As I usually fly only coop missions it helps to use the command string |
I have got IL2 and patched it to the latest and installed the latest ultra pack.
I know IL2 is better, I just wanted something that looked very nice that I could have a quick dogfight in, that looks like something close to what SOW will look like. And I've had quite a bit of fun in it. My only query really was, as it was based on IL2 and had more sim-like options for the PC version, was is the FM and DM sort of respectable. Judging by the backlash here, obviously not. (also, I'm not saying current patch of IL2 looks bad, it's amazing for a 9 year old piece of software, but try as you might and for all it's shallowness, WOP does look lovely and very cinematic for a quick furball). |

Childish comments like "it's crap" don't help anyone. |

IL2FB and ROF have their own visual styles. BS and A-10 are interesting in this respect: very accurate and hardcore on the simming side, while the visuals - though extremely detailed - simply lack the artistic originality that is present in IL2FB and ROF. Google maps just doesn't cut it mapwise. But Birds of Prey? I could puke every time i see a screenshot. S! |
not Birds of Pre, Wings of Prey. You can turn HDR off if you so wish. You sound like a fanboy and I already state I rate il2 above it for most aspects, that doesn't preclude me however from getting enjoyment from WOP.
I will of course drop it like a stone when SOW is released but as I only picked it up for £15 I consider it a bargain. |
In all fairness, WOP was never marketed for the serious simmer. Out of the box it looks pretty and some people do like it and prefer it to Il1946 (which out of the box, unpatched, un modded, etc, looks inferior at first sight). I prefer IL1946 and consider it a far better product but it has had 10 years of improvements, mods, etc. Unfortunately, WOP was quickly abandoned by the Gajin team in favour of supposed sequel rather than trying to iron out the bugs and improve it. I don't like the 'activation' requirement (only being able to install it on one PC) but the bigest WOP failure is the MP - it is appalling!
AS for FM, I haven't played WOP enough (for obvious reasons) to draw a comparison between all the ac but something isn't quite right with my favourite Spit MK9 - I just haven't bothered to nail exactly what it is. If you like it then thats what really counts - I know of several SIM enthusiasts who prefer it to IL1946- they find it just too demanding to play/set up. WOP is 'Instant Coffee' and IL1946 is the perculated, filtered that takes a bit longer but has the flavour! BTW IL1946 - Amazon - £5-00 - thats a steal let alone a bargain! Demo'd my IL1946 to a WOP devotee and he was gobsmacked! |
mr71mb0,
Pay no attention to them. WoP has wonderful graphics, unless you are an "artiste". The big problem, for me, in WoP is the time limit. Otherwise, it can be a lot of fun, and you can take some great looking screenshots. binky9 |

But for online I can see the sense. |

Everyone's always talking about 'immersion', how can a flight sim be immersive if you don't ask for permission to land?! Or am I a really sad b*st*rd?!:grin: |

IL2 is cheap. And good. Do you work for the civil service, by the way? |
