Stephen Colbert Believes that this thread deserves the "Colbert Bump".

http://www.202nd.webs.com/bump.jpg

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 08:19 PM

Sounds good to me.

Id like the oatch in my sig, but also a pic of the hurricane, anyway i can have both?

Robotic Pope 09-02-2009 08:25 PM

wow. 11 pages?!

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 08:27 PM

yes next to your hurri pic code in your sig add

but without the spaces. if you want the yank patch AS WELL then after that add

and yes we have been very fortunate, ive never known a response like it, i was astounded with the speed at which it got rolling. :)

we all have to get together and work out whens a good time for everyone to meet.

ill set up a forum especially for it on our web site, so eveyone can say when is good for them, and we can arrange people better so each wing gets their own practice slot, and people who can play together are all in the same wings etc. etc.

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 08:37 PM

cheers house, appreciate it!!

PedroTheGoat 09-02-2009 08:42 PM

Everyone should wear the Yank patch... It is of course the most important. ;)

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 08:43 PM

lol and if anyone doubted your nationality... there's the proof :) hehehe

im interested to see who gets the Stephen Colbert reference :)

also, the thread is now up in our forums for members to state what time they would like their Wing Practice to be. :)

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 08:48 PM

im still trying to figure out how to make sig pics bigger or smaller!! driving me mad. i want the hurricane pic to be as tall as the patch, but wider....no luck :(

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 08:49 PM

think i get the colbert bimp now... had to look it up mind lol.

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 08:50 PM

give me 5 minutes ill sort that for you and ill post the code here for your new pic

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 08:52 PM

this is how it will appear:
http://202nd.webs.com/hurri.jpg

it may be too pixelated for your liking.

and:

is the code for it.

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 08:56 PM

wow, thanks for the help. how did you do it?

your right about it being to pixelated though :(

maybe make the pic slightly smaller so it looks good, and then the logo slightly smaller to match it etc.... need tyo figure it out haha. this could take a while!!

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 08:57 PM

tell you what give me another 5 minutes ill convert them both into 1 picture :) check back in this thread in 5 minutes

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 08:58 PM

really?

your a star!! Though...... if we go up in a friendly fight, red v gold..... dont expect any mercy :P

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 09:00 PM

again how it will look
http://202nd.webs.com/foz.jpg

and the code

and i just resize it in Paint Shop Pro 9, with each individual image, and in the case of this one, put them both into one new image.

PedroTheGoat 09-02-2009 09:03 PM

I'm non stop practicing on the demo when I'm not in school/studying or working.

I'm hoping some of my .50 rounds are going to find that sweet spot in your rear fuselage when we practice. ;)

Been flying the Yak-3 for a couple of fights vs the Bf109G10 and Spitfire IX. It is very good at turning fights, big advantage over the G10 in turn and roll, especially at high speed. Not so much over the Spitfire IX, if anything the Spitfire has an edge at low speed but the two planes are very close. Yak-3 and Spitfire very close in top speed, G10 is a bit quicker. Good climber, but both the IX and the G10 are very good climbers, so they have an edge here. Dive rates are very similar across the board but the Yak-3 has the best high speed control responses.

Only thing I'm not really happy about is the firepower. Duelling with a pair of G10s, and I shot down one, then went after the other. Hit him with a snapshot that get him smoking, but the single cannon runs out of ammo during the snapshot. So I thought, no problem, he's already in damaged, I'll just knock him down with the MGs. Haul round on his tail, open fire and the MGs run out of ammo in about 1 second. Cursed, turned and dived away, but the G10 didn't come after me so I started following it and it went down on its own a couple of minutes later.

So I was curious, because I hadn't been using much ammo even though the Yak-3's guns don't seem to do as much damage as a Bf109 with a similar armament of 1 20mm cannon and 2 13mm MGs. Timed the firing time and the Yak-3 has only 9 seconds for the 20mm Cannon and 10 for the 2 12.7mm MGs. A Bf109G with that armament has 13 seconds for the cannon and 20 for the MGs, and really it should be more, they only have 150 rounds of 20mm ammo when they could have 200 but the game has no option to increase the ammo loadout.

