On the first mission I built that starts on the ground I was amazed to see that my airfield was covered harvest-ready wheat. Really killed FPS on the ground from external view...so I turned grass off.

Crazy...

You need to fly close to the ground to see the grass...

If I turn grass off then I can't see the friggin landingstrip...so it's a must for me unfortunately.

You have to set either "Land shading" or "Land detail" to - at least - "Medium" to see the landing strip -- it was discussed in another thread here...

The ground textures are like sprite graphics from Commodore 64 almost. Like something low resolution texture slapped as ground. Grass helps to cover this but hits the FPS and only shows within the "Ring of LOD" around your plane at low alt.
