I agree with Thunderbolt..

Alpha that rig looks decent... I mena if you wanted to upgrade just for PCIE.. it is doable.. especially since you aren't struck looking for a 939 mobo like I was.. You said that movie was made with the 4600? Why not the 7800?

In any case.. you shoyuld be able to get a better PCIE card for @ 2 yards.

Just a point of reference, here is the water in Silent Hunter IV.

I didn't make a newer 7800 movie because the water looks the same as with the 4600, the 4600 wouldn't handle the v4.09b1m with increased distance and the towns etc, the 7800gs is the GLH version (Goes Like Hell) and it obviously out performs the previous 2 cards I had, but the water remains the same, which is why I was asking if ATI produces the same water effects I have with the Nvidia cards past and present.

This system is over 3 years old now and I always upgrade every 3 years as a matter of course, just that this time I wanted to "see" some ATI v Nvidia action regarding the water effects, some screen shots or film clip would be a great help to me.
If there's no visible difference between the new cards it opens up a lot more choices and price ranges.

does that mean it doesn't escape them then... in an ironic way ?

Version 4.08m

Water = 4

BFG Nvidia 7800GS OC AGP
Intel P4 3.0gig on Abit IC7G board
2 gigs Mushkin Level1 Black ram.

Not too shabby for an older machine IMHO.
