Haha, I can imagine. Probably people will tell you to fix something yourself, bolt it to a plank or something. Some people go a long way with that stuff, just google it ;).

so one could say, that joystick players are more ambitous and have a advantage over gamepad players or is the difference not that big?

its like when you play a First Person Shooter and use mouse and keybord?

Hmm.. it depends. Some people ace with controllers, others are better with joysticks. But I guess you don't know what suits you best until you try. I can say for sure there's no huge difference if you use a flight stick, even though I think most of the people use it. What console are you on?

I am on xbox and to be honest, I am really bad at aiming with the gamepad

I can follow a plane quit long time but its more luck than skill when I shoot one donw

maybe I just have to practice more.

Practice always helps. I did notice when using the joystick it's easier to maintain your crosshairs on the right position, making it less shaky.

I'm a gamepad player and consider my self to be a competitive pilot (yet I still get schooled regularly by the IL2 veterans ;) ) so I think you can succeed with both really, it's just about personal preference.

I play on the PS3, but this applies to the xbox also, far as I know. On realistic and sim difficulty settings, you're gonna want to turn down the aileron and elevator sensitivity settings when playing with a controller. Just how much is gonna depend on how it feels to you. Just a heads up, thought I'd help you avoid some frustration.
