there was "water=4" too - I thought it only had an effect on NV cards. :confused:

I have on my notebook long time ago installed version and in time upgraded by DT add-on. I even forgot that we did already these trees in cities and was asking to correct it DT team...but.... Martin Kubani reminded me that we did it already ourselves in the past... and that I had old INI file :):):) I simply too long time already on BoB... with its engine and modeling of aircraft and ground units... and the things became way more complex that to remeber everything :) So... I think you was opening some good discuission and community will help you and some others to find the best posssible that already is in Il-2. Trees in cities that was tha thing that disspointed me in the past very much... and not all know how to set it for the best looking image that really alllow Il-2 engine comparing to default settings. |

I think Oleg refers to Effects=2 in conf.ini but last time I tested them, the frame rates dropped sharply and there were flashy textures in smokes etc. And I think long time ago Oleg said Effects=2 is not recommended. I post my conf.ini below, added with Oleg's settings if anyone wants to try it. I run them on a AMD/nVidia rig. [Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=3 <- Setting at 3 was Anisotropic filtering TexCompress=0 TexFlags.UseDither=1 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0 <- Recalling this referred to some shadows and smoke visuals on lower settings TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0 TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1 HardwareShaders=1 Shadows=2 Specular=3 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=4 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=3 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=17 <- Recalling this means a Custom setting Water=4 <- Water 4 is for nvidiA only Effects=1 ForceShaders1x=0 PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15 PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0 |
Oleg, what cloud mod are you using? :-P

Just a small joke to make everyone spill their coffee on a boring Tuesday afternoon.
Oleg has an amazing sense of humour :D It's interesting to see his conf.ini. Looking at his picture of Il-2 just shows how well the game has lived for 10 years. Even today it still looks very good graphically. Notice the realistic colours, and now compare to that in WoP or that Condor game. It's staggering really. SoW will be just the same, I am sure. Compare the first edition of Il-2 to 1946 and if the same were to be done to SoW in 10 years time, one can't even imagine how good it'll be. |

Forest=4 ??? Effects, you go up to 2 |
Effects=2 gives massive FPS loss though. I recall that it was never fully optimized, but I am not 100% sure on this.

Yes, effects on 2 causes a heavy drop on FPS on intensive scenes. Effects 1 is good balance. Forest 4 is a new setting that should change trees if reading Oleg's answer. Added as they were not happy with the original ones. Will test them more in Kuban map, there is a town handily nearby when press fly :) |
