The DLC came with the Jug, and a few more single play missions. I love the plane, but the lack of missions for it is a bummer. This game would be a gold mine if it had a simple mission editor. Anyways.......

I think only pre-orders received the Jug for free.

i payed £8 for it (then relised if it was 2 quid cheaper i coulda got gt5 prologue as well lol oh well £12 left for more dlc in whatever)

Joking aside -

The P47 wasnt all that bad in a climb, sure the earlier models were which is why to evade the luftwaffe used to go into a steep climb, but as the later models came out (this game depicts a D) they had a fairly good rate of climb, and a superb roll rate. And above 30,000ft they were quite nimble :D

though they were not the dogfighter - the P51 was around for that. This "jug" was good at ground attack, thats where she belongs :D

its what i use her for.

You know Ive never had a proper dogfight at 30,000 ft in this game, not even in training. I will have to try it sometime, the P47 could be the best plane at that hight in this game and only a few people would ever know it.

I don't know. It just has too large a turning radius. Every time I try to pull it tighter, slowing down or using a little rudder, it stalls violently. In a straight line, it isn't any faster than the best fighters. Diving and trying to get lead in a target is damn hard. Congrats if you can do it consistetly. I keep trying this plane and the 51 in practise hoping to find some trick or something that would get my American fighters into the combat hunt. False hope so far. They just won't turn in sharp enough and that stalling is a bitch. Maybe the blackouts will help these two become more effective in anything other than strike, which hardly anybody is playing in sim.

Whoa what DLC? I thought we were waiting on this??? I know the patch is out and yes after my next mission I unlocked a bunch of stuff but not P-47. Do I have to go to the PS store? Are the German cockpits there?

Yup what you're looking for is at the PS store! I'm debating if getting the P-47 and a few extra missions is worth $9.99 myself...

pretty uncommon for two fighters to stop and dogfight at 30,000 feet - those that can even fly that high, that is... unless there's bombers around

I don't call p51 a dogfighter, but enough about that... the p47 had vicious machine guns, but was the heaviest world war 2 fighter built by the US, its wing loading was over 50 lbs/square foot with a full tank, and its range was too short for it to be effective for US objectives which were mainly: send bombers long distances and protect them with escorts, and find tanks and blow them up. So they were glad to replace it with the p51 for those reasons.

There were other American planes that were much better at dogfighting. Considering BOP is designed for low-altitude and short-range fights, with the average lifespan of a plane about 1 minute, it woulda been better to have the p-39 and p-40. They had weak engines but they were great fighters. The p-63 had a good engine and was a great fighter.

I was just testing some planes against bombers in training, the 109k, 190 and la7, using both bnz and weave tactics. The german planes were better at the weave, though only the 190 could attack up and down without falling into the gunners cone. The la7 was immortal at bnz, and torn to ribbons at weaving. Its cannons aren't powerful enough to kill the plane before the gunner gets lucky.

I hear ya!!!! A p63 and p40, maybe the p39 in early 40's battles, would be absolutely awesome!!!! I am hoping they are in a dlc soon. They gotta give me an American plane to get in there with.

No cockpits unfortunately

That's been my experience, too.

I don't even try the Stang online, but I've taken the Jug up several times. It doesn't seem to have the speed it should - should be able to hit 300-400mph in level flight at low to mid altitude, more like 450mph up high. I don't recall seeing close to those numbers without standing on the WEP, or nosing over into a dive. And, the dives aren't all that impressive. Story was, if you wanted to climb a Jug up from 20K to 30K, the fastest way was to dive to 15K, then zoom up to 30K. Roll rate was reportedly very good in the Jug, but it only seems average in game - probably worse than the 109 and Spit (the non-clipped wing Spits could be out-rolled by a P-47). Turn fight, forget it. I don't think the Jug ought to be able to out-corner many of its opponents, but it ought to be more competitive than it is. Your best bet to get a kill is to head out from the fight a couple miles, turn around and come diving in on somebody who is distracted and flying a relatively straight path. Most of the time, your superior armor is what you'll be using as some asshole in a Spit or 109 sits in your six and chews your tail.

Very disappointing to have the Jug there, but be so under-represented. Maybe they modeled an extra fuel tank there...and forgot it had a turbocharger...and a PW R-2800...and ailerons/elevators. At least the Stang is getting fixed. Don't know about the Jug.

Only had one high altitude fight in a training mission. Took a Spit IX against a 262. Fight started a 30,000' and ended after about five minutes around 15,000' after I finally got the corner on him. I seemed to be just hanging on the blades up at 30,000' while the 262 could've engaged and disengaged at will if the computer wasn't flying it in big loops. The Jug ought to be able to show her stuff up at that height, but I wonder if the game will reflect that.
