Best dll so far!!!!! Thx to Oleg and his team (thank you CrazyIvan to keep us updated!!!)

I am driving a rig built around IL2:

Windows XP Pro SP2, Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850, Mobo: Asus Striker Extreme, 2x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400, Two BFG GeForce 8800 GT in SLI with Zerotherm HC92 Cu 8800 VGA Cooler, Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion, 4 Western Digital Caviar WD7500AAKS in RAID config, Watercooling Thermaltake Armor LCS case, SpotCool fan over Soundcard, SpotCooler over RAM.....

With this I run the following config WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM with the new dll!

[Render_OpenGL]

Only little glitch I noted: the Corsairs don't seem to touch the deck on carrier take off...slightly floating

Any other glitches like coastline, flashing, black water, circles and so on are corrected.

The best proof: I get quite often shot down while admiring the landscape and not paying attention to the unfriendly flying up behind me...then I can admire my flaming plane going down with effects=2...beautiful LOL!

Please keep up the good work! We are all waiting for the new benchmark SOW coming out. This will be a new milestone. Keep on going even if the path is difficult. It will make a revolution out there. Remember times when IL2 was a benchmark for videoperformance?

Thank you guys!

Cheers,

Eckhart

Ah I forgot: FPS is between 40 (the most crowded scenery with huge numbers of planes) and over 100...average 70 FPS!

Golf Pro 03-26-2008 10:52 PM

These DLL's don't look good for me. Lots of missing panels on planes:

Those driver update links on 3DGuru's appear completely dead. Do you have to be a member to d/load them?

Need a more powerful processor

Hi GolfPro,

I wonder if this is perhaps due to the limitation of your laptop processor. I run my game on a quadcore which allows me to use effects=2 without a glitch.

Upgrading to a powerful processor made the biggest change for me, more than upgrading my videocards (moved from 7900 SLI to 8800 GT SLI).

By the way, I use the standard Nvidia driver for my cards: 169.21. Before with my 7900 cards I tried those NGO drivers. They performed nicely but had some problems with stability (game crash).

My recommendation is to move to a more powerful processor if you want effects=2. Flight simulators need a lot of resources in terms of calculation power....

Cheers,

Eckhart :-P

Golf Pro 03-28-2008 09:09 AM

Hello Eckhart. I went back to Effects=1 to see if this graphics glitch disappeared, but unfortunately not.

Oh well.....

I hope that it helps you!

Golf Pro 03-31-2008 05:44 PM

Beh. I'm getting white flashes now, instead of the old red ones.

Is it possible to just take the new maps and objects from 4.09b, and go back to the 4.08 dll's?

TX-EcoDragon 03-31-2008 11:52 PM

GolfPro, that looks like an issue with your video card drivers. I'd bet it would be resolved if you tried a newer/different version.

In my case, the recent dlls cause lots of distant shimmering and aliasing of rivers and coastlines. This has made it very difficult to see aircraft flying over these aliased lines. Even with 16X AA it's still there, and I usually just run 2x-4x and don't have that issue.

Golf Pro 04-01-2008 08:45 AM

Ecodragon - yes I suspect that's the issue. The trouble with having a laptop (at least a HP one) is that you can't download new drivers direct from NVidia. They have a licence agreement with HP that means that the drivers can "officially" only be downloaded from HP themselves - and they don't have any updates at present.

I'll probably go for the unofficial updates that KYA suggested. The thing is, my laptop is vital for my work at the moment (and probably for the next few months), so I'm not going to risk anything unofficial until that's complete.

What is the video drivers version that you use?

Ojisan_Buba 04-03-2008 07:18 AM

~S~

Im using the 7.11 ati, i used before the latest but reading the posts here changing back to 7.11 and used drivecleaner.
Im rather satiesfied with the new dll's, i think the visibility is increased.

Thanks a lot CrazyIvan.

try this down load the latest divers 8.3 once you have installed them turn
off <catalyst AI> and run it in standard mode. you should have better graphics, although I run mine in x800/9600/9800; I don't mess with all those custom setting those seem to mess things up for me.

Ojisan_Buba 04-04-2008 08:04 AM

Ty Mastiff,

But earlier in posts they recommend the use of the 7.11. Otherside i can try it. But how to turn of the Catalist AI???
I have set the clouds on medium, is that the reason for these poor shadows??

Try also Catalist 8.2!
Select appropriate video card in il2setup (or pfsetup).1XXX
Select desired 32bit-color video mode with stencil enabled!
Then run a game and select Perfect Video Mode in game menu!

Ojisan_Buba 04-04-2008 03:37 PM

TY Kya,

Do i have to install the control center also??? Or only the display drivers??
How to turn off the catalist ai??

I cant run the game on perfect, than my graphics are very dizzy when moving head using track ir. I run it on high or excellent.

GF_Mastiff 04-04-2008 09:53 PM

you need to pick the Video x800/9200/9600/9800 setting then it should let you pick perfect. this settings can be found in the il2settings.exe the icon with the sledg hammer.

As for the clouds you can run them in Detailed also just so you guys know anything over 9600 should run in perfect with all setting on and that also increases your FPS.

I run a dual x1600 ATI set up and have all the eye candy on and get 50 to 90 FPS.8.3 drivers.

The Catylyst AI is in the 3D setings. yes you need to install the catylyst controler.

Yes, get the package with the control Center. I am not sure what disabling AI will do, you can try that. You can disable AI in the control center under 3D->all settings. When Control center starts for the fist time, make sure you chose advanced mode. Also, when you fly with TIR make sure that vSync is enabled, you will lose FPS but that would prevent texture ripping, pawning will be much smoother.

