Wasn't the P51D rated at 442mph at 26,000 feet with WEP? And the H was around 490mph I believe. K is not faster.

my favorite is the F too.

but the E looks sexy too. Its all about tastes, some like the Emil, some the kurfurst.... believe it or not, some consider the spitfire sexy

I don't think the H ever saw action in WWII.

No the P-51H never saw combat. But don't forget the P-47M that did, doing so at over 470 mph in the hands of the highly experienced 56thFG.

Yeah thats right but it consumed much fuel and had engine troubles. Engines often stopped in flight because cylinder temperatures where to low wich was never a problem previously.
Squadron Signal 1208 (Larry Davis)

About the P-51H it was never used in combat, they wanted to make an lighter aircraft wich could

The P-51H was North American´s answer to an Army Air Forces requirement for a lightweight fighter design with a better rate of climb to match the German Me 109 an FW 190. SS 1211 (Larry Davis)

At the end the H fully loaded was only 600 pounds lighter than the P-51D but this made a difference in speed, it reached 487 mph.

Richie,

i like the 109G-10 and the 109K-4 much more than the earlier variants. (this is my opinion). I like that powerful design. The coverd engine bulges too.:-P

Another warbird. From the cockpit instruments its definitley a K-4.

That's good to know. I wonder if it's being restored to flight or not. Ks had bigger wheels and a touch wider foundation for the gear so they probably were a little less hairy on the ground. Plus the long tail wheel made for a little better vision. Like I said so hard to find pictures of Ks.
