Bizzare my original post has gone from this thread???????? Anyway again I want to thank all concerned for working all hours to get this up to speed!
|
Thanks Luthier.

My first try was a bit off, was thinking gun1-4 was on same side. Still too much laser to you? http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...er/Tracers.jpg |
A bit OT but since you brought it up:
I tried to equip my spit with tracers to, at least for the four outboard guns. Can you help me how to do it? And also how to use it in quick mission? I saved my customized ammo belt with the name Angepasst. I load this during quick mission (usually only empty or Angepasst available at the quick mission configuration screen). But all that I get seems to be the default belts ... |
Quote:
Yep...The tracers...IF they were more like strings, so thinner if you wish, they would be great...Even the ones who have seen tracers IRL share this opinion...So it will probably be easy to "mod" them a bit ;) Salute ! |
It is very promising
After reading hundreds of posts, and seeing actual FPS of 20 to 30 FPS over land and buildings in low setting with average PCs reported by many players , I have to admit that if Luthier reaches his goals , we are in for a good ride within few weeks:
1. Performance increase. Over terrain, the two things that slow things down the most are trees and buildings. We are currently in final stages of testing optimized buildings that almost double the FPS over London on a test machine. Tree optimization is a little farther away. You will probably see changes in how trees are rendered, they’ll take longer to appear over terrain, but once again, performance increase should be significant. If everything tests correctly over the weekend, both of these should be released by early to mid next week. 2. Enhanced multicore support. The mode that we unfortunately were not able to finish in time is sending all render to a dedicated CPU core. The mode is working but somewhat buggy. It easily doubles the FPS, and the performance boost is especially noticeable in larger missions with lots of stuff going on. So double + double should look good ! And add the SLI in the near future  And maybe 64 bits... Salute ! |
Wow! so fast!
Thank you for the heads up Kalimba ! Looking forward to it !!!! ~S~ |

I have a question, why do not you put a beta release?
Why do not you have warned users of all these problems before they buy the game? I understand that you are working hard on the project and I hope that from next patch the problem is resolved. Thanks |
Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to the development of this game.
|
Thanks for the update.
|
Thanks for the update Luthier. I know there are problems but what you have produced is truly remarkable, especially with such a small team. I can see such huge potential with this so please don't give up.
|
and what about the dedicated server piece?
|
There are still a lot of issues - many which do itch me quite a bit and which need quick fix.
However I also don't want to hide points of satisfaction and astonishment. One of the most outstanding things and of which I cannot get enough: Water modelling over the channel is something unseen before. I am so much at awe when flying over the channel. You outdid yourself with this! |

thanks luthier! Keep on the hard Work, we support you! (btw i'm having the same 3rd point multiplayer issue and have the ubisoft/steam digital download version)
|
:) Luthier ,please take the time you need, don't go making you or your colleagues ill, life is much more important.
Have a break ,it will make you feel better and probably in the long run make the work quicker and more successful. The last thing anyone wants to hear is you or your colleagues have been made ill. If you stick by the resolve to keep perfecting the sim that should be good enough for all here. :) |

I am very disappointed we’ve lost the work you did on the propeller, and I imagine you’re more upset by it, and I’m just going to dream that one day you find a way of working something back into the sim. Thanks again for what’s going to be my favourite game of the next 10 years. |
Thanks for the update Luthier. It's really helpful to know what's going on behind the scenes.
|
Thanks Luthier
I belive you and your team can sort out the problems. You're doing a great job. I have faith to you and your team. But... But what I DON'T get (I really don't understand this, please someone explain this to me!) is: HOW can someone release a game which stutters that much (up to a second every two seconds!) on a fast machine like this: W7 64 i7 X980 GTX 480 12 GB Ram Fast Vertex-SSD-HD with nothing installed except Avira and IL-2 CoD And don't tell me, that you did not see the problems in advance. I'm sure you tested your game. You should have waited with the release the three or four weeks you're now using to correct. Until now I can not play the game at all. I'll give it another try in a few weeks. Until then I'll play the old IL-2 1946 4.101 |

Thank you Luthier.

