The following prerequisites are required:
* .NET Framework 2.0 (x86)

So, am I to un-install firefox and install IE just to get to d/l that game or ?

bman654 09-23-2008 04:14 PM

.net has nothing to do with IE or firefox. I am not sure what you are talking about. Try the link I gave and install that, then see if you can install/run the downloader.

Windows Xp, RAM 3G, Nvidia 8800 Gt 512mb (driver 175.19).
I'll try beta driver after i get back from work but really have no idea what the problem is.

Seems like the beta driver (177.92) for my video card solved all my problems.

Hi,
Thanks, that helped :) I was mixing things up - Probably because I was/am so excited about this game. All d/l and working 100% - off to give it a go.

Hello everyone !

Just bought KB today at GamersGate. Nice game btw.

I've been suffering from a problem since the demo. Here are the steps :

1. The game, at first ( three tests ), runs fine.
2. I leave the tutorial area and receive the first quest.
3. Any battle will just lock the game after some minutes. First the game hangs. Drop to desktop where I can't interact with anything ( taskmanager, alt+tab, etc nothing works at all ). The cursor still maintains its form from the game ( a sword ). Since I got no response from the computer I got to boot the thing and start all over again with the same results.

Steps taken to try to resolve the problem :

1. Closed all antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware software with no results.
2. Nothing at the windows event viewer.
3. Already got the latest drivers from video, sound, raid, network.

I've sent an email to 1c support already.

Anybody else got this kind of problem ?

My specs are :

Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Motherboard : Gigabyte P35-DS3
Video Card : MSI GeForce 8800 GTX
Sound Card : Realtek HD Audio
Memory : 4GB

Vista 64 bit Pro

I have a question.

If the demo runs just fine on my vista 64 bit Pro setup, is it a safe bet that the game will be OK as well? I would like a little assurance before I purchase it tomorrow. Please advise. Thanks.:)

Just tried it, and I set it back to 0 immediately.

Game took forever to load, and was VERY laggy, and I've got a quad-core with 4 gigs.

Plus, the taskbar was hidden so it didn't do me any good anyway.

I know its a minor issue, but does anyone know if you can invert the mouse axes for camera control?

First look in the "system" folder in Control panel to find you CPU and amount of RAM, also press "Run" and write "dxdiag". All these info send to 1C support (support@1cpublishing.eu).

Full Game Download not Activating

The demo was great and I purchased the game as a result. I went through the Atari website, paid, and received all the confirmation emails with the game serial number.

After the download, I went to activate the product. I copied the serial number out of the web page confirmation and via my e-mail confirmation. Neither code (both the same actually) would allow me to activate the game.

Not sure if this is an Atari, Digital River, or King's Bounty problem. I legitimately purchased the game, but cannot activate it with the given serial number. Is there a community fix or am I missing something?

Thanks for any response.

license data error on DVD install

Hello all,
I purchased the DVD game today. It was the only copy the store had. I installed the game without any error messages or problems.
When I try to run the game, (with the DVD inserted) I get a popup message, "could not write license data Please contact customer support for further instructions"

What does this mean? I am thinking it doesn't sound good. My system meets or exceeds all recommended requirements....

Any help is appreciated...

Tabbi

OmegaDestroyer 09-25-2008 01:13 AM

I am having the same problem and I'm quite ticked off about it. I sent off an email to Digital River but who knows when I'll hear back from them. I never even received an activation code. All I got was a serial number that doesn't work.

Nice to see I'm not the only person who's had this problem. Now let's see how long it takes to fix it.

axxis32 09-25-2008 01:16 AM

I have experience something unsual ... a bug :)

When you are talking to a npc and he requires a response (world) and you are attacked at the same time, the locks up. You cannot save, but you can load (and guess what? ... correct... last up to date save I have is autosave... wich is like 30mins old... )

Quikpik 09-25-2008 01:50 AM

Game won't start

I'm having a problem where the game doesn't start. It installed fine, I click the icon to start the game, I hear the DVD drive spinup, I see the disc icon on my mouse cursor. Then the process just drops. I am playing on a laptop with XP Pro. I checked the readme file and my video card does support Pixel Shader 2.0.

Other games work fine like EQ2, WoW, and Civ4.

Anyone have an idea to the problem?

Direwolf 09-25-2008 04:31 AM

Hey guys,

i initially had the same problem BUT...the serial number that you received will activate the game.

You need to enter the serial number into the Middle section of the page where it says online activation.

If you try the offline activation it will give you an error message saying the serial number is not valid.

