Salute

The card you want is an ATI 6950, which has 2 Gigs of video memory, can be overclocked easily to nearly 6970 specs, and which costs about $250. This is the optimum price/performance card for CoD.

Your screen shot shows your rez using 120hz? I have looked through my settings and only see options for 60hz, are you setting something in the config file to get that working ?

As hinted by others, it's the fact that my Samsung 2233rz monitor supports 120Hz that makes that alternative pop up!

that means you can use 3D if it's implemented, have you tried it?

Nope, not yet. When I bought the monitor I was thinking of buying Nvidias 3D Vision glasses - but as the performance impact is rather large I did not want to kick my old GTX275 in the groin ;) As I'm planning on a GTX580 now I think it may be time to reconsider.... But apart from the first trials, will I sit there playing games for a long time with those glasses on? I don't think so?

So, the main reason for buying the 120Hz monitor was actually to get a more CRT like experience which I have really missed since the good ole days - and it has delivered in that aspect. Be sure! Just watching the mouse pointer while dragging it over the screen in 120Hz is a pure joy!

With the new patch the improvements in frame rate and quality have show it's worth going through upgrade process.

I've actually been holding off any major upgrades untill I could see that it was going to have an effect.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to play any missions, (getting redy to go to work as I type) but I did get to run through the Black Death track. I'm not sure about top framerates but on my rig it plays smoother than the Black Death track in '46

And the detail! WoW! the gound level explosion are awsome! Damage decals! How about the rounds getting removed from the bofors gun magazine is it fires!

There is still away to go (levitating wingless Hurricanes and that annoying clipping when the camera gets too close to the Beaufort and you can see inside the wing - one of my big gripes with ROF) but I'm definately in for the ride!

Did I say this patch is Great!

Cheers!

I agree - if a 6 core and a 4 core get exact same performance whats the point of upgrading? If a 6 core gets 33% more performance then you upgrade (just as an example).

thank you, I'll look for one!

I've been out of the loop for a few years, and everything has upgraded so dramatically, its alot of information to absorb...

You also want to add some memory, 3 gb is not enough, the game uses that much on its own, and your system requirements are on top of that. Personally I'd reccommend 6 or 8.

Also make sure you have a decent Hard Drive, minimum 7200 rpm speed, with lots of space. Ideally two 7200rpm drives in RAID 0 config if your motherboard supports that.

Cheesehawk, I run 2 x Gainward GTX 460 GLH's but as you know only one is being used at the moment in CoD. They are great cards for the price. Since latest patch I run avg 40-45+ fps over land only occasionally dropping to 35s over large towns or down on the deck, and get a constant 48-60 fps over water in a furball. Very little if any stutters except low over London.....even the big boys are getting that. My settings are everything on high except buildings detail low but run them unlimited amount. Usually don't run shadows or grass though. Original textures not the scaled down ones. My CPU is only running at 2.8ghz but is a quad. The good thing about these cards is the scalability when running in SLI if your board supports it. 2 cards together in 90% of games run about 25-30% faster than a single GTX580 which is damn near double the cost of both cards together. So its a great investment to get one now then when SLI arrives you can do a single cheap card addition and get better performance than going the whole hog with a single top-end card.
Oh and your resolution is 2 levels lower than mine so bonus there as well.

MudMarine 04-20-2011 05:00 PM

Or buy a 580 now and enjoy the sim the way it was meant to be displayed and go SLI later when all the mod makers start making improvements...

I only say this because I just bought one.... The wife is pissed I dropped 5 bills on a "graphics card" (What does a graphics card do anyways???)
:):)

S!

I would still wait out a bit until we see how Luthier & Team get the code optimized. I am sure both nV and AMD are aware of this title and will make driver updates ;) Can't go wrong with either brand.
