Yeah Haitches is very tight but I had fun going under those bridges down there. There are lots of side rivers down that track though so would need to mark the route with some crashes. I will see If I can map it out with a screengrab.

Winnys dover route is great, once you take off from Hawkinge there is a valley with a pathway that leads you straight to Dover. Lighthouse turns add some good action. After the route Winny showed we made our way up to Manston, landed, then returned. Lots of opportunity for some overtaking down the white cliffs straight.

I had a crack at tracing that route Haitch. I used Google maps cos my USB stick isnt recongised by my PS3 either

Ok we tried Stalingrad track in realistic. It was me (ta) subarugaz (spit vi) gilly (la7) and mcq (k4). First off the planes fly half speed in realistic as they do in arcade so it was a chore flying to mark the course. Once we had done that and managed to get lined up we started test lap.
Gaz took an early lead off the line so I shot him down before the turn onto the don. I managed to get a good turn out and started down the main straight in the lead until about half a click when mcq shot me down. I looped down into 4th place and gilly and mcq took off. For a time it was two seperate races, me vs gaz and gilly vs mcq. I managed to get in front of gaz but he must have got a lucky engine shot as I started to leak speed. Made it round half the course until my engine gave out and I hit the deck. Gilly won convincingly but the finish line turned into a wrecking zone and I think I managed third when gaz crashed on landing.
Major issue for me is respawning. When my engine died I was a good 10 clicks behind but I was spawned up in the mix. I think it defeats idea of deathrace if you retire when crash or shot so open to ideas on it. I looped down into last place when I was taken out but it can make it unfair if you prosper from engine failure

ok then my solutions

1. have 2 race refs in jets and they mark out the course
2. if you get shot down or bail out you should have a penalty such as a forced landing or something

almost not quite though as my route takes some of the smaller rivers not even on that map the rout in general is vaux-sur-sure to ettlebruke

Spitfire23 02-19-2010 07:18 AM

Can't wait to get this Deathrace thing underway, That night with wookie, Gilly and McQ was excellent.

Kinda felt bad for Wookie though as i just nibbled at his plane until i noticed a drop in speed. once the First person had touched down, Chaos ensued.

Great laugh though, i'm assuming during these deathraces we will all be taking the same Plane?

dkwookie 02-19-2010 03:00 PM

I am going to set up a race tonight at 11pm uk time if anyone wants to join. I reckon it will be winter Stalingrad race on realistic settings. Any prop plane allowed. Look in realistic dogfights at 11 for my session

it's a date. I've caved into peer presure and bought AvP so I'll be on there earlier no doubt.

haitch40 02-20-2010 09:51 AM

we should make this into a tourny

dkwookie 02-20-2010 10:00 AM

We had a couple of good races last night. We had a 5 man race on the Dover course. Me, gilly, winny, mckinney and fight test. We all used the same plane, spit 2, which really made things better as we were grouped together. The outbound leg hawkinge to manston went through with no gunfire but on the return leg we opened up. Some lovely kills down the White cliffs and we were still quite close on the final straight. I rembered from last time to slow and get gear down in plenty of time to land. The guys in front of me overshot landing and I thought I had it in the bag but I was shit down by mckinney just as I was about to land. Mckinney then landed and won race.
Second race was 6 man run around Stalingrad river. That was all done in 109 g6s. Some nice photos taken of the planes on start line. This race got strung out a bit but and fight test, who was in the lead, went down wrong river near the end. Turns out that some of our crash marks had disappeared. Looks like the game can only handle so many smoke stacks. The finish line turned into a scramble but scotty won comfortably in the end.

Good fun guys, thanks for playing

yeah it was great fun haha i was just brave at the line Gilly was really close and i slipped past him bout 0.4 of a km to the bridge lollol it wont be often that happens, still finding my feet (i feel anyways) with the game, but enjoying realistic :o

thanks for the game :)

Looking forward to get online and into my Spit in the weekend.

Thanks for posting the pics.

haitch40 02-20-2010 04:26 PM

we realy should make a tourny outa this like the dogfighting tornys

CRANNY 02-20-2010 05:40 PM

Great string Gents, I wil be checking these tracks out, beautiful screen shots! We definateky need to set up the B-17 ref and a tourny.

scottyvt4 02-20-2010 05:53 PM

cracking pics as usual Gilly!

how you putting the on here, you uploading them to photobucket from the ps3??

dkwookie 02-20-2010 07:20 PM

Amazing pics gilly! That 109 start line shot is worth printing and framing. Love the one of me biting the dust too.
We would def need a ref if we turn these serious. Really main problem is making sure anyone who gets shot drops back in last spot.

Gilly 02-21-2010 02:42 AM

Few more from tonights racing- cheers guys! even if we did discover a fatal (quite literally) mistake in test running blenhiems- landing at hawkinge becomes even more fun due to auto-gunners!!!

Nice landing dk!

Spitfire23 02-21-2010 08:22 AM

Wow, those pics really are worth framing as Wookie said.

Have the Deathraces officially started now? or you guys still testing?

KAV 02-21-2010 09:08 AM

Nice picks.
Think I am in one of them, like a cloud of black smoke from one of my many failed landings

Hopefully I will be able to join without lag and connection errors tonight.

haitch40 02-21-2010 09:08 AM

should call this the il2 bop grandprix

f1rebrand 02-21-2010 09:23 AM

Some interesting aerial images of Dover harbour and the chain home radar which still stands today. There were four radar towers originally.

Nice pics Gilly..

Next time we do this I'd like to get everyone up high in line abreast and get some pics..

