The Great Waldo Pepper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfZhXhCGwEA I only vaguely remember seeing this. Apparently it's also a great movie The Spirit of Saint Louis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pADw8x4zjsk Again with Jimmy Stewart. Good film. That's all I got for now |
A couple more:
Hot Shots http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1YyWDtAU-4 Very Funny  I didn't like Part Deux though. Apocalypse Now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt0xx...eature=related It has one of the most memorable flying scenes in movie history, and is also a stellar film. (I've only seen the "Redux" version). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKaYOW9zMoY |
