You've started it... And yes, if I want quick action, a bit of sweat and swering in front of my screen i will choose my old friends yak3p, spitfire 1942, or zero. I also fly i16 with my mates, f4 or g4 on different servers, and even p11 in strange "all in p11 furballs". I also fly a20, b25, heinkels, junkers, il2 in dive, level, torpedo missions. I try to do it all, to learn it all. "Brick" players do not only diive and run, some of them also have skills and can move the plane in amazing ways. Find them at the right altitude and you will ve surprised even with your spitt. I have nothing against a turn-and-burn fight. I'm just saying the last chapter and the most challenging is master the "bricks".

As mentioned before there are several things you can do but basically it depends upon the situation. Dog Fighting if you will has so many variables so it's dependant on the situation. There are no WRONG moves either.

In short you have to create Gun Solution Problems for your opponent and it's dependent upon how far away he/she is.

Let’s assume he is in weapons range. You need to not sit there and allow him to pound you. A common tactic is a scissors which is essentially getting him out of phase with you. Quite simple put getting your wings out of alignment and pulling or unloading is the first move if you will. The rest can be up to you. Some planes like the FW have excellent roll and they can use that to their advantage by combining a simple Scissors move to a Rolling Scissors. These are last ditch efforts btw and yes you should be screaming to get help. Also forcing the fight towards friendlies (Drag) is a good idea as well.

Sometimes we are just forced to fight. The idea behind the Scissors is to force some sort of overshoot but there is a cost and that's energy. It may be your plane has better acceleration so again it puts you in the driver’s seat for the fight.

Like someone mentioned. Diving is also another move to better gain separation and put him out of weapons range.

The list goes on and on.

But most evasions depend on two things;
1-type of enemy approach
2-aircraft you're flying

Open your speedbrakes, and they'll fly right by.....
(Well according to Tom Cruise it will work...)

Well my two cents not beeing an ace of any kind (and really rusty right now waiting for inforamtion about BoB ;))... When in a dogfight I realize that you seldom think to much but just "go with the flow". Still - I think that this is what I use most in a dogfight with evenly matched turn 'n burners:

Beeing chased by some less experienced pilot I find the scissors rather good (matched alternating hard turns in opposing directions). If you are low on e anyway, chop the throttle hard and make him overshoot you at the right moment. Then climb rather fast (to keep manouverability) in the opposite direction as you will never catch him (beeing low on e) and turn around after a while for the inevitable head on pass as he will swear and come back at you. Resist the head on chicken race, get some horizontal separation and and do the normal "turn into him before merge" to gain the upper hand etc... Resist pulling to hard if possible as he/she probably has an energy advantage - for "this round" ;)

Beeing chased by some more experienced pilot in an evenly matched plane I find that doing rather "soft" course alterations for while the best option if there is some distance between you (to not present an easy target while keeping the energy up). Then at the right moment when the persuer is a bit "off track" a sudden hard turn at maximum G hoping that he/she does not understand immediately that you are not conservning energy any more... After that trying to get back on his/her six as the "lock" is hopefully broken...