Has anyone done any formation flying on PS3 yet?

scottyvt4 02-21-2010 10:54 AM

i had landing troubles the other night and you're asking for formation flying :eek: haha

Yeah, quite afew guys from the forums got together the once to do some good old Formation flying, it went pretty well too.

Also me and Trk did some prior to that event, here's the link to some of the photos http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthr...t=10473&page=6

There are more pics from our formation flight elsewhere on the forum, can't seem to find them though

Gilly 02-22-2010 08:57 AM

If anyone wants a reccy at any of the courses we currently have then drop me a note and I'll happily provide a tour. I think the Stalingrad on is fairly straight forward whereas winnys Dover map does require slightly more thought.

I'm always in for a race. I'd love to spend some time rec'ing a Berlin/ Ardennes course as well.

Have ya'll tried finding a spot for a short course with multiple laps? Perhaps a figure 8 course around the Dover dock for some biplane (i153/po2) racing?

Now thats an idea. We could use the Dover harbour section of Winnys course for that. Round the castle, down and round lighthouses in I153s would be cool. I think we found a legitimate use for the 153 at last

I'll let nubz know then ;) He can ram the lighthouses to his heart's content.

McQ59 02-24-2010 01:41 PM

Just loved the flights last night! It was cool to see 8 spits lined up before take-off, and fly down the valley and try to find my place in the wing. It wasn't that succesfull though... Crashing with dk down by the radarstation (my own fault, I took a short-cut through the radarmasts there... Sorry dk!) told me that we have to agree on a formation, and try our best to keep it. No wonder the guys of ww2 used weeks of training just to accomplish that... It would be cool to finally make it the hole way to Manston not loosing one plane. And then the deathrace with cannons blasting back! (My God... This game will kill my mind!)

The section afterwards with bombers, both in Dogfight and Strike, where supercool too. Only one thing... I got a bit confused when a couple of 109 opened up on the He-111, and a hurry opened up on my spit. But, summed up: Great fun guys!

It was bit hectic, running away from all the little baddies. It was a shame that most of the group lost the historic flavor of the match.

trk29 02-28-2010 12:04 PM

Yes this would be fun, but without guns.

dkwookie 02-28-2010 12:21 PM

Been thinking about guns and after watching the biatholon in the olympics I think it would be cool to run a race without guns then have a dogfight or bombing contest at the end. Would need an umpire to judge bombing acuracy I reckon.
Also gilly has a very nice trench run worked out round the Berlin rivers. Lots of bridges and building lined stretches

Gilly 03-19-2010 11:07 AM

As we haven't had a race for a while I was thinking of suggesting one tonight or over the weekend? I'm just canvassing opinion as to whether anyone fancies it?

And what about arranging some photoshoot ?
One flying photographer and some other dogfighting, burning, crashing, doing acrobatics etc ?

Sorry guys. I haven't given up on BoP I'm just too damn busy trying to clear a mountain of freelance work.

See you in the skies soon.

Fire.

Gilly 03-19-2010 12:08 PM

Well I'll be on from 7 GMT tonight and then tomorrow during day I'm around after about 1 till 5 then after 7. Sunday I'm on from anytime. I suggest I start one at around 10pm tonight. My PSN is on the realistic player list if anyone wants to join us. I suggest we do Winnys Dover circuit first off. If anyone doesn't know it the map is posted earlier in this thread, that said just join in and you'll easily pick it up!
Good idea Kav about the 'photo' flying. We still haven't done a B17 formation so wouldn't mind a few shots of that. I'd also like to try and get some dogfighting ones. Have tried over the past couple of nights but get my arse shot off in the process so agree I'd need to be 'neutral' to be able to really get some good ones.

I've got some of the Hurri's and a couple of good ones from the B17/ M262's.
I'll get them up when I get 5. I'm pretty sure McKinney will have a good few too

KAV 03-22-2010 08:39 AM

Cool, cant wait.
Pitty I couldnt join the B17 / ME 262 flight.

I got some pics of the Hurrys but just havent had time to upload them.....

Shadowcorp 03-22-2010 01:44 PM

i was cool

though i didn't get any picts of me and mcq in formation. Still nice to see the 262 doing what it was designed too own bombers.... and 153s lol

That would depend on where you were looking from.. actually it looked pretty good from where I was sat, inside a very on fire B-17. There was a point where you and Mcq flew down in between me and Gilly at very high speed and it looked really old school.. It was at this point I noticed one of my wings had come off... again..

Sad to say winny I have on photo the very moment McQ flamed you and whilst it's a great photo what really suprised me was the speed and effciency that they could take a 17 down! I was watching thinking oh bollox I'm gone next. Got to admit I was fairly confident that we'd have the upper hand when it came to shooting the jetset...... How wrong I was. Still I've some nice shots from the odd minute that we were all still intact!!

McQ59 03-23-2010 09:03 AM

Yeah... That was one cool mission! The 262's really performs as "he-111" when used as they where designed for. To form up and dive full throttle down at the B-17's, closing in rolling, while guns blasting, was one beautifull treat. And seeing the bombers ignite was just the sight to make my night. That 262 is actually fast!
I guess the clue is to use the planes as they were intented to and were disigned for, as Shadowcorp says. Pitty though that the ammo were limited...

A very nice mission guys!

Gilly 04-09-2010 11:35 PM

I'm canvassing opinion as to whether it's worth running a race tonight at 11pm gmt. We'll do Winnys Hawkinge, Dover to Manston route ( see map earlier in the thread if you don't know it). Let me know if anyone's up for it and I'll post here if there's enough interest.

Will run Winny's Dover circuit- see earlier in this thread for map although you can soon learn the circuit when flying.
