Nice document on the engine btw. Funny thing I have less problems reading technical german than normal german. If someone wants it translated, I could work together with a native speaker (in english).

How that applies to the entire production run of the B-3, I don't know.

Thats the very same only evidence of the ZFR, that we had (you know, we used your collection). Manuals might be somewhat misleading, as they were produced prior to the delivering of planes to the flight groups. So the reference about this installation is veeeery weak and was regarded as not (yet) worth the effort. Furthermore, it wouldn't be possible to simulate a zoomed periscope view outside the canopy (the pilot couldn't press his eye on it). It would be somehow modeled wrong anyway.

The modeling of the ZFR was already begun, so if there eventually come up new references (I doubt it), I think, it would be a nice small addition.

so far i always kept the rpm as 2500 as max with 80% throtte to keep the engine in good condition.

but it seems this engine is just one more of this "long runners" in game. open the coolingflaps, give 110% throttle and the pitch at max....i had the engine running for over 40minutes now in a short test.......................... :(

fly cannon attacks(dive fast, climb slow at full throttle), then come back and report. ;)

JG53Frankyboy 01-12-2011 06:32 PM

i report..............and ??
i dont know from what heights you are starting your dives, but i have no proplems with the engine doing that at full throttle, full fine pitch on auto and cooler open.

anyway, this not beeing able to control the pitch like the other planes is a "Schnapsidee" IMHO.

but ok, il2 is gettting old ;) , and for a more "proper" enginemanagement we most propably have to wait for SoW/BoB/CoC (or however it will be called :D )

Hs129 has a different prop pitch control. This had been well researched and is quite well displaying the real thing. It has an electric automatic controller, which prevents higher resolutions than 2750RPM. If you want to destroy your engine, use manual pitch.

One thing that was a bit odd is that you can use the compressor stage controls to "Switch on" something. At least the engines gave a roar, but you could only have compressor 1 as setting, so shouldn't there be no compressor stage option in the first place if you can't switch between two?

Cool. Thanks for the responses, guys. As far as implementation goes, would it not be possible to use a variant of the telescope view in the Ki.43, for example, to supplement the reflector sight using either Shift+F1 or C? This is bordering on Luft '46, however, so I understand if DT members don't wish to spend time on it.

Cheers,

Yep, and to add to that, the only two known photos of an operational B-3 show it fitted with the standard B-2 gun sight.

Probably what happened is that the very, very first aircraft had the ZFR fitted, and the later ones used the standard B-2 sight. With only 25 planes produced and a service life of ~6 months, though, the true reality will probably never be known.
