Thanks Brahim.
It won't be too much longer now.:) |
Farber... Take a look at this pic and tell me that they are the same "colour".
Maybe this is the proof we need? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...d-1940-011.jpg Not the same plane, I know.. but, they don't look the same, and the plane is from the same squadron. I took the photo and took a colour sample of both the number, and the dash. This is what "colour" each one came out as.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/JG26_EZ/2-.jpg Your thoughts.. ? |
Maybe the aircraft recieved a new number and the number paint is fresher?
Maybe they got aircraft from a red numbered squadron - who knows? We really just need colour photo's I think, but I have never found any. |

Maybe they got aircraft from a red numbered squadron - who knows? Are there any other Staffeln in the Luftwaffe that have a different coloured number to their bar? We really just need colour photo's I think, but I have never found any. |
I think it's the sun making them appear different. The Germans were a bit more particular about markings than the RAF.

My opinion...
I don't think it's a new number (absolutely no evidence of the last number is present). I think if they were going to refresh the codes' paint, they'd refresh it all at the same time they had the paint out. I don't think it's the sun (the right side of the bar that is in the shade, still isn't as dark as the number). But... If it can't be proven either way, I guess it all boils down to what you and the rest of the 5./JG27 boys think/want, as really, you guys are now the "new 5./JG27" members (and keeping in mind that your group will probably spend more flight hours than the old 5./JG27 members put in) |
There was an old 5./JG27? - Or you mean the Luftwaffe?
I dont know, in my heart I think its black and black but I have zero proof... :-P |
Sorry for the confusion. I meant the real 5./JG27, and today's "real" 5./JG27 :)
Alright, I'll change it over to black and black until we see better proof that it was red. |
Well' I'd love to find the answer! Weve been going about 3 years or so but never found a conclusion so we took the Luftwaffe rule of black and black...
