I have this in my RCU file so I only have to type "on" or "off" in the console.
This still works.

@set fast off
@set echo on
@set alias on
@set history 20

@alias a alias
@a h history
@a s show

@a on fps START SHOW
@a off fps STOP HIDE

Tanker21, why don't you use ATI tray tools seeing you have an ATI card. I use the EVGA precision tool (Nvidia support tool ) and it shows all on screen. The Tray tools I believe does a similar job for Radeon users. You can have it launch with the game.
Here's a link that may help you.

This still requires opening the console to display the frame rate as I read your post. Initially it was a mod who posted adding @fps START SHOW to display the frame rate immediately entering the game w/o having to open the console. The post was 2011 time frame as best I can remember but I haven't been able to find the post (search).

EDIT: Found it. Page 3 of the FAQ stickey, post by 335th GRAthos dated 7/23/2011 (about 5 posts down). Make sure to edit the rcu file IN THE DOCUMENTS IL2 STURMOVIK folder (which is what I didn't do as reason why it didn't work) and NOT the Steamapps\Common\IL2 folder and add @ fps START SHOW which will automatically display the frame rate on game start.

There is an intro movie?
All I get is a 1C splash screen?
Same here?
What's the secret?

I could be totally wrong here, but I believe the reference to an intro movie is actually the ubisoft 'logo.wmv'.
This has previously been responsible for keeping ATI cards in 'first gear'!
