View Full Version : I think BOP is gonna be a sleeper HIT

I think sales are gonna start in one big bang from all of us IL2-1946 veterans and a few aviation fans in the know, then they will be slow for a week or two and then its going to be a nice steady climb for the next couple of years as word of mouth spreads.
Fact of the matter is, BOP brings something new and different to the table.. Yea I love me some COD4, WAW and cant wait for MW2, but this is different, shooters are getting tired and you will see more and more people become attached to BOP and its addicting dogfighting.
I mean for petesakes look how people fight over getting the planes on BF1942 and BF1943! Those games are shooter centric, yet there is an inherant instinct amongst us to wanna get in a plane and kick some a$$ instead of hoofing it our tanking it!
Gonna be nice, I will enjoy the easy multiplayer kills early on, but I believe in a few months you are going to see some outstanding virtual fighter pilots emerge from people that wont be able to put the controller down.

its true that due to boredom recently with other games, that IL2 BOP will inherit some new players, but i fear this is only short term.
Between now and november 10th we have operartion flashpoint 2 dragons rising, and then modernwafare 2.... will see everyone move back over to the shoot em ups leaving a very small fan base still playing this game.
Hope im wrong.

I agree with the sleeper HIt, however it has to contend with many other games including Halo:ODST(sept 22) only for the 360 though.

Halo:ODST = more of the same, I know that it is just my opinion, but HALO 1 is one of my all time favorite games and I still play it, and I played the hell out of Halo 2, but by the time I got to Halo3 I only played that for a month and a half until COD MW came out and then never touched Halo3 again...I am so lame over the Halo series now, that I have not even bothered to pre-order ODST or even feel the least bit interested to even read up on it....and that is sayin allot because I am the guy that bought six copies of Halo3 to system link on his six xbox 360s for game nights with the guys.
COD MW only lasted me about three months of enjoyment until I got tired of the multiplayer...I consider myself a good FPS player and have had kill streaks of 20+ in COD MW, but really, your average game time life span in that game is like 30 seconds and I am soo bored of playin FPS shooters where you are constantly dying and respawning because somebody lobs granades across the map like nobodies business. I only played COD MW's single player campaign once and when I tried to play through it again, I was just too bored with it. Yea, Im looking forward to COD MW2 and will play its multi for a while, but in my opinion those games just dont reward skill, because no matter how good you are, you are constantly getting fragged. I feel like I am more relevant when I play BF1943, because your skill can actually help the team succeed in more ways than just frag counts and you have more ability to use real tactics instead of just "quick twitch" shooting.
Maybe I am just gettin old (32) but I don't think that is it, I mean when I was 14 my favorite game was F-17 stealth fighter on the computer, and then came A-10 Tank Killer, Red Baron and Aces of the Pacific. Yea the learing curve was massive on those old flight sims, and F-17s manual alone was thicker than my history class book...but my point is even at 14 years old, I sat my but down and absorbed that game as much as I could...and I didnt go join the airforce, hell I have never even flown a real plane yet, but those games brought me to the table of flight sim bliss and that is exactly what I think BOP is going to do for a substantial amount of younger gamers that have only known FPS shooters..... yea the massive FPS shooters are coming out and yea they are going to kill BOP in initial sales, but BOP has three things going for it. (1) Aviation/history which facinates most people, (2) Cunning and skillful action that rewards what you put into it and (3) something different rather than the same old run and gun, run and gun, run and gun.....yea those grenade lobbers from COD may get a few lucky head on shot kills when they play BOP, but for the most part, the skilled players will be able to deal with them quickly and talent will be able to flourish in this game....I cant freakin wait!

It think it will be a hit as well, but will probably be used later on as a last resort of Online play for those who aren't as interested in WW2 Fighters etc. I think MW2 will probably be the top Online played game for a few months, but those tired of being pwnd :P on MW2 will probably resort to BoP, which isn't bad by any means, but it will probably be just like a filler? But who can say for sure, I know it will be a big hit Online for the days before MW2, but I'm not sure after?

Your either smoking crack or being paid by the publisher. You are in fantasy land. The game is going to sell very poorly. The game has very, very limited appeal. There are no signs at all that this game will have any decent sales or have any mainstream appeal.
Heck there are very few people interested on GameFAQS which by far the biggest videogame message board.

