Hope these terms are of use.
Cobber - your friend, as in "Howz it goin' Cobber?" Drongo - simpleton, lacking in intelegence, as in "I aint gona hang aound you drongoes no more" Crikey - an expression of surprise, as in "Crikey! That stingray just got me!" Strewth - An expression of surprise, as in "Strewth! I didn't know a drongo like you could write!" Sheila - A female, as in "Cop the over hang on that Sheila!" Mate - has many meanings as in your friend (see cobber), your enemy as in "Listen mate, get yer eyes off my shiela", Someone you've just met as in "Hey mate, When can a bloke get a root around here?" Root - to foricate. Ooop! Sorry, you're trying to improve your English, not your Australian! :) |
:) Isn't "brace yourself Sheila " Australian foreplay

Having a talk radio playing in the background all day long helps pronunciation a lot from my experience. In a couple of months you get a natural feel of the language without any extra time spent.
A nice and free radio player http://www.radiosure.com/downloadz/ |