Thankyou.
This game really looks stunning. Hope things fall into place and you can take a breath. |
I know there is work to be done to ensure the CloD experience is enjoyable for the masses, but for me the CloD has been quite good so far!
I'm running 2600k + 580GTX and I get smooth gameplay at 1920x1200 with medium settings and grass, shadows and roads on. On top of medium I've got Buildings Amount set to unlimited to remove LoD. And I have almost no building popup at all! My only stutters are when starting up a mission (2-5 sec stutter loading the cockpit) and after that it's smooth (40-50 fps) except a drop at big cities like London (10-20 fps) but all the time staying quite playable. Med cities flow without much impact . I've thrown in about 25 or so planes into a quick mission and it has been quite ok experience. Havent' tried that combination over cities yet however. The FPS might have been ok, but I've had to re-learn almost everything I've adopted in previous IL-2's. I thought I was a bit of an ace with previous versions, atleast against AI on ace level. So when I used to take off for a mission thinking how many bandits I would shoot down. With CloD I take off hoping that I can make it back alive. Despite the all negative banter around I have to say that I've had the BEST AI dogfight experiences ever with CloD! I can't wait to learn to handle my crate to perfection and get the engine fixed to allow everyone to participate 128 player battles. I hope the engine will be fixed to a level where more ppl can get same experience as I do! And top that with add-ons from all the fronts and we'll be busy for the next 10 years. ;-) |

Intel 980X OC to 4.1GHz, 6GB of 2000MHz Ripjaws, AMD Sapphire 5970, 256GB A-RAM SSD, Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate My system runs pretty well with every game on the market, yet I cannot play IL2 Cliffs of Dover. Why is it that games are rushed to market and are never actually finished? We pay our hard earned dollars for these games only to received something half finished and in some cases never actually finished (Operation Flashpoint 2 - Dragon Rising ring a bell). I am crossing my fingers that the next patch delivers on some of the promises made here, however I would like to see more support offered towards Multi-GPU and Multi-monitor support. Yes, lets make sure the game runs smoothly first, but then we need to make sure it looks good as well. |
WOW......why are people having such a negative reaction? I too have a fairly good system and have the fps problem, but I am completely calm, I don't mind having spent the money because at some point I would have done it anyway, so it isn't working well for now......so what.......they will fix it, in the mean time play any of the other games you enjoy which had early teething troubles, my life hasn't come to a standstill because COD is buggy for now, but I have to admit I have ended up spending alot of time on this forum, exchanging views and oppinions with a wide variety of wonderfull people.
please people....chill out! have faith that this will be fixed just like every other game (can anyone name a game that never ever needed a patch?) |
Wait the future patch...
wait and see. |
Quote:
1. Well that is interesting, for even if I have terrain turned to LOW I still cannot get playable framerates. Many players have very playable fps as we speak...Your problem, for the moment is your 5970...Since SLI/Xfire give worse performances than a single GPU, your results are not representative of what COD can do now. Those who have SLI configurations had very poor fps...After running the game on a single GPU, their fps doubled... 2. So I can expect my framerate of 9FPS to go to 18FPS, is that an acceptable increase? What sort of multicore support are we talking here? Surely you are adding support for no less then 4 cores considering every man and his dog has at least a average quad core running their system. Read # 1 ...On a single GPU, the average fps reported on many forums are around 25 fps...Double that and we talk about 50 fps....And yes, quad core is what you can get for $250.00 now...That is if you want top performances for a 2011 game with 50 planes in the sky... 4.What about rounds that don't appear to leave at all? I can hear the audible sounds of bullets firing, but there are no visible effects that indicate that you have actually fired your weapons. Unless you selected a ammo belt with every rounds as tracers , you would get , as an exemple, 1 tracer for every 5 rounds..So it is normal to hear shots without seeing each ot them... 5. This is my biggest bugbear. Is it simply SLi support or are you also concentrating your efforts on Crossfire support also? In addition, where is the native support for multi-monitors? More and more people are playing with multiple monitors, yet programmers and developers (such as yourselves) aren't including native support for multiple monitors. This game looks absolutely terrible with multiple monitors, with the cockpit being all blown up and enlarged. It would be great if we could see multi-monitor support included by the developers rather then the likes of individuals and groups such as the Widescreen Gaming Forum. It's funny, my 5970 will chew through Crysis pretty well with 3 monitors, yet it cannot handle Cliffs of Dover, struggling to achieve 9FPS with all setting on either medium or low. Read the above...It will be fixed... Salute ! |
Ffb
At first thank you for the fast patch and the hard work you and the team are investing in this game.
Its nice to see, you hear the community and try to please us with the changes you are goning to made. I've got no problems to lower my graphics to run the game in a smooth and lookable way. Also the center spring bug from my G940 is not a problem. But I think, I need a little statement about Force Feedback. It is really dissapionting for many people (including me) to see (and feel) you didn't include Force Feedback in CloD. It's a feature which not only raises the immersion and the feeling, it gives you a really good feedback, what your machine is going to do in the next moments. It's something a flight simulator needs to have in 2011. In my case, I bought the G940 ONLY because of FFB and CloD (after I've had heared FFB will be implemented) Some rumors appear in the forums that you will not add FFB in the near future or that you are going to never add it into CloD. But when it was never planned to include FFB, why we got the line "FF=1" in our conf.ini - or does it mean something else?? CloD has the potential to grow up to the best WW2 - flight simulator ever, but never without FFB. Please, give us an official statement about the future of CloD. Thanks a lot Licher |