Yeah that's my problem with the Yak-3 on 1946, is I don't think they got the rate of climb good enough. In reality, the Yak-3 was superb in Maneuvering, Climbing, and guns. And the reason, there is only 150 rounds for the cannon, is because they wanted to keep the plane light, and I know that later Yak-3s like the Yak-3P and I think the Yak-3U something, had 210 cannon rounds, but both of those were designed produced after the war, and used for ground attack. The WW2 Yak-3, has no number or letter. It's just that Yak-3 :D

PedroTheGoat 09-02-2009 10:03 PM

I wonder how much ammo my P47 can take on?

Matters on the model. My favorite was the P-47D with the Razor-back canopy. I'm not a fan of the P-47 with the teardrop canopy. But anyway, with the plane being 10,000lbs empty, and a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-63 Supercharged engine. I'd say it could carry enough ammunition for its sorties. I mean it did have 6-8 .50 caliber MG's, which did eat up a lot of ammunition, but I can't give an exact number.

i dunno about that plane, it might be completely worthless info but i know at the outbreak of war hurricanes had 200 rounds for each gun and bf109s had 600

just thought you'd like to know

FOZ_1983 09-03-2009 12:30 AM

enough for 12 seconds of continual fire. That alot of ammo in 12 seconds.

PedroTheGoat 09-03-2009 05:13 AM

I am stoked.

I have another American that is going to join up on Eagle Wing who happens to be a WW2 History major. He seems to know his stuff as far as the aviation goes. (Much more than this Goat could ever wish to know)

PedroTheGoat 09-03-2009 05:14 AM

As long as I have enough ammo to shoot down five planes in a sortie I will be happy. Always wanted to become an Ace in one day with truly realistic settings.

Sorry, I should have said it was the Bf109G I was talking about when I said it only had 150 rounds for the 20mm cannon and should have 200. The Yak-3 has 120 rpg for the 20mm and 170rpg for the two 12.7mm MGs. So that is firepower on the weak side of average for a late war fighter with below average amounts of ammo. Doesn't help that the Russian ShVAK cannon used by the Yak-3 is rather inferior to the Hispano or the MG151 20mm cannons.

Definitely agree with needing to keep the Yak-3 light, it only has a 1,290hp engine when the Spitfire IX has 1,720hp and the Bf109G10 has 1,800hp.

I think the Yak-3's climb rate is modelled quite well, the real life initial climb rate is 4,265ft/min, which puts it at the top end of climb rates, but both the Spitfire IX and Bf109G10 have initial climb rates in the order of a bit over 4,500ft/min so their having an edge over the Yak-3 here seems fair.

Still, having only one point of real weakness (firepower) as a dogfighter isn't bad, most of the Yak-3's rivals have several at least.

Your info seems right about the Yak-3, but I hope you didn't just use Wikipedia as your source. Their specs and information, isn't about the Tiblisi built Yak-3s that were the superior. Their information is on the Saratov Yak-3s which had several serious problems. But anyway, the Yak-3 does have several advantages against its Luftwaffe foe, which is roll rate and turning. The Yak-3 could outturn and roll quicker than any 109 or 190.

No, I got the Yak-3's initial climb rate here, and this agrees with what I have seen in Il2, but if you have more accurate information on the Yak-3's performance I would be interested to see it.

I agree with you though, the Yak-3 can certainly out turn the Fw190 and Bf109, and out roll the Bf109 though I don't think it can quite match the Fw's high speed roll rate. That's why I said the Yak-3's only real weakness as a dogfighter is its firepower, it can match, beat or come close to just about any of its rivals in any aspect of performance, except perhaps top speed and range which aren't so important for dogfighting, where most rivals will have at least one point which they are poor at when it comes to dogfighting.

I love flying the 109 for its top speed, acceleration and climb rate, but it has some pretty big flaws as a dogfighter. High speed handling is poor across the entire series, and the later versions have poor turn rates too. Still, the ability to set up kills using the speed and climb rate and the way you can get out of trouble easily against most opponents can make up for this so long as you don't try to fight in close when flying the later 109s.

i have NO idea at all!! haha. It will be coming up in many threads when the civilians are complaining about yak wrecks being all over their land etc ;) Still....farmers could make a nice chicken shed or something out of the wreckage :P

We need to fly, red v gold. or before that find out who likes dogfighting and who likes bombing lol.

bit like star wars!! red wing was the xwings attacking death star (fighter) gold wing was the y-wing (more of a bomber).

i always preffered the y-wing haha

That reminds me of the old X-wing and TIE Fighter PC games, They were some of the best games i've ever played. Nothing was more awesome than the B-wing and it's firepower.

