Another great review came from Console Monster. BoP again got 9/10!!!
"IL-2 builds on existing simulation titles that have been landing onto consoles recently, and is probably the best combat flight simulation title I have played on consoles to date." - comments the author.

8/10 will do nothing

A magzine like EDGE giving an 8 does something imho =)

You will always find that some games don't have the same appeal for the masses as FPS's. A really good race game like Colin McRae really didn't do much in the US untill Codemasters made it more 'american'. I hope alot of people will pick up this game together with their PS3 slim. It's one great looker =)

all of the assists have been turned off, no radar, no HUD and limited ammo, though this is for the pros only.

I thought ammo was unlimited?

fully immersive hanger where you can walk around the planes and read up on all of their stats.

So will be controlling a little guy walking around?

This is excellent news thanks for the heads up.

9/10's wow ... just GREAT. That is why i said earlier

Seems it is going to happen. 9/10 will draw attention of some of the general public. 8/10 will do nothing but 9's ... that is another thing entirely:)

(i'll drop some lines on my clansite ... nobody is into flight as we are into shooters, but you never know. As 2nd genre, i'd prefer them to play BoP over FM3:))

I love flying games, check my games played on 360 and you'll see i have played them all and got pretty good score for them all.... then all the shooters... i have high score for them to I love COD. Think its an epic game, cant wait for the new one.

I love them both, they offer different things. Just something about flying over kent with a hurricane though that a G36c cant do in cod4.

Meristation Review IL-2 Sturmovik Birds Of Prey (X360)

Gaijin Entertainment and Digital Bros opt for flight simulation with arcade dyes through IL-2 Sturmovik, a video game that hits stores in early September imminent and aims to capture in a realistic and faithful some of the fighting mythical air occurred during the Second World War. The followers of the genre who wish to expand their hobby into Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in addition to Nintendo DS and PSP portable deliveries can do so without fear and concerns.

The great advantage of IL-2 Sturmovik is intended to cover the widest possible range of amateur players to the genre of flight simulation. With this new arrival to license the consoles, Gaijin Entertainment plasma its intention to offer a product that appeals to both die-hard fans of these titles as those that newcomers to the digital entertainment industry, desire to try to get experience at the controls of a fighter plane of mid-twentieth century.

Air Force plural

How is this versatility for a game that a priori belongs to a genre for a small audience? Gaijin Entertainment The choice was clear from the beginning to bet on three game modes and different difficulty levels applicable to each and every one of the fifty missions offered by the main game mode. The first difficulty or gameplay that we face is 'Arcade', which is aimed at all those inexperienced players in the genre and wanting to play games with help from the program. With this side we can have any type of camera-third person, first, from cabin-and the interface always guide us all objectives. In addition, we have no limitation on continuations.

The second option, which straddles the total simulation games and distended, is how 'realistic', that we will see the plane from a third person perspective, maintain a clean interface, dispense with a large number of aid but, on However, a monitoring system will provide deeper and not so attended, increasing the difficulty of each mission. The last option is the modality 'simulation', which as its name indicates squeeze seek the greatest possible degree of simulator. Maintaining the view from inside the cabin and deep method of control, players will face the same objectives as in the previous modes, but with greater difficulty.

Although these three aspects are considered, a priori, three different difficulty levels, the changes proposed in each of the missions the gameplay are enough to consider quasi independent game modes. We will see the same missions, yes, but from a different perspective and, above all, with three different approaches developed to push, and without diminishing the quality of the product may meet highly differentiated user groups.

The main game mode of IL-2 Sturmovik Bird of Prey, ie single-player campaign, take us in six campaigns of World War II occurred between 1940 and 1945, with examples such as The Battle of Britain, Battle of Berlin The Battle of the Bulge, the invasion of Sicily and Korsun fighting. The player will not travel out of context to these sites because the title will take advantage of cut-scenes with real images and dubbing into Castilian for reporting the status of the mission and its historical implications. Thus, during the campaign so we will have to meet to end offensive missions as a squadron of transport and defensive and protect an airfield or the city of Stalingrad. The objectives to be achieved may, in addition, multiple, forcing us to organize our tactics previously. Neither are the secondary objectives.

