The MoBo that binky9 is looking at is an Asus Sabertooth P67.

Intel Ci7 2600k 3.4 Ghz 8mb cache

Replace 2600k with 2500k. The performance between them is negligible and HT is useless for gaming.

For the 100$ difference, get a GTX 580 3GB version or HD 6970 with a custom cooler.

Sorry guys for the challenge.

I just realised that the Asus Sabertooth P67 is actually running on dual-channel and not in tripple channel as I was thinking ( i5 can handle dual channel, i7 can handle dual or tripple channel).

So forget everythingI mentionned about 3 times yyGb of RAM, you can only put 2 or 4 RAM pieces inside so, 2x4Gb = 8Gb makes perfect sense and your specs are fine!

My mobo is pure i7 thus tripple channel and that was confusing me....

All,

Thanks the inputs. But, the $1,271 is still causing me to waver. I'll have to make a decision today or tomorrow. (Like many, I have a wife to consider):(

My ace in the hole is I'll be putting everything in the same case, so she may not notice anything.;)

You are confusing chipsets with processors. 1155 socket also has an i7. The mentioned in the first post.

Right now, only 1366 socket (X58 chipset) features triple channel.

I'll have the hard drive partitioned, so that I can keep XP running, too.

Does the below sound like a system that would handle CoD, and other future sims, for awhile?

Asus Sabertooth P67 motherboard
EVGA GTX570HD 1280 MB GDDRS Memory
8gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel Ci7 2600k 3.4 Ghz 8mb cache

one thing i see that was not listed was a power supply..if you are running XP right now i have a feeling your current PSU will not be enough to power the video card you have chosen.
and if your trying to get in at around $1000 just make a post saying "build me a rig for a $1000" trust me you will get alot of choices and a really nice system in the end. my rig (see Sig) cost me right around $500 :) if i had a $1000 to spend i would have a smoking fast rig :)

I didn't put it on the list, because I don't know which one I will get, will find out a power tomorrow.

Thanks,

It's probably kinda like being supporters of a sports team, but I would always suggest the Asus/Intel combo when it comes to MoBo/CPU, and I wouldnt get anything but an nVidia GPU... but that's me.

Rampage2, i5 quad, GSX460, would make a fairly good rig IMHO. 700w PSU would be more than enough.
NOTE: RampageII supports *some* i5's but not all of them. Double check that you have the right stuff before you order.