You can not imagine why there are the negative reactions?
Do you have a loss of reality? The game was released too early! I don´t say, that's the fault of 1C. Rather, I see the problem at Ubi. I just hope that the IL2 series will not become a total loss. Ubi has done it already in Silent Hunter 5, ruining the series. Somehow CoD is actually the same, as if I buy a new car, that the first year only runs in first gear and I can only enter through the window. |
No...No loss of reality, just find it hard to imagine that people 'need' so badly to complain in this manner, if people are so dubious about UBI or 1C products already why oh why did they buy the latest game immediately on release, if I had a hunch a company was creating bad products I would have done some research before I made my purchase, but instead some people are writing posts with utter condemnation because they feel cheated and robbed etc.....nobody puts a gun to your head to buy this stuff......seriously

[QUOTE=luthier;247765]Hi everyone. I’m very sorry to see that some of you are having technical difficulties with the game. It pains me personally to see that these problems are preventing you from enjoying everything the game has to offer. [End quote]
I'm sure you are pained Luthier. And so are we. But you should also be totally embarrassed. [Quote] The team has been working at a frantic pace since mid-summer. I personally have been working 12+ hour days 7 days a week pretty much non-stop, with only a short breather around Christmas. Optimization has always been our top priority; for example, the game you are playing now is roughly twice as fast as the version shown at Igromir. [End quote] Which begs the question: why are you working 'at a frantic pace' after 7 years? Clearly because this project has been moved on and off the back burner so many times as more lucrative work came in that no one has managed - understandably - to keep control of it. But to have basic elements such as the mixture and radiator control ass about face is just unforgivable. [Quote] We are continuing to work at the same pace now, after the release – no weekends in sight. We are working very hard to make the game better, and we hope that even those of you who are unhappy with the state of the game are still able to see that it is worth the wait, and that you have faith in Quote:

Imho
Its been 6 years...6 years of high hopes and hype about the wondeful IL2 successor...And Oleg has allways took pride in remindind us : IL2 is the best...Even by 2011 standards...And SOW will be 10 times better ! You'll see !
Its not that Oleg and team owes anything to anyone, but they created so much hype and high expectations by their own means, that when COD came out so much broken and unfinished,( wathever the reasons), it was a double negative effect... 6 months ago we have seen things like "pilot bail" and "waves on the beach" animations, highly realistic gauge "glass" reflections in cockpits, high quality smoke rendering, etc, so we all assumed it would make the first release since they were apparently on schedule and no sign of real problems in the horizon...And remember Oleg promise: It will be very close to photorealistic... I am confident we will get all that someday ...But 1C is responsible for the worldwide disapointement they are now trying to overcome....But I personnaly have faith in Luthier... Salute ! |

Can you not live with the fact that there are other opinions? |
LOL! force everyone to my oppinion, all I am doing is countering all the petty complaining that is going on, I have no power to force anyone to do anything, I can live with oppinions that are well reasoned like Kalimbas post above, it's not a pathetic attack on anyone like the die hard haters I have seen here.
|
For whatever reason/s Cliffs of Dover was released before it was ready and I understand the disappointment, but get a grip. You know that the developers are going to do whatever it takes to get it fixed and add features. Show a modicum of foresight.
|
My own opinion on the roadmap is performance optimizations and hardware support first (I can't use most of my gear and despite high end computer it is absolutely unplayable: 5-30fps no matter what circumstances). Correcting or producing new content, interface etc should be low priority.
I support you, devs. I bought the game despite knowledge of the many problems (as soon as the epilepsy policy was changed). I have faith in that you will patch the hull and work it into something very special. I want you guys to take care of yourself foremost. Otherwise, you will burn out, with a sense of distress by even hearing the name "Cliffs of Dover" because of all the bad associations. Exercise: There is a sweet spot where one gets huge benefits with the least effort, around 30 minutes of aerobic activity. This can be a brisk walk or a jog, depending on your physical condition. Biking. Swimming. Do it every day or every two days. Trust me on this, it gives enormous benefits to concentration, sleep, lowers anxiety by a large amount, feel much more awake & happy. SLEEP 7-9 hours every day. Eat regularly: no more than 2-3 hours between ingesting something; this is blood glucose levels. Take many breaks away from work (even if small) and do something totally unrelated to the game for at least several hours each day. Don't bring work home. Take at least a full day off per week where the game isn't even allowed to be mentioned. And when working on it, try to think of the things you enjoy about your job. Make it fun, not unpleasant pressure & stress. In the end, everyone will do a better job and be much happier doing it. :) Sacrificing health & sleep is not something that helps productivity in the long term, because even if one spends more time on work, one performs so much worse, while feeling like crap. |

