Yeah, this bothered me, too. I liked in IL-2 just flying around and landing anywhere there was enough room. It also made it more fun after a mission where you're all shot up, being able to lose the landing gear, have the propellor break off, and come sliding to a stop next to the runway, but still survive.

In a game where they seem to have made some compromises to make it easier since people will be crying how hard Sim mode is, it seems strange to actually make landing unrealistically more difficult. I was wondering if this was maybe put in to cover up damage modelling not being that accurate or something.

i only pointed this out because the developers said it was based on the il-2 damage model, so i persumed i would see these things that is all. the planes either go down in a ball of flames or a wing comes off and it crashes.

i havent seen alierons, rudders & elevator parts, landing gear or wingtips come off yet, but maybe i need to play more. are the damage models different for each difficulty level?

the rest of the game is beautiful and plays well, im only concerned with this aspect.

I have shot the tail off of the 109 and the 190. Hasn't happened on the 111, but then again I attack by diving down, then up from below and I'm usually leading the bombers, or I aim for the engines if I miscalculate.

But yeah, tails seem to go flying with a well placed(or accidental ) shot.

I have even broken off my landing gear and have done prop strikes for fun.

Maybe this is just a campaign feature to keep the game moving. It sounds like there are some differences between campaign, multi, and even the single mission mode. Maybe this is one of them?

Also if you try to land on water right when you touch it your plane immediatly sinks.

I've shot off the rudder on the bombers. They did say the damage model is different from Arcade to Sim. You shoot them down too fast in arcade mode to see much damage.

I have skid across the water before and even bounced out LOL! But that was only because I was trying(I crashed lots of times to accomplish this).

The other thing I didn't like was how the camera zoomed out when I bailed and when I crashed or crash landed. And I was wondering why we are offered a bailout option when we automatically(which I don't like) bail out moments after an accident.

I'm hoping this is only because it's campaign and because the demo came with limited features.

When I got shot down in simulater mode it didnt make me immediatly bail out. I was just in my plane while it was about to crash and I had to pause and select Bail Out to get out of the plane.

It did it to me when I collided with a He-111 when my canopy got sprayed with oil.

But let's hope single player and free flight work differently.

I hope in the the game you have to bail out on your own and you cant do it below a certain altitude or else you'll hit the ground and die.
