No, the Hummel did not have a front machine gun, however, later versions did have provision to mount one or two machine guns, located one on each side fighting compartment. These machine guns aren´t commonly seen in pictures, probably due to the fact that the Hummel is a rear-line SP howitzer and not an assault gun (unlike the Russian ISU152).

Yes, they had machine guns on them. Sometimes the driver would carry a MG42 inside the hull and stick it out of the viewing port in the front.

Korsakov you have gotten it all wrong. Reason why theres no Hummel, priests, Ho-Ros etc is becaue they are classed as Self-propelled artillery.
Not turretless tank(even tho they had no turret).

ISU-152s and Hummels got completly different tasks.
Hummels work basically like a standard artillery peice, but its mobile and got some limited protection. And they are used far back for artillery support.

ISU-152s on the other hand are more a unit that can do everything. Tank destroyer, support fire for the troops and indirect support fire like an artillery.
Even if it could be used as an artillery. But that wasn't its original design.

I see your point.

Still, Hummel is pretty good.