Tactical Combat

In this quest to exterminate the enemy ships come into play which presents the dye tactical IL-2 Sturmovik. Players can select a particular target of the stage-or mobile-and fixed positioning the squadron of ships accompanying us to act offensively or defensively depending on mission requirements. The command system fits properly in the interface and gameplay of the game, and allows to change strategy at any point in the game, no breaks and in real time. Run with all tactical mastery is not possible without the catalog of weapons that the aircraft will present the game, with a roster of comprehensive and realistic flying machines, which includes historic references both the Allies and the Axis as the Blenheim MK IV, I. 16, the IL-2, BF 109 F-2 or the HE 111 H-6, among others.

As regards control, and as we noted in our impressions, IL-2 Sturmovik is a game that works with solvency, as it is specially optimized for the capabilities of the console controller. While with the spreaders analog control the airplane by moving the pointer and other parameters such as acceleration, since the directional panel give orders to squad with us. With the approaching viewer triggers point and shoot each of the three weapons that can include airplane bombs, missiles and machine gun. Change third person perspective the camera in the cabin is for the remote control buttons, like the process for setting targets. Finally, we will have a menu where you can see the objectives to be met, and the landing gear to extract by pressing "Select".

The multiplayer will allow us to connect to Xbox Live and Playstation Network to fight in four different game modes that reflect the variety of missions. In Air Combat is the classic free mode where players fight each other without restriction, all against all. Team Battle is mixing between the tactics and action as two teams will face each other in real time organizing to overthrow all competing aircraft. The attack mode follow the steps in putting in Team Fortress screen two teams must finish with all the points of land of the enemy while defending their own. The last option is making Aerodrome, where we have to secure these positions, initially neutral, landing on them.

With a full campaign mode, an advanced range of independent missions, multiplayer modes and three different ways to address the items, the duration of IL-2 Sturmovik will be high and will exceed ten hours. For those wanting more Gaijin always has reserved 50 achievements and extras such as unlockable items included in the player profile: the library will teach historical aspects of the text format outdated missions, tactical maneuvers, since we can visualize the modeled hangar 3D planes of the two factions. No lack of information about the four pilots protagonists of adventure, with designs and pictures of the process of creating each one of them.
Graphically, IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey maintains a remarkable level. The game, which will surprise us for most of its scenarios, correctísimo has a draw distance that will convey objectives distance away in height as much as we like to do organized attacks and move through the air without losing eye of the stage. The rapprochement between the plane and the scenario is implemented through a realistic and constant transition. We forget, therefore, sudden jumps or unexpected impacts of graphical errors.

Each scenario will be tied to a real mission of the Second World War, so we visit sites with a true historical background as the cities of Stalingrad, Berlin and Sicily. The action, as we say, goes with our squadron of moving freely around the stage, finding graphic limitations that lead us to slow our steps through the excellent extensions thereof. From the vantage point of the ship vislumbrarenos extensive prairies, cultivated fields, coastal areas and vast natural spaces 13 million trees in all maps of the game, according Gaijin-and a myriad of environments.

The explosions and effects streak also a level of remarkable quality. Our flights will be accompanied by falling aircraft shot down by enemy bullets and exploding on the ground, capable of hitting other aircraft in flight by dragging them to death, or by vessels that explode in flight because of enemy air forces. There will also head-on collisions between aircraft and other risky maneuvers where we need to sharpen our flying skills to stop the fire consumed the plane's wings. Although IL2-Sturmovik met in the visual field, for some situations, changes in camera-we noticed some drops in frame rate per second.

We were particularly struck by the soundtrack of which is a step above what we usually hear in other titles of this and other genres. The items and menus will invite us to listen carefully orchestrated major themes composed by the majestic Jeremy Soule (Guild Wars, Company of Heroes, Oblivion) which fit perfectly with the war theme of the title and account for the mood required for each mysticism one of the fighting to remember that we are exposed to several episodes of World War II.

Conclusion

Gaijin Entertainment and Digital Bros is launching a product consummate and complete in content, offering a comfortable number of hours of playtime fun for fans of the genre of aviation. Those who have never agreed to games of this genre will also enjoy the more arcade side of IL-2 Sturmovik, something to be welcomed. Graphically the game is the highest level in detail settings and effects. The only problem we found is the rate of frames per second, that in certain situations, changes in camera-suffers visibly. However, IL-2 Sturmovik is a video game level with a technical and tactical quality and multiplayer options, without dazzle, entertain. Aviation enthusiasts with consoles at home, are allowed to take off from this airfield.