12 hr days.... 7 days a week... I am as impatient as the next guy but that is ridiculous.
I think you need to step away from the keyboard and all have a break.... yes there are bugs but a tired bunch of workers helps no-one. I know when I become task fixated that the best thing to do is usually step back and have a break, I usually find the subconscious still works a solution anyway.. The bugs will still be there when you get back...:-P |
Thank you for the update.
It is great to see someone from the development team taking the time to communicate with those who have purchased the game rather than a faceless public relations droid as too often happens in the gaming world. I look forward to seeing the updates. |
Thanks, it's appreciated.
Looking forward to getting into the game at some point to see what everyone else is talking about! Stick with it, mate. R |
Hi Luthier and thanks for keeping us up-to-date with developement progresses for next patch !! Everyone really looking forward for it.
Anyway, i just want to report that there are some minor translation problems in the Italian language version (obviously not an high priority, first come the "Critical" Issues). If there's a way that me (and my virtual wing members) can help fixing those minor translation errors, just let me know (PM or Mail me). We really want to give an hand to devs, contrary to that piece of customers that only can complain about issues. Once again, thank you for your awesome work ! S! |
So when is the next bug-fixing patch coming?
|
Thank you for this info and all hard work.
One question about this ""double the FPS over London on a test machine"" What are this test machine specs? (would be good to compare i think) |
Quote:
This is also important to me as the "double FPS" effect of this fix will obviously not apply to all hardware. Knowing the spec of the Test Machine would be a big help to estimate what performance increase this change may give me personally. |
I'm really surprised everybody is so "cool". I'd rather have him post a link with a site where I can return my copy + cdkey to Steam and get my money back.

im shure you guys will improve this game as needed... if you talk about SLI support i guess you also mean Crossfire for the ATI users!? well i do hope so, cuz i just ordered my 2nd XFX 5850 cuz of CoD  |

Well other games have been premature also for instance f1 2010 wich was patched quick and dirty by Code masters.
And thats the only patch they did. The il2 range has a history of patches updates and freebies. This makse me a believer in these guys for me they have to prove that they abandon this sim first before i blevieve they will. So they have stood firm in the past I for one believe that they will do so in the future. Furthermore the sim is, in its current form, not even half bad. On my hardware this thing runs almost smootly :) Niels |
great news
thank god thier fixing thier problems

Thank you.
I guess not getting our release until last has been a good thing, everything should be ready to roll april 19th. That was also a very smart move on Ubisoft's part as well, considering that over 50% of the belly achers live just west of Greenland here. ;^) |
@bongodriver
bongodriver,
its strange but I can find neither my post or the one you made that was notified to me by email: bongodriver has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to.......... Here is the message that has just been posted: *************** I had to check it wasn't me you were talking about (although I susspect I am gaining a somewhat negative reputation) but even I (apparent troll) don't agree with banning anyone for anything written on this thread. *************** I did Quote your post which gave your opinion of his comments because it contained an element of his post which had been removed. I've seen some of your threads, I don't class you as a Troll, like me you post +ves and -ves. The games not right. It will get fixed. I'm happy enough for now. But 'they' (who?) shouldn't have banned him. |
Youre quite right, i guess some things were found necessary to censor, perhaps for the best

