Just read the other threads and decide which one sounds best for you. for ps3 you can choose between the Saitek AV8R-03 and the Thrustmaster sticks (with or without HOTAS) . At the moment in the demo both Saitek and TM have different drawbacks. I'd wait untill we get some feedback on how the sticks perform in the full game before choosing.

Thrustmaster for PS3 = best in the business.

Hori Ace Edge for 360 = best in the business.

Last thing I will ever have to say about it, it's kinda been done. But, he was apologetic at the start of the thread so please don't chew all over his ass for it.

You could go to a PC World or something, they usually have some joysticks lined up for you to get a feel of them. The HOTAS Thrustmaster is probably the best bet for PS3 as the rudder works as analog. If the developers have managed to get the hat to work 8 ways it will be allmost perfect.

One of my best friends whom I have played online with for more than a decade uses the AV8R to great effect on the 360. I have both the Ace Edge and AV8R and all I could really say is that it's a matter of preference. AV8R isn't hard to use, it's just a light stick. Some people prefer that, though. It's like one of the differences between flying a Cessna 172 and a Cessna 182 (don't f'in go off on that, we're only talking controllability people). The 172 has light controls that are easy to move. The tradeoff is that it can be pretty squirrely in the wind and it responds to every little thing. Some pilots like that, some don't. I fly a 182, not only for all the extra power, but also having much heavier controls leads to greater stability. It takes more effort to get it to do something, but it will do it quite well every time. You just have to decide if you want to fly all twitchy like, which could actually help some in a combat scenario, most fighters are inherently unstable, or if you want a steadier gun platform that will get on target and stay on target. Let me put that a different way: You can either go for winning your fights by rapid maneuvering and snap shooting, or you can win your fights by taking longer to work into position and then creating a lead wall for them to fly into. It's what you prefer vs. your capabilities. Some people can't pull off the jerky maneuvers and react fast enough to make a kill shot like that. Some can and just prefer the walls of lead.

yeah that's the one. I've bought this stick just today and it works a charm!
I'm new to these forums but i decided to join in on the fun...the demo of IL-2on ps3 also convinced me to buy a stick just for this game.

I've only played with the stick in arcade mode, but man,it is a huge difference in comparison to the regular pad.( just make sure to use cockpitview for immersion purposes)

Also..about the hat switch being 4 way..i dunno, but this afternoon i played the demo with the setup Thrustmaster T flight HOTAS X nr. 2 and i could have sworn i could look at approx. 1 o'clock and 11 o'clock..not on my six,but those two..yeah i'm pretty sure i did...

posted this in another joystick thread, but thought it wouldn't hurt to post it here to,so:

''Ok, i've tried the hatswitch and unfortunately i was wrong..It doesn't allow you to hold it at say 1 o'clock..my bad! Sorry for any misinformation.

Thing is: I don't actually have a problem with the hatswichts as is,since it slowly travels to the 3 and 9 positions,so if there's a bogey on 1 o'clock, you could easily spot him..

Does anyone know where the zoom function is on T master set up two? I've tried R3,and L2 and R2. I think i've read somewhere that R3 is the button for bombs in the full game? Is there a zoom function (i don't mean target cam) at all on this set up?

Also,is T master set up 1 designed for the stick without HOTAS or does it remap your buttons? English isn't my first language so sorry if it isn't too clear what i mean...''

Hi Anton,

could you please tell me where the zoom function is on set up 2 for the Thrustmaster T flight HOTAS X? I'm playing arcade for now,and i remember the pad had a zoom function, but i can't locate it on the stick.( i don't mean target cam)

Or does your announcement tomorrow clear up all things?

Thanks anyway!

Hi Anton,

could you please tell me where the zoom function is on set up 2 for the Thrustmaster T flight HOTAS X?

As far as I could tell there is no Zoom function with the TM2 setup.. I went through writing down the function for each button and they are all used up, since 4 are used for the flight commands.

I was wrong previously about the TM1 setup missing the flight commands though, until i found you could assign them by holding Triangle and using the hatswitch, maybe there is some bizzare way to do the zoom with TM2.

Looking forward to the 1c announcement about joysticks, since it seems to be the number 1 complaint from people playing the demo so far :)

Hey Pup,thanks! I suspected as much (no zoom ) it's hardly essential, but well, i wouldn't mind having it.

I really like my new T master HOTAS though..i had to get used to it a little, but now i don't even want to play with my regular pad anymore!

A bit of a shame about the deadzone/space on the stick as i frequently overshoot when targeting a bogey, but i'll work it out.

You got any good tactics for not overshooting your target? i try to strafe and compensate for it with some rudder, but that's not perfect either.

I'm curious too about the joystick announcement: my guess it'll be some news on bundles (stick + game) or something regarding more settings (maybe that hat switch thingy sorted out?) for sticks in a update/patch on psn.

Have you tried using the Thrustmaster 1 setup? That has everything you need mapped.. and since you have the T.Flight Hotas X, you can manually switch buttons using the joytsick if you feel the need.

Aye, deadzone is one of the annoyances I have found, it can be quite fiddly to make small adjustement.. I actually found the normal controller was better for this particular thing, even in realistic or sim mode. Yeh, the rudder is quite sensitive too, and if you press it too much it springs back making you spray your bullets all over the place anyways :D

I made a post here (http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showpost.php?p=93800) about my thoughts on using the T.Flight Hotas X with BoP.

Ok, I'll start the wild and completely baseless rumors now.

PS3 will support the logitech G940 with rudder pedals, force feedback, and everything else; PLUS head tracking with playstation eye!

Ok, I'm probably reaching a bit.

Continued, PS3 will support the old Saitek X45 HOTAS stick :-P (I can dream, can I?)

@ Pup: Haven't tried the nr.1 setup yet..i'll try tomorrow, see if it works for me.Forgive my total noobness, but this is the first time i've actually bought and played with a flightstick,...so bear with me: I've read your other topic (thanx again, btw!) but if i understand correctly, i can map all functions wichever way i choose?? Isn't that a feature the HOTAS has out of the box?

Also, holding the order button and giving orders with the hatswitch sounds a lot better than how you do it in set up nr. 2...but, do you still have hatswitch freelook when you aren't using the order button?

I'll give it a go tomorrow as i've said.(hopefully with a brand new copy of the game!)

Pup

With this flightstick you can swap over buttons functionalities and axes, so as long as a function is already mapped to one of the buttons, you can move (swap) it to another. For example, you could swap round the missile and bomb buttons, if that suited you better.

The hatswitch does indeed work the same as with TM2 when set to TM1 while not holding the orders button.

^ Nice!! Thanks for the info. But,there's no way to map a zoom function on Setup 1.only swaps? oh well..i guess i'll live with that!

So where is the special ps3 announcement?

Yea, I'm waiting too. Got the game now, but waiting to see if any more news on joystick support before I pick one.

So depending on this news, my joystick cost could be anywhere from 50 - 299 dollars (G940 = $299).

The G940 would be sweet as that would take care of my ps3 and PC needs when BOB finally hits.

Yup, I'm in the same position. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long...

Any idea how the XBOX 360 patch for the sticks wheel breaks is coming? It's really disheartining to have such a beautifull game, and I can't play it with my stick because I flip every time I land...:(

Other than that...10 out of 10 Anton!
