You haven't payed yet I hope. I thought these pre-order sites only charged your credit card after the item is shipped, so it shouldn't be a big deal one way or another.

I did pay Chivas, we have a debit card in the UK, anyhow they refunded me late last year without me even asking for it. They said the product was no longer available. Not a bad little earner though if they took 3-5 thousand (mere speculation) pre-orders @ £27 each and sit on the cash for over a year. It would not take much effort on the part of 1C to make a statement about pre-ordering a product that is no where near completion, especially in 2007.

You can still pre-order it from these places.

This one makes me giggle, abit of a communication breakdown here me thinks unless this is what became Birds of prey, but how could it be possible that Ubisoft really believed that SOW would be released in Nov 2006? Did they just make it up without any input from Oleg, seems very unlikely to me.

Skarphol have you ever wondered how many live's were ruined because of photo shop...luckily for Oleg, it appears he is in no condition to care:-P

Thats a good question Tree. It has been discussed many times but no answers as of yet. The developer has stated they could have released SOW awhile ago if they wanted, but it didn't fit their vision of the final product. Maybe the publisher wanted them to release that product, but the developer prefered to make SOW cinematic with more features to expand their market i.e. CGI. In the mean time they could release more paid addons to the IL-2 series. UBI had no problem selling those addons. We haven't heard a word from UBI since. Ruffled feathers, plus Lawyers, equals silence. It could also be that after UBI got burnt with that statement, and decided not to say anything about the product until they had a more solid release date. Or maybe they are no longer involved as your investigation seems to bare out.

I really don't care if UBI is involved or not. We will be able to buy the product from another publisher or on-line with no publisher involved, even with lawyers involved.

I agree - this must be some kind of a theodicy for the purists that claim that the release date from Ubisoft was a pure french fantasy that was never even discussed with Oleg. Of course, as we now "know" that development started in 2007 - how could it?

Feuerfalke 03-18-2009 09:31 PM

As Oleg posted before, these dates were based on the idea of building BoB on the IL2-Engine. While the game was being developed before, work on the new engine was started in 2007, which meant neccessary reworks of most of the stuff already done.

Anyway, I don't know why anybody does preorder a game without seeing any screenshots, videos, previews, reviews, systems specs, release-dates (not release years), etc of the final game?

Even IF it was released then, you'd give you money away months before the release, giving easily away months of interests, this money would bring to your bank-account. Not much, but 50 bucks for 2 years, that's a quite few euros freely given to the reseller.

Feuerfalke..... If my memory serves me correctly they were talking about building SOW on a new game engine long before 2007. The developers first release date was the end of 2005 but found they couldn't do the things they want to do with the IL-2 engine and decided build the new engine. From 2005 till 2007 most of the work being done was on the IL-2 addons with a skeleton crew working on SOW and the new engine.

Feurefalke i pre-ordered mine in 2007 when i saw the footage of Oleg in Birmingham, in that footage he clearly said that he expected the game to be released in November of the same year. I had no idea at the time that this was all bullsh*t because In those days i was very much like yourself and believed everything that was said. Has you can see my view has changed somewhat. I also thought by pre-ordering i might be helping the development in a small way by investing in the project.