Wow, and he pipes up yet again.
Aren't there some Pokemon forums you need to go pillage now?
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and have others assume you are stupid rather than opening it and making that assumption concrete.
Dennis, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the reviews are coming in, and they are overwhelmingly positive.
I do doubt that this game is going to sell like COD or Halo. I do think it is going to be a sleeper hit though. Your poor assumption that this game will barely sell anything is based on NOTHING factual.
Isn't there a light socket you could go piss in or something?

You guys are going to be in for a very big surprise when you see the Sept NPD sales for BOP. I will be sure to come back, and post them so you guys will be knocked back to reality when you see how poor the game sold.

You got it all Dennis, you know everything we don't. You are far more superior in Economical facts and spread sheets, then any of us could possibly be. Maybe you should ask Anton or just ask 1C if you can be their economics advisor. Maybe you can help make BoP what it should be. You by far exceed my Economic skills, and shown me that you have little interest in this game. SO QUIT TALKING DOWN!! Or add some positive input rather than these menial posts where you show your clearly profound and expert Economic skills.

I sure hope you are right that sales will increase, but i still have a feeling it will be gem which allready has been overlooked.
Right now everyone is playing Batman (me also, great game). OFPDR coming out, mw2, i still hope more people try the demo and buy the full game!

I'm wavering on MW2 now.
There are a lot of good games coming out and although I enjoyed MW its appeal didnt last that long really plus theres the price hike (RRPĀ£55).
I'm getting IL2 obviously, unless something goes hideously wrong I'll get OFP2 as well as I'll also be getting Forza3 (I'm also a racing sim fan, now I know its not really a sim but its about as close as I can get on 360) and possibly NFS-Shift (its practically made by SimBin, need a demo). Dragon Age could be another buy.
That a lot of games to play in the next few months for someone with 2 kids and a full time job.

I see no reason why BoP would be any less popular than AC, HAXS, or any other on consoles.
i88bastard, I agree with most of what you say about MW 1&2. I'll play MW2 for a bit,(mostly for the new campiagn)but MP is pretty much a map pack.
Operation Flashpoint is new and exciting, but BoP is one of a kind at this point.

i would have been one of those people who would have played this until MW2, OFP:DR and halo: ODST but owing to the disgusting pricing choices of EA i've decided they can keep MW2 and stick it where the sun don't shine (and ODST isn't looking so great anyway), this and OFP will be my games of the year.
but i am under no illusions, this game will fly by most people, it's WWII, it's flying, it's not 100% easy and so 90% of people wont buy it, it will sell well enough though, they wouldn't have spent all the time developing it if it were not going to do so.

I will be sure to come back.
Please don't.
A limited audience but at least a normal one... I think DLC will be where the IL-2 team are looking for their buck and so be it...happy to support this game.
MW2 is looking more and more unappealling ...
a) price-45quid- takes the lemon
b) map packs ( what do you reckon...3?) -thats another 30quid
c) inumerable d!ckheads on line saying "I own you b!tch"-I guess the dictionary will have to spell it ownanism fron now on...
d) legendary camping and glitch exploitation.-its just not cricket
problem is MW2 is now too big...the new multiplayer footage was posted on youtube 70 times in the first 30 minutes of it's release...it's now just one huge cash cow...I might just not bother geting suckered in...
So hopefully any fools there might be on xbl/psn IL-2 will disappear come November...that is apart from Dennis who will be stood in a shop somewhere looking at BOP, looking at HOE, looking at BOP, looking at HOE...

Ummm no I dont smoke crack and no I have nothing to do with any game publisher. However, I am a business man that has run is own company for the last five years and I hold a masters degree in Finance, so I would like to think that I know a little bit about economics, supply & demand and the like. IL2's demo had over one million downloads on PSN and Xbox live and has received solid reviews from every reviewer. This is going to sell like hot cakes....God you are such a tool.

No way does this game even come close to making the Sept NPD Top 10 in sales not even close. I can guarantee you that. People are going to be in for a HUGE reality check when the actual sales numbers come in.

of course it wont, i dont think anyone is seriously under the illusion that it will, but i reckon it will sell better than you presume, like i said, if 505/1c didn't expect a decent return (decent enough to cover the cost of this game and pay for the production of the next game AT LEAST) they wouldn't bother.