The Best

Graphically detailed and impressive, with high-level effects
The amount of content and tasks is high
Unlockable extras, historical information, etc.
Three game modes, both for advanced players heading to newcomers.

The Worst

The multiplayer is not too innovative, but is there and is grateful -
Small drops 'frame rate'

8/10 - "Very Good"

I look every day to see if IGN has posted their review - IGN, Kotaku, gamespot and metacritic are probably the most respected amongst the gaming community, after your own opinion of course.

Actually its IGN, Gamespot, and GameRankings those are the review sites that drive sales. Getting a 9 on IGN or Gamespot or averaging a 90% on Gamerankings something that is much tougher to do(though no way this game averages a 90 on Gamerankings).

Gamerankings is far more more popular then Metacritic as far as sites that compile, and average videogame reviews. Also Gamerankings is totally fouced on videogames while Metiacritic is not.

As far as the game getting a 9 on IGN or Gamespot I would be pretty surprised if that happen. I expect it to get somewhere in the 8's on both sites.

I haven't been this hyped for a xbox360 game since gta4.

with gta4 it was all "hype", they released screenshots of cars jumping off transporters and fingerless gloves and people hanging off helicopters - none of these things actually happen in-game, very sneaky

thing is with BOP, we haven't been tricked, Anton has been honest with us at every step, example: the German cockpit thing.

Actually on GTA 4, you do have some people hanging on the side of the helicopters, and cars jumping off transports :D

ON TOPIC: I thought this review was fairly good, the reviewer seemed to know what he was talking about, and actually seemed to have gotten his hands on the demo, and tried it out. I think the 9/10 rating is fair :D

Yep, I am agree with what people said; What ever you want, Arcade or Sim Flight, BOP is from far better that HOE. I Mean I love flight sim as IL2 on PC. So for me there is no doubt, BOP is for me, but I have done this afternoon just for fun the Battle of Britain mission on Arcade mode and it was really fun ! I think a fan of Arcade game will look for a game that's first of all is fun and beautiful to spend a good time. So...BOP is both on arcade mode. So for me no possible Choice, BOP is definitely THE ONE to own.
I will tell when a French review is available but if most of the review are so good for the moment is there is a reason: this game is damned good ! :)
no one can put a bad score for this game. Only people who dont know nothing about Sims...and in case, you don't have to take care of this bad score.

It would be ABSURD if you wouldn't buy the game

(think of the chance of somebody actually finding&posting on THIS forum and NOT buying the game, that is near zero ... having found this forum AND posting on it says you've got a serious interest in BoP. Now with the 9/10 flying around you have no choice but to buy the game ... simple really:))

Actually if you know me I talk about videogames a lot more then I actually play then. There has been lots of games where I spent a lot of time talking about then a month or 2 before release, but then never actually playing then. In fact I haven't even touched a videogame since late July.

If BOP was coming out in Oct-Dec I wouldn't even be paying attention as there are games I really want to play during those months, and I only have a casual, moderate interest WWII Flight games.

Also of note the College Football Season begins on Thursday, and I am a HUGE College Football fan, and there will be 5 straight days of College Football(Thursday, Friday, Satruday, Sunday, and Monday). So I don't know if I will pick up BOP on release or not.

Actually on GTA 4, you do have some people hanging on the side of the helicopters, and cars jumping off transports :D
Not only that, you can jump and hang onto choppers yourself, though opportunities for this are pretty much limited to multiplayer with another player piloting the chopper. I have used this to pick up the boss off a boat in the Cops n Crooks mode, and also to pick up team mates who are down in the water itself.

Why would you talk about games and then not play them, then expect your opinion to be taken seriously? The game is getting great reviews so far, and to date only one sad, lonely little man has had anything particularly negative to say about it. Gamespot will most likely go 9/10 on BoP, just like everybody else is currently. The 9/10 will bring in more people who may not have shown an initial interest in the game. Once again, your fabulous business sense shines through. How is it that nobody has run you over with a truck yet?

You can never take a Eurogamer review as just a number I thought the review text itself (which mentions a lot of MP options BTW) and the comments section..er comments... from the reviewer pretty much justify the score he gave it.
7/10 is a good score from Euro, its more along the same scoring scale as Edge.

Basically the review has one big flaw. It compares to PC. Why would it. What use is it to say 'you are better of playing the pc version' if you only have a 360/ps3? The argument is flawed.

I have a PC capable of running it, but I would never bother. BoP may not offer the same level of realism, but I cannot play 2001 flight sims anymore without vommiting - the ground just looks ugly...

Also I don't care too much about reviews when I liked the demo. Tastes are just too different.

One very worrying thing that I've noticed is that I've seen alot of comments on the internet from people who don't know the game who won't be getting it simply because they couldn't get the controls to work with the gamepad in realistic or sim mode !!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is such a shame seeing as the moment you turn down the sensitivity the entire game changes and becomes so much fun. But now the they've tried the demo and can't play it and think they need a flightstick if they wan't to play it on any other mode than arcade.

Nothing more to say :

"IL-2 Sturmovik was already the greatest combat flight sim ever made, and Birds of Prey makes it prettier and more manageable without losing what makes Sturmovik... Sturmovik. Even with a handful of unfortunate omissions it's the best air combat game we've ever got to grips with, and the best possible start to a franchise which deserves by rights to be as long-lived on console as it is on PC."

I gotta ask, why in the hell would Metacritic use this crap review for its composite?

6/10 score?

The moron clearly has no interest in flight sims to begin with, so has no business reviewing the game.

The statement about how flying in Battlefield 1943 is more fun than IL2, clearly shows a bias.

For the same reason I wouldn't offer my opinion on World of Warcraft (I just don't enjoy that type of game), this retard should wise up and realize flight sims are not for him and not offer his worthless opinion. Metacritic needs to start being more selective about what constitutes a quality review.

The Acegamez review gives me the mental image of how a small child gets frustrated with something containing even a small amount of depth or complexity - poor bastard.

Had lots of fun completing the campaign on simulator and completing most of the single missions. I then went on multiplayer and wasnt too impressed.

The kill system is just so harsh, I shot the hell out this plane in the air, it stalled, was smoking, wings must have been demolished etc. But it took a long time to crash and I didnt get the kill. I coped with this for a while but its just so harsh, it has happened way too frequently for it to be forgivable or justified.

Also, I dont like the controller. I want a joystick, but the AV8R is just too expensive for me at the moment.

Most importantly, Il 2 1946. Went back to it the other day and I just thought wow. Dropped into the FW and messed up my takeoff and I was just in awe. I didnt use my rudder properly and the plane started swerving to the right side and my right wing just clipped the rader/watch tower and just saw the most unbelievable crash ever.

Why take this feature out? Why not show off the most impressive damage model I have ever seen? I just dont get it. Instead the plane just blows up..

Anyway I take to the skies and start getting hits and really start struggling with my plane. It catches smoke, then catches fire, then explodes. Its strange but it was exhilirating just to struggle with a doomed bird in the air. So why implement a silly auto eject system?

The way the aircraft icons work are also pefect. The icons only start fading in when within 6KM or something like that to the target, and also fade in and out perfectly when clouds are involved. There is just no balance like this when comparing Realistic and Simulator difficulties. Sim is fine, but awkward looking around doesnt help.

And I also have a brilliant Saitek Cyborg EVO with my pc, and I cant afford to spend more on another joystick for my 360.

I can only hope the patch makes this game a lot better, I get the feeling everything is there, it just seems limited due to very stupid decision making as I have highlighted above. It may not seem like much, but this is why I love Il 2 1946. Its just so immersive and so free, you can do anything you bloody want.

I hope the patch helps, it seems like so far most of my problems should be ironed out, because if it does I will buy a used copy for my 360.

Im going to keep a lookout on the forums. ;)

Gamefocus review - 9/10 and "Editors Choice" award
"For those who have been hoping for an incredible flying game to play on their home consoles, the wait is over. The variable controls, the authenticity and the sheer enjoyment of taking down Axis planes is something that everyone can enjoy. From top to bottom, IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey is an absolutely incredible journey and certainly one of the biggest surprises of the year; don’t hold back, pick this one up."

"Gaijin Entertainment showed hou a very realistic game can be brought on console without the need of mapping the controls on a whole keyboard. The Sim mode is very challenging and entertaining, but the Arcade and Realistic modes allow everyone to enjoy the game without having to master all the aerodynamics laws."
