I think the only substandard thing is our PCs and GPUs today:

The tragic thing is that after the whole outcry regarding the poor graphics performance of the game, precious programming ressources are used creating a "graphics-light" version of the game.

Tragic is also that we are a very small community. If we were like the WOW or some other nae I do not remember with 14million users, we could have kicked ATI & NV to bring new GPUs into the market and a lot o our problems would have been solved.

Tomorrow

Anyone else really excited to see if we get a beta patch tomorrow?
I'm sure the odds are really stacked against it but I can hope i guess.
I'm Really looking forward to hearing the extra sounds more than anything especially as Luthier said quite a while back that aircraft sound alive now inside the cockpit.

When the Beta does arrive what is everyone looking forward to the most?

For me I think its hearing the new sounds first and of course the updated graphics engine second.

ACE-OF-ACES 03-01-2012 01:58 PM

If it does great.. If it doesn't that is fine too.. I would rather they take thier time than rush it out.. Last thing we need is another bug sneaking into the code for people to get upset about

Dissapointed.
I dont see the point in posting a week ago that the team is preparing the beta if I'm honest, hopefully the issue will not force the development team to have to wait another week to release.

yea i just read the same in the russian thread (more il2 aircraft screenshots), disappointing there is still no patch to be released.

kestrel79 03-01-2012 03:36 PM

I'm fine with seeing more more sequel pics. Hope to see more of the new terrain as well as some new planes!

I'm also probably most excited about the new sounds in the upcoming patch. I thought the last patch with the new sounds made this a WHOLE new sim. No more rehashed IL2 sounds. The RoF guy did an amazing job, can't wait to see what he has cooked up this time.

Also looking forward to the fps boost. That will be quite nice as well when flying low. Maybe can turn up some details too.

You guys are really spoiled, aren't you. Luthier and IL-2 developers are the most generous team I've ever seen in the gaming industry. Most games are not supported longer than one year, with handful of patches, many of them only to fix the bugs caused by previous one. Newer contents in patches are rare, most force us to buy DLC or expansion pack. Take "Empire Total War" as an example of how irresponsible a developer can be. This game was one of the most expected in history and ended up as a bugfest. Patches only came occasionally and did not really fix anything. Any history fan will facepalm to death when they see how inaccurate this game is. Finally, EA just conveniently dropped the game. The story didn't end there. They developed another game in the series called "Napoleon total war", which was a little bit better than an expansion pack, and sold it with full price. Well, at least most bugs are eliminated in the new game.
Luthier does surprise me with his supporting policy. And mind you: CloD is a very playable game. It's not perfect, it still has some bugs and performane issues, but it's playable and enjoyable. Luthier can stop here and go on making BoM, noone can really blame him, since it's the norm in game industry. But he does not do it, for that alone I'm graceful enough.
Each time I want to complain about the reversed mixture lever in the Spitfire, I talk to myself: well, at least that is historically much more accurate than the Redcoats firing tracers in the XVIII century.

Kankkis 03-01-2012 04:44 PM

I have no idea what to make of what you just said, but i think if you cut out 90% of what you said ie the empire total war stuff as you have the wrong forum and its irrelivant to this thread, you left with a succulent 10% containing - you calling others in this thread spoiled, and you talking to yourself about redcoats firing tracers so I guess really there is only 5% relevant to this thread in what you said.

I bought the game just like you bought the game ACE-OF-ACES. I am entitled to my own opinion...UNLIKE YOU, I did not put anyone down or write a long dissertation on what is wrong or right. Is this not a forum to voice our opinions, concerns and thoughts among fellow gamers who share the same passion? Or am I in the wrong place? I know one thing though, I really doubt it is a vessel for you to take pot shots at individuals just because you don't agree with their opinions....Yes, first post, being in the military doesn't afford me alot of time, so I usually read and stay behind the scenes, but this is my favorite game and I am watching its everystep with frustration more often than not. HEY this is my 2nd post!!!! AWESOME!!!!

Droopsnoot, I'm hoping they fix the CTDs...IMHO that is a game breaker for most...

DroopSnoot 03-01-2012 08:34 PM

Very true mister26, I'm hoping they are related to the graphics engine as they wernt as bad before the last patch, so logically the re-write of code for graphics should fix it. I'm hoping too for a real fullscreen, so no flashing desktop.

my thoughts exactly, i recall some dev statement about new sounds like wheels on the ground, more dynamic engine response (sound-wise that is), acting levers and little touches like that

now if only we got a glimpse at some clouds ;)

carguy_ 03-01-2012 10:44 PM

The upcoming beta patch is not really my cup of tea. I can live with all of the current quirk, besides the lack of coops. I don`t find flying in df servers fun. The campaign, however interesting it may be, it is still offline play, which bores me.
My info tells me that the coop mechanics are nowhere to be seen, so meh, I will wait some more. No biggie.
Maaaaaybe if the patch gets to be succesful in terms of playing stability and fps performance, I may just try out one of the custom campaigns.

Probably the real thing that I`m looking for in CloD is another year away. Doesn`t really bother me. I find that nowadays video game market is so huge, that when I think of potential time-killers while waiting for the real thing, I immediately get around 6 big titles. And it doesn`t change over time, because new ones are being released month by month. So when I think of waiting for CloD to floourish, I am positive it will work out well at the time I get other things straight. There are so many other things to do.

