A new topic for us to describe what we prefer in each mode, and which one you will play...

For my part, I love the realism in Sim mode, the flight model of the plane,
the fact that there is no alert for "stalling" or "pull up"
the fact that I can get my engine down with no power (how damages are so real)
.... etc

BUT damned it is so hard to find and follow enemy fighters (bombers are ok) that is a real problem. (especially with my low def TV, and how unconvenient is the look around feature)
In tiger hunt it's almost impossible to find FWs.
One had following me for nearly 10mn without me noticing him. and I wasn't able to see him.

So my heart is balancing I haven't decide yet if i will play the campaign in realistic or sim mode. and it is the same for the multiplayer.

What have you decided on your side ?

PS/ that's the first time in my life that I play a demo so often, I spend all my time since the beginning of the week on that game and I totally forgot COD4

I've come to the grim realization that I'll have to play the game on Arcade(even though that wasn't an option). I play with the 360 controller and there is no absolutely no way in hell I'll ever be able to bring down any of the FW190s without the target tracking. In fact, I don't think I've ever even gotten a shot on one on relaistic or sim! They outturn me and are waaaay faster. I've had to turn down the Elev/Ail sensitivity to keep the P-51 in the sky but it's still a lumbering piece of junk....

It's ok. I can admit it................... I'm an Arcade guy. ;)

I will play realistic as arcade won't be real enough and I have no sim exp. I really want the HOTAS but does anyone know how the look around feature will be controlled on it?

I'll probably play Arcade and Realistic until I grow tired and need a bigger challange.

For me, Sim is just iceing on the cake and will insure that I will be playing BoP for quite a while.

Seeing how I don't have a stick as of yet, I'll be playing in arcade. Maybe try some realistic with the controller. That is if the US demo comes out tomorrow.

If the demo is out tomorrow, I'll be ordering the stick. Once I get the stick, realistic and some sim hours.

I can't wait for the MP though! Even though I'll prob get my arse shot down.... I think that I will have a lot of fun.

Can't wait to see you guys there!

I am really hoping that this leads to future titles and more flight simulator games coming to consoles!

Sim all the way. I've been waiting for a game like this to come down the pike for a long time. Every other console flight game i've ever seen has been met with a resounding "meh." until now.

After playing the demo for a few days now, I`ll be giving arcade a miss when I get my hands on the game. I`m starting to get a few bombers on sim, but I`m finding it difficult to locate the fighters. I`ll go thru the campaign on realistic first, then sim.

I'll be playing on Sim, but I have a feeling that I will have to switch back to realistic for some of the more difficult missions.

I love Sim mode because it gives you more control, e.g. flaps and trim BUT I have the same issue as a few people of having an SDTV, it is seriously hard to find fighters on my set! I reckon I'll play Sim as much as I can and switch to Realistic when I'm not able to find anything! Eventually I'll get a nice HDTV and then it'll be Sim all the way!!

Realistic

Arcade feels to much like a plane on wheels. No feeling of gravity and shooting down planes is just way to easy. On sim it's too hard for me to make out friend of foe and i feel cramped in that wobbly cockpit =)

Neither are you my friend. Did you have to sit through weeks of classroom work before you could even try the demo or 1943?

I don't like that comment. You PC guys really need to come back down to earth.

For the campaign realistic (just because the ground targets are so hard to identify), sim second time through. For online sim (as long as there are sim rooms up).

@P-51

No i'm not a pilot. I'm not even a qualified driver at 36 =) Nor am i a space marine or a general leading some army to victory.

I am however a gamer and someone who likes to read about history. Since history and gaming come together in such a nice way for me at realistic difficulty I'm more than happy to part with some cash and enjoy this game.. If that makes me some lower lifeform NonPilot in your book, so be it.

Now going home and download the PS3 demo and decide if i'll get the 360 or the ps3 version.

On topic though - think i'll play most of the campaign on sim, but can see myself switching to realistic on ground attack missions as i find it almost impossible to find/hit the ground targets

Sorry I was a bit tart in my earlier post. But face to face, or half a world apart, there is no need for a disrespectfull comment like yours. All he said was that he preferrs a certin mode. Nothing wrong with that.

It's cool you have been up in the co-pilots seat. I wish I could say the same. It just is'nt in the cards for me i'm afraid.

And yep, I have a 360.

I'm not sure whether I'll do realistic or sim for the campaign, but I'm gonna start the MP on sim difficulty. If you pros kick my ass I'll go back to realistic!;-)

I've found sim the most fun primarily due to the challenge though I wish the freelook was better implemented for the PS3 controller. Holding down R3 has always been a pain. The only other option I've found is using the D-pad and while it's better, it's not as comfortable as something like holding down L1 while using R-stick.

Great demo btw.

Lets keep peace.

Too bad we even need a reminder.

I'm going to try my luck at Sim. I fly RC planes and have always wanted to stick a camera on one and fly by wire. Now I'll be able to do that and not lose hundreds of buck when I get shot down...! (hoping I'll eventually be the one doing the shooting down, but probably not for a while against some of you vets)

Sim for me in campaign and MP.
The only thing that worries me a bit is that I just cannot follow one of those 190 D9 without going into a flat spin... they are so fast.

anyway, I don't even feel like I can make a sharp turn with the P51...
How do you guys do?

I practice daily with the demo on sim mode, and that is the only way i will play this when it hits the shelfs.

I'll be playing Sim, however depending on how detailed the briefing's are, I might have to give in and play a few mission on Realistic first. It took me so long to find the targets on Tiger Hunt! lol Once I found them, I marked out landmarks in my head and could repeat attack runs no probs.

But you don't get any bearings to follow do you?

It's tough because although the post processing effects make the game look gorgeous, they make viability difficult! :)

I got the same problems on tiger Hunt, spotting the enemy is so difficult, and you only have a few seconds to react and place your shots.
I try also to remember the terrain and started attacking from about 1000 ft.
I made the mistake the whole time engaging just over tree level.
That does not work very well on that mission.
Fly up, the FW don“t do much harm anyway and engage from 1000 ft and above. Works much better.

I think I'll probably be going with Realistic, it seems like a good balance for me.

Arcade is much too easy, but it can be really hard to identify your targets with Simulator (especially those ground targets).

After playing through the demo levels a couple of times on realistic I was able to play well enough on Simulator, so maybe I can go back for a second Simulator playthrough, especially if there were some achievements involved.;)

I remember reading people saying that this game wouldn't be able to touch the original IL-2 because it is on a "Console", and couldn't be made "sim" enough.
:-P
Sim mode is freaking hard trying to hit these targets, and seeing people post the same makes me smile.

Good work Gaijin!

I like "Realistic" as it has a very good balance. Not too easy as you can still stall/spin etc.. but still allowing some hand holding as far as identifying your target. I have been playing Sim also.

One extra step with Realistic is to disable the HUD as this makes finding the targets MUCH harder. You no longer get the red and yellow arrows or even the red names of the planes. It does however allow you to padlock on to your enemies. In this way at least you can tell friend from foe. It also forces you to use the free look like you would in full sim as the padlock is often restrictive. I will definitley be setting a few MP rooms up this way.
