The MoBo that binky9 is looking at is an Asus Sabertooth P67.

For the 100$ difference, get a GTX 580 3GB version or HD 6970 with a custom cooler. |

I said it depends on the Mobo. He said: Quote:

Sorry guys for the challenge.
I just realised that the Asus Sabertooth P67 is actually running on dual-channel and not in tripple channel as I was thinking ( i5 can handle dual channel, i7 can handle dual or tripple channel). So forget everythingI mentionned about 3 times yyGb of RAM, you can only put 2 or 4 RAM pieces inside so, 2x4Gb = 8Gb makes perfect sense and your specs are fine! My mobo is pure i7 thus tripple channel and that was confusing me.... ~S~ |
All,
Thanks the inputs. But, the $1,271 is still causing me to waver. I'll have to make a decision today or tomorrow. (Like many, I have a wife to consider):( My ace in the hole is I'll be putting everything in the same case, so she may not notice anything.;) binky9 |

Right now, only 1366 socket (X58 chipset) features triple channel. |

and if your trying to get in at around $1000 just make a post saying "build me a rig for a $1000" trust me you will get alot of choices and a really nice system in the end. my rig (see Sig) cost me right around $500 :) if i had a $1000 to spend i would have a smoking fast rig :) |

Thanks, binky9 |
It's probably kinda like being supporters of a sports team, but I would always suggest the Asus/Intel combo when it comes to MoBo/CPU, and I wouldnt get anything but an nVidia GPU... but that's me.
Rampage2, i5 quad, GSX460, would make a fairly good rig IMHO. 700w PSU would be more than enough. NOTE: RampageII supports *some* i5's but not all of them. Double check that you have the right stuff before you order. |