Hope this works for you.

cheers,
DW

OmegaDestroyer 09-25-2008 05:10 AM

Thanks, but I've tried that. Doesn't work. All I get is a message that says:

Status: Activation Failed -server error- wrong/invalid serial.

My serial is a 16 digit code that doesn't do anything. This is really disappointing. :(

Quikpik 09-25-2008 05:24 AM

Nevermind, I found updated drivers for the video card.

Just to be certain, the code is 19 characters, 16 alphanumeric and 3 "-",
you need to enter all of them.
And if you are copy-pasting, make sure you don't copy any extra spaces.

OmegaDestroyer 09-25-2008 07:23 AM

I've tried all that. It just doesn't work. Thankfully Atari got back to me and the offline activation code is being emailed to me. Hopefully that fixes things.

Zaza 09-25-2008 08:59 AM

hey guys, i want to buy the download version from atari too because gamersgate gives me the european price of 39,99 EUROs.

can anybody tell me what kind of restrictions downloaded atari games have? like how often can you activate the game, can you install it on different computers and stuff like that.
didnt find infos about this on the atari site.

infos would be nice, thanks!

Jelry 09-25-2008 09:25 AM

I am using the 19 digit code (16 #, 3 -) in the middle part of the activation screen, but the game will not activate. I am getting the same error that OmegaDestroyer listed.

Omega,

Could you provide a link/short instruction that started the resolution with Atari? I clicked and followed the Customer Service button on the Digital River activation screen, but have not heard from anyone yet. Maybe your way was different.

Zaza,

Sorry, I don't have any of that information.

Look at the beginnig of this thread, there are several solutions to solve this problem. But first of all download latest drivers for video card and DirectX 9.0c.

Nike-it 09-25-2008 11:07 AM

The only thing that I can advice is to contact Atari. 1C can't help with activation problems of Atari version.

I rec'd a solution today via email.....thought I would share:

"Please follow the instructions below:

1) Open the command line by pressing "Start" and selecting the "Run..."
option.

2) Type "cmd" (without "s) and push the [Enter] button on the keyboard.

3) Please type in the following command:
rd /s "%APPDATA%\SecuROM"
and press [Enter] on the keyboard.

4) Answer Y to the Y/N question and press [Enter] to complete the process.

Now launch your game again, it should work now."

......the game does run perfectly! Thank you for a very beautiful, fun and engaging product.

widescreen support for 16:9 monitors

One of my friends has already had the pleasure to try the EU demo but unfortunately he is forced to play the game in a letterbox (black bars on both sides of the screen, all because of the 4:3 ratio).

The only thing we are absolutely sure of is that the game supports 16:10 as I can run it in 1440x900 without any problems.

Do any of you guys know about an .ini tweak, mod or oncoming patch that would solve this problem and would make the game playable on 16:9 resolutions as well?

Appreciated, thanks!

The GG has official contract with 1C and they can't sell viruses. Something is wrong with your antivirus.

No, that's not what I meant :) 16:10 works fine for me (that's 1440x900) but 16:9 resolutions don't seem to be available in the options menu. Here's a screenshot, it's easy to see the two black bars on each side:

Graphical Glitch

I have an issue with the retail (DVD) version of the game that I did NOT have with the demo. The issue is that the ground appears as all black, and the textures appear a little washed out.

I don't know if this is becuase the demo was a more recent build (I seemed to notice this in the .ini file), because again the demo was fine.

I have an ATI Radeon 4870 card (512 mb). Tried it with both the most recent Catalyst 8.9 drivers and with the older 8.8 drivers. Also tried setting various options in display options without success.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't what the bonus is, because my game crash whenever I try to finish that quest (this happen after I kill both Kraken and James then seeing her). @Jelry

I emailed pskoglund@digitalriver.com with my problem.

Ironically, this morning I tried activating the game with my serial number and it worked, so I'm not sure what the problem was. I'm thinking maybe there was an issue with the server.

In a sense, I'm glad someone else has this problem. I also have this bug. The game crashes to desktop (no error messages) when trying to get Mirabella.

It doesn't matter if you only kill Kraken, talk to her, kill James, then talk to her again... the game still crashes.

This post is taken from the Wives/Children bonuses thread. I have the same exact problem as the person who posted this.

Both of them are terrible for games, but if you like torturing yourself instead of spending a mere $150 on an nVidia 8800GT/9800GTX or Ati HD4850 card that would run the game excellently, then the 7600GS would be a marginally better choice.

jake21 09-25-2008 11:33 PM

There was a similar issue with mass effect after the patch. I believe that somewhere under the game folder images are cached and when you patch or upgrade the game the cache becomes invalid. If you delete this cache of textures then the problem will be fixed.