By the way! I am number 1 on the leaderboards for simulator dogfight!

*FLEX*

We're going to have to start gearing up for simulator very soon. Maybe LA Smack and I can hold some training sorties and such for a few of our more inexperienced members???

LaRock O no Lie 09-06-2009 08:55 AM

I tried joining another squad, but they never replied or added me... House added me... so I will be more then happy to fly with you all, but I will not be doing sim mode untill at least 9/10 when I get my flightstick.. :-)

Pedro... Id love to get lessons... I would have to say Im a nub at combat flight sims with prop planes... and as such in the demo and with the controller I was always going into a spin... never crashed due to it... but id definately get shot down online in sim mode easily with the controller. I used to intentionally go into flat spins on falcon 4.0 because of "Top Gun".... ( I still shed a tear when Goose dies ) :-) I got to the point where I would recover a flat spin about 60% of the time..... ( as long as I initiated it at a decent altitude. )

LaRock O no Lie 09-06-2009 09:26 AM

will check out the site in your sig... hopefully its not hard to enlist... because Im a lazy american pig... :-) unless I am chasing some japs or nazis!!!! then I become anti-lazy!

I just enlisted.... kinda sad because my favorite plane is not in the game... but oh well... I am sure no one would want me to be flying an a-10 in a ww2 theater.... :-)

actually, I can fly online in strike ore the airstrip modes... because I can fly a bomber.... but sadly I haven't unlocked the great b-17... and my fav from 1946 the stuka has no cockpit and no dive sirens so I refuse to fly it, :-) call me crazy but its just not right to divebomb in a stuka and not have the siren sound... and I can't always make the sound with my voice every time I us the plane!

Once I get my flightstick, I will be more then happy to swap roles.

House MD 221B 09-06-2009 10:08 AM

Thanks man! You are starting to fly much better than this old Goat!

It's nice to dominate the simulator leaderboards with you! Join our squadron if you haven't already!

Edit: (you don't have to.... I don't want to sound like a demanding Goat)

Just had a look at the newlook of the website, it just keeps looking better. Those uniforms are a nice touch. One thing though, you changed my wing number? :(

House MD 221B 09-09-2009 07:57 PM

my apologies, consider it fixed.

elneilios 09-09-2009 08:07 PM

Bummer to get taken out of Gold and put into Reserves but I understand why... makes me want to get the game even more! I'm waiting for my wife to be in a very good mood so she doesn't kill me for spending the money we don't have on it!!

House MD 221B 09-09-2009 08:11 PM

it's nothing personal, its about giving everyone the chance to be where they want to be, rather than me just filling slots, now i know you want to be in gold, il change your uniform and transfer you :)

Chips86 09-09-2009 08:12 PM

Hey man, I'll have to fly with you soon, tommorow maybe?

House MD 221B 09-09-2009 08:17 PM

absolutely, im sick at the mo so im on in the daytime asleep early evening

Cheers man, thats great although it was ok with me if you wanted to keep me in reserves till I become active.

Btw, left a few forum messages on the 202nd board with some suggestions, just my 2 pence (i'm English and it rhymes with cents anyway!)

House MD 221B 09-09-2009 08:37 PM

no worries man, nah im happy with people assigned to where they want, the reserve thing is to whittle out the inactive ones, and by inactive i mean people who arent making ANY contact whatsoever.

and cool ill check the forums.

highflyer 09-09-2009 08:38 PM

Hi, I did apply, and received no acknowledgment lol, so will do so again. My application is as last time, however, my preferred plane is now the I-16.

Hope to fly with you soon!

House MD 221B 09-09-2009 08:43 PM

FOZ_1983 09-09-2009 11:37 PM

any luck with the B17? im guessing its a strike mission to do... plenty of targets destroyed in a bomber....

could be wrong though. Im enjoying the blenhiem and the hurricane at the mo.

the_somme 09-10-2009 08:26 AM
