For my trans-atlantic friends;
The grand Ol' Lady Sally B with two of her little friends. Sadly enough one of them was a little later the same day shamelessly a**whipped and failed to return...

A blazing weekend

Visting Duxford this weekend was a blast

To sum it all up:

Friday
1. Two Spitfires mk Xi piloted by McQ59 and Kav takes of from their Norwegian bases, makes a safe landing at Cambridge, debriefs at The Eagle pub.

2. A B17 and a PO2 piloted by Gilly and Jack takes from theire northern british bases, overshoots Cambridge, misses debriefing at The Eagle and makes a hard landing at Davedogs towers in Essex. Pilots ok but severly confused.

Saturday
1. Gilly and Jack gets assisted by Davedog in his Spitfire mmk 14 at his base, manages take of for Duxford where they make a safe landing :-P

2. A Spitfire hits a bump at take off, angles towards the crowd but regains control

3. A Skyraider gets it wrong and is called of formation..

Sunday
1. Gillywing takes off from their new base, Davedogs tower, Has set their compass wrong and ends up at Hendon , therefore misses out on the sunday action at Duxford.

2. Fokker noses over at landing.

3. A Sea Fury tries to land to early and gets called off.

4. The Bearcat overshoots landing.

5. P 51 and Skyraider crashes

6. A blunt and ignorant KAV assults a pilot after the crash and interrogates him about it. The pilot turns out be Stephen Grey.

7. Gillywing takes of from Hendon, yet there is still a compass error and they misses out on the debrief at The Eagle pub once again

Monday
1. The Norwegian Spitfires heads back north/east after having great fun, gotten loads of books (thanks alot Jack) and a Hartmann leather jacket.
Many thanks to you all guys. Great seeing you all again :-P

Edit: One of the norwegian crew crashes at a nearby airfield and spends the night at a nearby B&B they call Hilton. The guys lurking in the Ryanair-tower wasn't up to it this time, so I dodged the sceduled flight...( I will strafe'em on occation, but they are good at hiding!) Returned to base 15 hours late.

If you haven't any good ones of her, I certainly have - I can let people (on the forums :p not strangers) have the large versions of the originals if anyone wants them. :)

Think it's a bit too early to say with certainty that BBD went uncontrollable after the collision which made the pilot jump. Being strongly hit and not knowing the extent of the damage the pilot may have not wanted to wait to find out - he was so low he used his only chance to get out while he could. Even if the controls were still intact he could not be blamed - many pilots died trying to salvage damaged planes which went then uncontrollable during landings.

It's going to be interesting to read the Accident report when it comes out.

Very Gracious view on things...."a simple accident"......WoW.....Man....Thats Cool.

McQ59 07-12-2011 10:07 PM

Thanks MAC. Good post. He was in a real hurry. That's for sure. When I saw the shute open I couldn't really believe he made it. Strange thing is that it wasn't any explotions or smoke... I think I held my breath for a good few secs there. And then the relief as the speaker informed us the pilot had made it out. The speakers last comment was something like this; 'These things happen. This is aviation you know...'

McQ59 07-12-2011 10:12 PM

A cpl for Dale...

thanks Bud...beautiful babes in flight. i will return the favor someday..

that pilot was gracious...extremely gracious. a lesser man would have taken that moment in the spotlight to vent and cast blame or bash.... a true gentleman.

oh just stole this from another forum....a still of the moment of impact. the pony looks pretty small compared to the raider doesnt she?

McQ59 07-12-2011 11:38 PM

The raider is a brute shining brutal power. It's huge and heavy! Nice pic. We're even bud. No worries. You have fed me top notch stuff in loads bro. I got a cpl of more of the Horsemen coming up.
The pilot there is a true officer and a gentleman. That's 4 sure. It was time 'to get proffesional' he said. Well put...

Was more the beautifully executed boom and zoom on myself whilst U2 was climbing into a firing position and subsequent coming together of you both that amused me- doing a Duxford as it's now become known!

Yea that one. It takes knowledge and skills.
Knowledge as in experiencing the Duxford incident.
Skills as in flying a singel seater ;-)

and thx for the curtiss h75 of the "armée de l'air"(french air force),it seems to be a h75 of the "groupe de chasse" II/5(fighter group II/5).1939-1940
this french squadron did one of the best sucess of the battle of france ,the november ,6 1939,27 bf109d of the jgr 102,lead by hptm hannes gentzen, engaged the dogfight with 9 curtiss hawk 75 of the groupe de chasse II/5,the curtiss h75 is better than the 109d and the 9 french pilots were a "experten",at the end of the battle ,5 bf109 d were destoyed sure and 5 others probably destroyed...0 french curtiss were destroyed.