How to Change Camera Angle?

Is it possible to change the angle of view. I know we can zoom in and out, but it is somewhat difficult to see hidden items that are partially covered by a cave wall, like in the training area. I think I have tried everything, but want to be positive.

We sent a patch, fixing this error to Atari, they should release it.

This is some BS support man. How the hell do you fix this? Why is there no actual programmers who worked on this providing a fix for this?

Error message:

.\.BMRender\rmode.cpp(1583): DirectX call failed: -1, -1,D3DERR_INVALIDCALL (The method call is invalid. For example, a method's parameter may not be a valid pointer)

Any clue when exactly we will be able to download this patch? I just hit the Mirabella crash bug myself and I am impatient. =D

Are there any known workarounds other than not turning it in?

I can't say anything about the date, we sent the fix, and I can't predict Atari's actions. And I haven't heard about the hint to avoid crash. As soon as the patch is out, I'll post it here.

I figured as much. Oh well...worth a try. =D

Right now I have a save before and after the Kracken fight. Which one should I continue playing with in order to go back and complete the quest once the patch is released? I have dealt with weird save game problems relating to patches in the past, so it's best to be on the safe side.

Also, any other juicy tidbits about whats included on the patch? =D

For the Gamers Gate version...do they get the patch from Atari? or did you send it to Gamers Gate also?

When is this going to be fixed? This game is completely useless for me and others who have this error.

Why is there no programmer here who worked on this providing an explanation for a bug like this? and possible fix.

If I was a programmer I wouldn't help such a rude person. You didn't even provide your system specs.

Although he is certainly rude, a fix would be nice. Also, I did give my system specs and have already tried all solutions listed in the thread (as I mentioned earlier in thread). Apparently this was a problem for the russian release as well- I can't tell if it was fixed or not though, can't speak russian.

Another bug in the atari disk version - when you kill the turtle and give him blood the text is not line wrapped so it scrolls off the side of the screen and you cannot read it.

I hope it isn't important because obviously I can't read it - perhaps you could post what the turtle said ?

[I can read: If karrakh ever appraoches, you'll (rest is off the screen)

Can't Allocate Additional 6291480 bytes?

1 Attachment(s)
Just got an error "Can't Allocate Additional 6291480 bytes?" after playing for several hours straight.

This is the second time I have gotten this error which crashed me out of the game, so I figured I would post it. It happened while I was saving the game after beating Duke Sov, so I am not sure if the error is talking about memory or hard drive space. Either way, I had have plenty of both when it happened.

I have 283GB free on my hard drive and 4GB of memory. At the time of the crash KB.exe was using a whopping 1.157GB and everything else was taking up 1.48GB so I should have had about 1.3GB left.

If I restart the game and load up my pre-battle save game KB.exe only uses about 670MB of RAM. Seems like there might be a memory leak somewhere.

I have attached both the 32 and 64 Bit DxDiags in case you need them. Also, you may want to up the forums "Max Filesize" for .txt files from 19.5KB to about 40KB so that people can attach them without zipping them up or spamming the thread with it.

Enjoy!

knoxchris 09-27-2008 04:33 PM

I get this error about once an evening as well. Usually when the game has been running for a few hours. Does seem like a memory leak, so save frequently. :)

Sound solution

If you still have the problem of no sound goto the default.ini file located in the data folder of Kings Bounty.
Open with notepad.

Scroll to the bottom and locate # Integer parameter
setf ~cl_force_soundcard -1 change the 1 to a 0 so it should now look like this

# Integer parameter
setf ~cl_force_soundcard -0

Close and save.

and there's your sound

Yeah well I did over a week ago and no response so go bite me. The support for this demo/game is totally inadequate, I would not purchase anything from a place that does not even have the moderators to provide suppoort, and NO I dont give a damn if they are just a distributor, they should provide moderation on the boards.

phoenixreborn 09-28-2008 04:26 AM

Are you kidding me? First of all my post wasn't even directed at you unless you are under 2 accounts.

Second what did you download, the game or the demo? Must be the demo since the English version wasn't out yet.

2 posts before your first one is a moderator post and, Nike-It is all over the place providing help...so I don't know where you are looking but it ain't at these boards.

There is an email address for technical support. This is just a forum and being rude does not make people want to help you.

These are the information i got.. Will this be able to play the demo and the actual game itself? My problem is that it crashes right after i go through the very first portal of the game..no error messages or whatsoever, it just crashes..if its not much of a hassle you can also reply via email: aldrich_gnat@yahoo.com

To add up.. I tried starting the demo at windowed mode, it crashed at the same place.. but this time an error message pops up...