Ojisan_Buba 04-05-2008 04:15 PM

Ty for the answers,

But last and maybe silly question: where can i find the vSync????

In the control center under 3d->all settings set "Wait for vertical sync" to always on.

Thanks a lot Ivan, i found it

IceFire 04-06-2008 09:48 PM

Quick question for everyone...I've been trying these DLLs out for a few weeks now and they are nearly flawless except for one thing. In the FMB when you activate the destruction feature none of the colored areas indicating the status of that block comes up...instead its just opaque.

Everyone else experiencing that or is it just me? I read through some other posts but didn't see that mentioned.

dflion 04-06-2008 10:07 PM

White area over map when destruction activated

I am having exactly the same problem Icefire - the whole map 'whites-out' when activating the destruction levels, though destruction seems to work ok during a ground attack mission?
I would be interested to know if the DLL's have caused this change, or is it a different set-up?

DFLion

Definitely the DLLs. If I swap them in and out it goes between working as expected and not.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. That likely means that its a widespread issue. Whats your configuration?

I'm on a Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM, GeForce 8600GTS, Win Vista Home Premium.

Golf Pro 04-07-2008 08:53 AM

I don't have that problem. One thing I have noticed, though I can't believe it relates to the DLL's, is that aircraft more frequently fail to attach themselves to take-off waypoints on airfields. If I play the same mission 4 or 5 times, by the fifth time the flight will start off on the field next to the runway.

It's a bit weird, tbh.

IFly_1968 04-07-2008 08:21 PM

HOw????

OK I downloaded the new DLLs.

My System,

ASUS M2N-SLI nVidia nForce 560

4 gb Patriot 4.4.4.12 PC2-6400

XFX PVT94PYDE4 GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3.20 GHz 2000 MHz AM2 2 x 1MB

How or where do I begin to get the most perfect settings for IL2 from this setup???

Any help would be appreciated. Right now I am not home but will be posting my Conf.ini when I get there.

proton45 04-07-2008 10:03 PM

Is March 13 the latest patch?

Thanks

White area over map when destruction activated (2)

Hi IceFire,
My system specs are - Moboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4, RAM 4GB Corsair DDR2, Video card 8800 Ultra, CPU Intel QX6850 Quad core, Monitor 24" Benq GTG, 850 watt power supply.
As you can see I have a 'high-end rig' - the new DLL's seem to be going ok - the Slovakian map looks great, though I occasionally get 'white-flashes' when it is misty and cloudy and in the 'take-off dust'. I have been testing the DLL's and so far this latest one seems to be the most stable, apart from the 'white destruction area' which obviously is an issue.

Well we both have nVidia 8 series cards so maybe that has something to do with it. I do agree that overall the new DLLs are superb in all other respects.

jurinko 04-10-2008 07:44 AM

max settings - switch to perfect mode, select maximum settings in the il2setup.exe, in the conf.ini set the visibility distance to 72km, under OpenGL section set water = 3 (or 2 or 4, depends on GF), set forest = 3.

IvanK 04-11-2008 12:47 PM

Jurinko.

Visibilty set to 73 in Conf.ini. ? do you mean 3 which seems to be the defult with Landgeom=3

_79_cfb 04-11-2008 01:17 PM

I set my visibilty to 73 and it went back to 3

Deovis 04-11-2008 03:05 PM

@ _79_cfb

Watch out!!!

the VisibilityDistance parameter in the conf.ini (opengl) must be set to 3 to have the maximum visibility range of 73km and not to the actual range distance like you did! ;)

So VisibilityDistance=3 corresponds to a visibility range, in the game, of 73km!

Thanks for clearing that up Devis

A bump to keep it on the frontpage :)

Well I have so say that these DLLs, minus the full mission builder problem with the damage cities graphics as mentioned before, is otherwise spot on. No visual glitches at all...solves so many problems.

LukeFF 04-26-2008 05:09 AM

I've been having an issue with both these March 13th DLLs and the ones before them. As you can see below:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...grab0000-1.jpg

This is on the Kurland map, but this problem also shows up on other maps. In addition to this, I get a lot of flickering with shadows on the water cast from trees and hillsides. I'm also getting issues with stuttering when flying over large cities like Libau (on the Kurland map).

I'm using a pair of 8800 GTS cards in SLI mode and have tried various drivers to fix this issue (currently running the new 174.74s). I run in 1920x1200 resolution, all graphics settings maxed out (except for LandGeom).

welcome fellow Cali resident!

I see try setting you graphics shadows to Medium or flat and see if it's that.

How do I do that?

GF_Mastiff 04-28-2008 02:17 AM

launch the game go to hardware setup/ video options and place the light object shadows to medium and landscape shadows to medium.

...and Check that you've selected correct video (NVidia 8XXX) card in il2setup/pfsetup!

I found out the source of the problem in the screenshot I posted above: by dropping Landscape Detail down to Excellent from Perfect, the problem went away. So, somewhere there is a driver and/or DLL conflict.

In the Black Death Track I get 'dancing' reflections off water (clouds, trees, hills).
Same whether Water = 2 or 3
Water is very dark blue on many maps for =2 or =3. In the Black Death Track it is a Blue/Grey.
No noticeable change in frame rates.

My rig:

2 x 160Gb HDD in Raid config

Well all the lines that have NV on them should be = 1, so something is indeed wrong.

In the setup you have to choose Geforce6xxx..9xxx/FX/4/3 so you did that right.

Does your conf.ini look like this under GLPROVIDER and GLPROVIDERS?
Code:

[GLPROVIDER]
GL=Opengl32.dll

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

Also... is it "read only"?
