That doesnt work with win7/64 mate..still wont copy the core files over, says i dont have permission..

thing is when this beta first came out it worked, i had the splash screen and the vsync option and game ran better, then after doing a file integrity check it replaced a few files then since then ive had no beta patch, no vysnc and now it wont allow me to copy those core files over... maddox.dll etc etc

so Steam is ovbvioulsy stopping me from altering core files

If you have steam in a Program file folder, you probably need to reinstall Steam to a different folder, then just copy your 'common' folder, so you don't have to download all games again, but they will need a short reinstalling for each game. And if you have games with limited installs, uninstall them first.( At least check out what to do, so you don't loose access to a game, like Farcry2)

Cheers Dude, i thought that would fix it as i do the same with 1946 but i was seeing if something else was to blame, im knew to this Steam stuff.

i had no other games in steam so i just reinstalled everything again but in another C:/ location..

everything is working as it should now

If you do it correct, it should show 1.00.14214 on main menu, I use Winrar running as administrator set in settings (right-click and open utilities or what it's called, using non english myself, and open Compatibility menu, then select 'Run as admin')
I have my steam installed in C:\games, so it's probably slightly different from mine.
Extract the beta udate manually into C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover.

That's what i did, it installed fine (i didn't expect otherwise and i'm far from a newbie in stuff like this) but whatever i try, i still shows 14101 as my current version... weird. It overwrites all the files that it needs to (i checked that) but the version number stills stays 14101.

Make sure you use a 3'rd party unzip program, not the built in windows version, try WinRar or 7-Zip, or get later version if you already have. And run as admin.
If this doesn't help, I have no clue.

I never use the Windows built in unzipper but WinRar or WinZip. I run everything as admin, from the first second Windows is installed.

As far as i can see the patch installed succesfully, the game runs much smoother, a lot less stutter, much more enjoyable etc... The only thing that is not updated for some odd reason is the splashscreen with the version number. So maybe, all those that have applied the beta patch but still see the old version number, are maybe using it without knowing!