Application aborted!
.\.BMRender\rmode.cpp(2575): DirectX call failed: -1, -1,D3DERR_INVALIDCALL (The method call is invalid. For example, a method's parameter may not be a valid pointer)

So..the demo doesn't work for me both for windowed and full screen mode..
full screen mode crashes without any messages.windowed mode crashes with that message.

One problem down..

FYI, I was stuck with the same BMRENDER bug for a few days whenever I started the game but found a way around it. I downloaded 3D Analyze (free), which lets you tweak several of the graphics settings. The only item I checked off when running the KB.exe file is "Run in windowed mode". It doesnt actually run in a window.. but the game runs perfectly. Don't ask me why it works, but I was just thrilled that I didn't waste $40.. not to mention the game is amazing.

Technical stuff

Hello Egoo and everyone,

Ladies and gentleman. How does a person explain all of these technical problems? Try this. I installed the demo on a higher end PC that runs with no difficulty, in my opinion a more graphic intensive game titled "The Witcher." However, King's Bounty would not run on the same pc. See entering the first portal crash in another thread. I gave up.

With time on my hands I installed the DEMO again on a slower PC/CPU that runs at 2.40GHz and has the following older video card Card name: 128 DDR ATI Radeon 9700 TX w/TV-Out. Lo and behold the DEMO runs fine with no difficulties and motivated me to purchase the DVD game from J&R Music at Amazon.com. J&R is located in New York,

A word to the wise. I am still concerned if the complete game when installed will work? However, others on this forum have installed the game running on a slower PC than the one above and the game runs very well. Thus, what does this all mean? I suggest before you run out and purchase a new video card. You may be a abit hasty. The game sounds to me as if it has been released with the requirements set far too high with the new Vista machine being the baseline target and King's Bounty does not require such a high end machine. It happens. Hopefully a patch and my experience with the game will continue to be on the positive side. However, when I install the complete game we'll see?

Be sure and read some of the PC specs on other threads that have been successful running the game. They are eye openers.

I'm pretty sure J and R doesn't ship outside the US.

So you got it running on your older machine? Or you don't have the game yet?

Hi guys

I live in Australia and just downloaded the demo from a local client. I've played it and loved it but not sure how to buy it, it asks me if i want to activate it b4 entering demo. It would be great if i just have to buy the serial number but where? i wouldnt want to download anything since i use dial-up, i asked my brother to download the demo for me. Anyways if u can tell me an aussie where to buy and activate the full game that'll be great.

Oh, i did have a little problem when playing the game. Every 30secs or so the game would slow down for a few seconds. It was getting very annoying so i put all the graphics down low and that didnt help. I updated to the latest nvidea drivers and started reading these forums. I finally diabled one of the cpus so only one was being used and that seemed to help. When you boot up the game alt-tab then alt-tab-delete, go to prosesses find kb.exe and right click it, select affinity then uncheck all but one cpu. It has helped me with other games i thought i'd give it a shot

The demo is not the full version of the the game. The full game is about 2GB and the demo is about 720MB. I am not sure exactly why the demo has the activation dialog when you start it up, but as far as I know, there is no way to get any extra content from the demo if you somehow obtained an activation code. I guess I should have tried my key in the demo to see what happened before I deleted it.

I know that people have been having trouble finding boxed copies here in the US, so I am guessing it can't be much better down under. If you can't find a boxed copy there I would suggest going to someones house that has a fast connection and purchase a Direct Download there, burn it, and bring it home. Of course this assumes that the person downloading it also has a DVD burner. You could also bring your box to the fast connection, set up networking, and download it directly to your computer.

Here is a link where you can purchase and download it:

Good luck.

luna_park 09-30-2008 06:59 AM

Thank you for your reply xanthanx. That will be something i will do i think, either get some1 to download or take my box over and download it as to avoid any protection conflict that might arise.

Cheers.

My closest games shop is 2 hours drive away :(

I thought that I saw about 6GB being installed.

Harneloot 09-30-2008 05:00 PM

I just bought the game from the local GameStop for $39.99.

My machine is an AMD 64 X2 Dual 4400+ (2.2ghz) with 1GB ram and a nvidia GeForce 7800GS 256MB video card (AGP 8X)

Going to load it up now and I'll let you all know how it goes....

Harneloot 09-30-2008 06:32 PM

The game installed 5.35 GB onto my hard drive.

I just completed all three training quests without so much as a single hiccup!!!

Great game!!!!!!
