I suspect that's only true when the non-native res isn't an exact division of the full res, eg I suspect that 800 x 600 would work pretty nicely on my 1600 x 1200, because the res is exactly half, so it can be exactly one pixel per a 2 x 2 pixel block. I don't yet have CloD, so I don't know that for sure.

<edit>

2560 x 1440 is exactly double 1280 x 720, so if you can select that resolution, that might be worth trying for you.

To get supersmooth movement (i'm not talking about loading stutter but little stutter on a constant rate noticable on fast moving terrain when you go below the VSync rate) you can try if your monitor works on 50Hz refreshrate. You won't see the difference (at least i don't) and then with VSync on, FPS is capped to 50 instead of 60 FPS. Gives you a 12% edge. Works fine here, 50FPS is more then enough.

I use a samsung 27" 1920x1080, bigger monitors are better only if you can run them on their native res... think of it this way... a bigger monitor with the same amount of pixels as a smaller monitor is basically just like holding your head closer to that smaller monitor... the quality of the image doesn't increase, just the size... so dots are easier to see, just cause their bigger, but they'll still be dots (assuming the dot is an aircraft somewhere off in the distance).

i am happy with my 1680x1050 22". To get a bigger picture i put the monitor nearer to my head. Yes....thats possible....
