At least your not on dial-up. I used to pull down Oleg's patches using a 14.4k connection. In some cases it would take several repeated attempts each of which was about eight hours long.

Shadows

1 Attachment(s)
I noticed that, at dusk, a shadow from a building on a hillside, reflected off the peak of the hill and went strait up into the sky. You could fly through it. At some angles it would disappear, then re-appear. I also noticed that same shadow running the opposite direction it should be from the sun.

Well folks I haven't read many reactions, I just know what I think of the patch and its GREAT.

The teams that put the maps together did an unbelievable thing, working for so long on something special. Also the other modifications add to yet more immersion and realism.
As a mission/ DF map builder I see how a map like Slovakia can even change the way players approach the game! The new airfields are very good, offering more possibilities and they also look realistic, even more so than before (maps like Northwest Europe already had a new airfield look&feel) and players love it, specially the grassy square fields.
Flying across the map with this much variation in elevation really adds a dimension to the flying.

If I state stuff about maps, its almost as if that were the only thing that came with 4.09 but thats not true of course. The other changes are very good also! ;)

Just finished a campaign (available at mission 4 today) and the skinners, testers and I know what it means if you build something that is a big project considering we all do that in our spare time.

So from me to the people that made this patch: Thank you very much indeed for adding a dimension, your dedication to quality really shows, you did a fantastic job! 8-)8-)

denbf109 01-02-2008 06:01 PM

4.09 patch is really cool. the slovakia and MTO maps have great scenery. i haven't messed with the water in conf. tho. (ain't got enough puter i think) all the other sims take a back seat to the il2 series:grin:

jurinko 01-02-2008 06:49 PM

@Tinman, those shadows are part of the IL-2 engine, which did not expect objects be set onto steep hills. You can switch off all object shadows except trees by changing the landShadin=3 to landShading=2 in the conf.ini file.

J9 Austin 01-03-2008 11:35 PM

:) Way to go Oleg, trying it right now and thanks for the New Year's Gift:cool:

mango42 01-06-2008 03:37 PM

Oleg, Evgeny et al. Did anyone ever tell you what an amazing team you are?

Thanks once again for yet another free patch to the best flight sim ever.

It says so much not only for your enthusiasm for this genre but also your business ethics.

Thank you also for showing us all just how a computer can be programmed so effectively.

Slovakia

The one thing I've noticed with the Slovakia map is that there is no place available to place an engineered air strip. There is not one patch of level ground (that I can find) to place one. Thats not to say that there aren't any....but I can't find any. Even near the rivers the foliage is too heavy. Unless I want to put a strip up the middle of a river, do I have any other options? I love to build my own bases based on the surrounding scenery. I understand the care that has been taken for realism....but.....but.....I just realized the map won't be changed for me :)

1. Has anyone found level ground without foliage to lay a strip?
2. Is there ANY forecast on the official release date of 4.09?

The maps are absolutely beautiful

Flat area ..

.. can't remember exactly where but I remember flying over a flat piece of mountainous rock that appeared big enough for a strip. Will post the grid if it shows up again.

Aviar 01-08-2008 10:37 PM

"1. Has anyone found level ground without foliage to lay a strip?"

Yes Tinman86.

First, if you don't mind....a little advice. Always look at the readme file for any patch. It will only benefit you...:)

Now, to answer your question. From the Slovakia readme:

Emergency airbases without coded AI landing and spawn points: Drazkovce, Rohozna, Velka Luka.

Locations:

Drazkovce: J-11
Rohozna: P-8
Velka Luka: R-7

EDIT-I found several flat spots in just 5 minutes, so you should be able to also. They were on 'farmland', but large enough for a TEST Airstrip.

Did you try G-12? There is an island surrounded by a river that can hold a TEST Airstrip.

I'm sure you can find more spots if you really try...:)

Anyone know when the final release 4.09 is coming out? I'm new to forums so maybe I'm a little, no, way behind on this.

Friendly_flyer 02-21-2008 12:44 PM

I think they're still amending the graphic glitches.

If you're new at this, you might be better off waiting for the official patch. It should be out soon (OK, Oleg time is a little skewed from the standard time that us normals use, but we will get it .....er.....soon) Seriously, all you'll get are a few maps (as beautiful as they are). It just may not be worth the trouble for you right now.

NickF 04-23-2008 04:42 PM

Thanks for the response, but I figured it out. I'm been installing mods for SH3 and SH4 for a while, though.

THE ERASER 12-03-2008 10:23 PM

Good Day everyone,

I have some bad issue with the HD4870 (Sapphire) in IL-2 with and without version 4.09bm and all available Beta DLLs. have some very disturbed glitches with the Graphic's seen as in here by the screenshot. The first are the rainbowish colour glitch and the second is the blue glowing of the inside (Pit View) and outside of the Plane by firing the weapons or by the sunlight.

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g6...1-28-45-34.jpg

To Reproduce the glitches only play the tracks F4F4 vs. G4M and BlackDeath

To help here is my System with the Problem occurred:

And sorry for the poor English, Swiss Guy ;)

GF_Mastiff 12-05-2008 07:03 AM

I get the same rainbow artifacting.

frenchfly 12-07-2008 03:56 PM

guys change your config.ini and make these 2 settings are set to 0, this worked for me.

TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=0
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=0

frenchfly 12-08-2008 01:14 AM

Changing these settings only got rid of the the weird glow inside the cockpit and outside when firing weapons. I too get the rainbow artifacting more so on the F4F vs G4M track then any other. This is the only game that I get this kind of behavior from this card (4870) which is annoying because I play it more than any other, but in saying this I can also confirm that after playing countless missions I have only got the artifacting a couple of time for only a fraction of a second while in the cockpit. I wonder if this could be addressed by ATI with a driver update.

big wheels 12-08-2008 03:00 AM

thanks merry xmas