Bottom line is, if life doesn`t let me down and I don`t get bad luck, I will be able to come up with a new cpu in fall of this year, so I`ll be ready to fire up CloD in settings near full of its graphical prowess. Ready for BoM also as a day one buy, preferably the CE version of it.

priller26 03-02-2012 12:30 AM

One has no choice really but to wait it out and its here when its here, not much is going to change that. I can wait, its not a huge issue. On a side note, I've found imo most games after a year have well worked through their bugs, just a thought, to pass the time.

You should not expect a patch tomorrow. Patch releases are very big news and everyone is very excited about them. The developer knows that and usually shares information about a patch prior to release.

machoo 03-02-2012 05:40 AM

TBH I don't care. if the patch comes out i'll probably play it for 10mins and think " meh " and go back to iRacing.

David198502 03-02-2012 07:06 AM

for me the most pressing issues im interested in are in the following order of importance:

-flight models(as realistic as possible please)

-ai behaviour(im tired of 36 planes dont dare to attack me for more than two minutes only because i shot a few of them out of the sky.and im even more tired of getting on their six to shoot steady targets, not reacting anyway while one after the other ends in the channel)

-graphic engine optimisation(hopefully no launchercrashes, dot visibility problem
solved,more fps)

Part of me wants to say "no Tree you are wrong" but I kinda know he is right in this case. Still, I do appreciate the Friday updates since it's a whole lot better than more of what we get here all the other days, nothing!:-(

furbs 03-05-2012 07:21 AM

Blacksix, instead of pics or video for the update maybe you could ask Luthier to take a look at my questions from last week?
Im sure the community would be more than happy.

here they are again...

Since there is no patch this week*, please could you ask Luthier to take some time to answer these very very important questions to the best of his knowledge.

1) Will the patch fix the CTD(MEM leak)

2) What changes in the FM will we see in the patch?

3) What improvements can we expect in the AI?

4) Have the radio commands been worked on and fixed?

5) Has the ground handling been addressed?

6) Distant LoD model visibility fixed for aircraft and ground objects?

7) How close are the server docs and SDK away from release?

8 ) Has Luthier looked again at the issue of COOPs?

9) Will the FPS boost allow FSAA to be addressed and improved?

Thanks very much Blacksix and i hope you can inform Luthier about these important questions

Chivas 03-05-2012 07:22 AM

There seems to alot of knowledge here on how easy it should be to create WW2 Combat Flight sim from 1's and 0's. I know the developer would be terrified if we put all the talent gathered here to give them some competition. LMFAO

I know the drill well enough so far as not telling us when a patch is coming out but could they tell us when it isnt ?

Namely can B6 confirm that the patch will not be released this week ? (please)

David198502 03-05-2012 08:41 AM

well then "You will see the beta graphics patch very shortly" obviously means two weeks be sure.
i really get impatient now.all we get is

"for some reason the beta patch is delayed"
why?
...no answer
what will it contain?
...no answer
when can we expect it?
"very shortly"
...
"no update this week"

i really love the communication with us!

We are all a little tetchy, but until we get news that the patch is ready then we dont really need an update, Im sure if the patch was ready the dev's would have got it sorted before their holidays, I hate to say but we do just have to be patient, and hope that all this waiting will be worth it.

Thanks for letting us know. At least it will avoid the usual "Oh no, the sky is falling" parade :) I'm deploying north a few weeks anyways for the winter exercise. I guess patch will be waiting for me when I get home, or at least an update :)

Seeya around in a few weeks :)

We are all grateful for the communication with the team and, for those who actually understand that work on BoM does not mean that work on CloD has been shelved (We do exist. LOL), it is always nice to see developments with regards to the sequel.....

I would say the big problem is from a PR perspective. Put it this way:

Let's say you lent someone £40 and they promised they would pay you back next week..... a week passes.... you ask them were the £40 is and their reply is "Erm....ah.... I saw this brilliant program on TV the other day!"

Another week passes.... you ask them where the £40 is.

"I like cake. Cake is nice isn't it?"

A year passes....... :D

I have total faith in 1C and I am sure we will all have a working sim fairly soon but, it has to be said, it doesn't look too good and it is no wonder some people are getting riled about this. Is banning and/or heavy moderation really the answer? I would say it could only make matters a lot worse. Personally, if it was my decision, I would have kept the entire BoM stuff a secret...a wonderful surprise to blow our minds once CloD was working as, otherwise, it has a nasty way of looking like a switcheroo to the more suspicious out there.

I know one thing.... I am SO moving to Russia! Seems to be a holiday every time someone sneezes. :D

The big question is this: If, let's say, the beta patch was ready on Monday.... would it be released on Monday or would we have to wait until the following Friday due to some strange nod to tradition? Just want to know if it is worth logging in the other 6 days a week. :D

Old-Banger 03-05-2012 10:55 AM

It would not surprise me if we only get the patch when Battle of Moscow is released into the wild..........

Tell to me how the patch and Friday updates are connected among themselves?:confused::confused:
If the beta patch will be ready on Monday - will be released on Monday

csThor 03-05-2012 11:08 AM

Simple. Some people are hell-bent on spreading absurd conspiracy theories on how Maddox Games gets a kick out of letting the players wither by withholding information/the patch/fixes/new aircraft or cockpits/whatever.

You don't read own themes?

I can't tell you. That's why I posed it as a question. ;) I have known many companies, in all manner of situations, who have operated in such a fashion so I just wondered if that may be the case here. :) A lot of people cling to the "Friday Updates" and wonder aloud "Could it be this friday?" so I am not alone in thinking that.

pupo162 03-05-2012 12:36 PM

thank god the dont have a Deadline.