Thanks for your continued hard work. |
I would like to say thank you for this awesome simulation. It is not yet finished which is a bit itching me too like so many others but yet I think we can already foresee that this sim will have a great future.
Still there are a lot of graphic bugs in it (also please work over the "fog of war" which is really grgrgr and also textures for middle distances) but some features are simply stunning and I am looking forward to see this game led to its full potential. |
Nice to read a official statement about the problems with the game.
I noticed that there are one or two people who can actually play the game reasonally well, but most people like myself can't play it at all. I know that releasing a pc game without any bugs is impossible, but I still wonder why this game was not tested on a larger amount of different pc's. There could have been a beta testing programme or something like that. In my line of work I cannot afford to make mistakes or cut corners because peoples lives depend on what we produce, so we test and test and test over and over again. So yes I know what it is like to be under pressure and how it feels like to work 7 days a week for months at a time just to finish the project. Oleg and crew have my respect for the hard work. Many gaming companies will ignore all the complaints about a buggy game or release just one patch and leave it at that. And some simply close the forums where al the complaining customers are screaming for a working game. No worries about that over here, sure many people are screaming for a patch but can you really blame them? Please people try not to call every complainer a whiner or a troll, spending >50,- euros on a game that does not work is a good cause for at least some form of anger. I will wait for the patch, I will give Oleg and crew the opportunity to fix the game for us and wish them the best of luck with that. I'll be back in a few months time to get the patch. |
Quote:
You are completely correct. It is nigh impossible for a game to released without a bug or two, however 1C Company has let the community down in a big way. It is quite obvious that this game didn't have the attention to detail put in prior to release or it would have been delayed in it's release if that was the case. I have to question the developers and distributors as to their responsibility to actually deliver a working product! In fact I believe that they should be liable for delivering a game which does not work as promised, as is the case with Cliffs of Dover. If you buy a dodgy product at a retail store then you are entitled to a complete refund, however when you buy a game like this through Steam you appear to be entitled to nothing. I can't wait for the patch to be released, so I can enjoy my purchase with my hard earned money, however more emphasis should be placed on delivering a workable game from day one, not a week or so after the actual release and after you already have peoples money! |
Quote:
|
@David Hayward - I bought the game the day it was released, based on the fact that I have every other iteration of IL2! So no, they wouldn't have had my money as I wouldn't have bought the game if it had been delayed, for I don't believe in pre-orders.
I bought the game the day it was released in Aus and have been greatly disappointed since. I have since downloaded the patch via Steam today and it has failed to fix any of the problems I am having. It is people like you David that give developers an open door to delivery a shoddy game and attempt to patch it after it is released. There is no emphasis on delivering a workable game on release day, for they know that they will get their money and will patch the problems at a later date. We have the right to get what we pay for and what the developers claim the game to be. The game still runs like a pig. It makes no difference whether I am playing in Eyefinity (3 x monitors) or whether I run it in 1920 x 1080. The game still chugs along at 9FPS and is unplayable. This patch that was released has done absolutely nothing to fix the errors with playable framerates. I have set everything to low, despite having a grunty system it has made no difference. |

feature for the roadmap
dear developers,
I hate to add to your already flooded schedules, but i would like to kindly request Force Feedback support to be added at some stage to the roadmap. please forgive me if this has already been raised and acknowledged in this thread, in which case consider this a +1 :) i dont have the bandwidth to go through the 11 pages as i'm traveling through asia at the moment. i'm such a fan I even bought a new laptop in malaysia and a logitech FFB stick to play this game while i'm out here! I love the work you guys have done so far and your commitment to the community with regular updates on issues. again please understand i'm not demanding for FFB NOW but at some point in the roapmap when the main issues have been addressed. |

You need to accept the basic limitations that are practically a given for a flight sim like this: 1) Lack of funding, meaning a small development team and a long time to develop. 2) The possibility the developers will be short of money and pressured to release the game before it's ready, leading to a buggy release. 3) The fact that this sim is a lot more demanding on hardware than your basic shoot 'em up. I don't even know where to start when explaining how complex this game is, it's crazy stuff. What we have got has the potential to be amazing and without rival. If that's what you're after, great, support the game and the developers. If you think we're all sad geeks (well, we are) and you think the world would be better if we stopped playing games, carry on with your whining, great job. |
Keep up the good work gents! Six months from now you'll be basking in the glory of having produced another flight sim phenomenon, and the criticism of the last week will be a vague and distant memory whilst you're enjoying some well earned R&R.:)

There is a huge difference between Sony and CoD. Sony has competition. CoD does not. BTW, I love RoF. I think it would be great if 777 made a WW2 sim. But, considering the debut of RoF, their WW2 sim would probably be no better than CoD at release. Quote:
