That's odd that it would ship on a Wed and not a Mon or Tue? Either way I'm not complaining about it being early since I was really dreading both IL-2 and DiRT 2 releasing on the same day. :)

I used to work at Gamestop.
When something ships without a street date. (To my knowledge there is no street date for IL2)
That means that the stores typically get it the next day. So expect for the stores to have it on the 3rd, (Thursday).
It's weird though, most games always ship on a Monday and it hits shelves on a Tuesday. I hope this isn't some kind of mistake.
I'm going to go check on the 2nd just in case they get it a tad early.
PedroTheGoat
08-27-2009, 02:43 AM
By the way, I went by my local Gamestop and double checked with the store manager that the ship date has indeed changed, instead of being a mistake on their website.
She confirms that her computers also hold the Sept. 2nd release date.
Ha, i love how wishful thinking makes people take one piece of info that contradicts with all other info as gospel.
Good luck i hope it does ship on the 2nd, but i think it's unlikely. I'll cross my fingers for you though!

ship date does not = date stores get the game
Actually for some parts of the country it does. It just depends on where you live. Some parts of the country get their games on the ship date. Sadly the rest of us have to wait until the next day including me.
The Gamestops where I live don't get games til the morning after the ship date.
Anywaythis is very, very shocking. It is very, very rare for a game that is only 2 weeks from release to get bumped up a week(or in this case 6 days)
This 100% legit though. The only way Gamestop moves a game this close to release is if the Publisher told them to.
BOP now is coming out 3 weeks before Heroes Over Europe which gives it even a huge advantage. As long as it gets decent reviews I will be getting BOP.
Of course with the game being moved up 6 days at the very last minute it might make it hard for the reviews to get out in time.
dennis580
08-27-2009, 04:48 AM
Anyway if you preorder at Gamestop you will get a automated call telling you when the game will arrive at your Gamestop.
Really you should know weather or not the Gamestops in your area get games on the ship date or not. Some parts of the country get games on the ship date, and some do not.

I have been following videogame release dates very, very closely for a very long time. This is absolutely 100% legit. If Gamestop changes a release date THIS CLOSE TO RELEASE it is always 100% legit.
You will either have the game in on Sept 2nd or Sept 3rd depending on where you live. If you preorder at Gamestop they will give you a automated call ahead of time telling you when the game will arrive at your store.
The stores where I live it is almost always the morning after the ship date, but in some parts of the country stores will get the game on the ship date.

Right on.... good sheat. Although the last game I preordered they told me they were going to call.....I never got a call. I just walked in myself. I'll be going in on the 2nd, if it ends up being the 3rd no biggie....if it ends up being the 8th, I'm going to be POed!!! j/k

Moving this game up is one of the smartest business decisions that has ever been made for the 360. Pushing a game back generally creates disgust and kills off a lot of interest, but you move a game up and you are the new Messiahs of the gaming world. Based on the demo, it's a great game and it will weed out the little kids fast. I am a pilot, and I put the planes in the demo through a series of tests in terms of flight control. Needless to say, they have an extremely accurate model for low-wing aircraft.

Actually it is NOT a good business decision to wait til ONLY 2 WEEKS BEFORE RELEASE, and then bump the game up 6 days. Read the 2 posts below your to find out why. That is just too close to release to be bumping up the date.

Also another thing is some people who are interested in the game may not find out about the release date change in time. This could cause them to miss the game, and end up skipping it altogeather.

Oh Dennis, once again you grace us with your superior knowledge of the marketing world. Moving the game forward by a week was a stroke of genius! (thank you for that BTW). But now they are moving it forward by 6 days! (why that is not an exact week, how will my OCD deal with such a puzzle!!!???). Inexcusable!..next they will tell me that I can't eat at the same resturaunt for breakfast everyday at exactly 7:30 (and my table better be vacant or heads will roll!!!).
I know all of these schedule changes are taking thier toll (and we can't have the chairman of game release dates stressed or we may never see another title). So here is something to keep your enormous brain busy untill you wait for the games release (whatever day that might be).

OK, what coloring book are you getting your economics knowledge from? It is an excellent idea. Moving a game up = hype. Hype = sales. Those people are in a very small minority. Gamers are used to having games pushed back and as such, to move a launch date up creates an instant satisfaction towards the general market. Very few people who are interested in this game will miss the new launch date. If they are really that interested, how could they miss it? You cannot possibly say that a decision that satisfies the majority is bad because it dissatisfies a very, very small minority. Don't argue something just for the sake of arguing, especially something as clear-cut as this. Moving a laungh date up is the equivalent of completely undercutting the competition. It goes against the trends that have been set for decades. You can try and explain how making a decision that thousands and thousands of people love, whereas four or five don't, is a bad decision from a business standpoint. But, it won't get you anywhere and all your arguing will never make you right. Think before you argue.

I didn't get the traditional Gamestop call for BoP tonight saying it would be in tomorrow, so at this point I am hoping for the call either A) tomorrow night; or B) Wed. night. Everybody loves "hi, this is Ashley at Gamestop, calling to let you know that <out of sync voice> should be arriving tomorrow morning/afternoon. If you have any games to trade in towards the purchase price be sure to bring them."
You get the call enough times, it comes naturally. We used to get calls from some other Gamestop girl, but I think she was killed by a wolverine and left on the side of the road in Wisconsin. Hey I don't know if that's a fact, just telling you what I heard, or otherwise just made up. But it did used to be a different girl.

Just a heads up; you might want to call your local Gamestop tonight to see if the game is in.
I went to my GS, and he said that it is in the system, meaning that if he has the game off the UPS truck, he can sell it today. He also told me to check back with him later on this afternoon, after 3pm(when UPS stops in).
Can't hurt to make a phone call, right? Especially with such a high potential pay off?

Don't get your hopes up too much. I am pretty sure that Thursday is going to be the magic day. Ship date means just that... They put them in the mail on that date. I of course am going to check tomorrow just in case... But I am not getting my hopes up.
Like I said in previous posts... I used to work at Gamestop for a while and when an item says it is going to ship on a certain day... We would always get it the day after.
There were exceptions to that though. Let's hope our beloved BOP is one of those exceptions.
