Is it possible to install the original IL-2 on a apple computer without using Bootcamp and windows?

You need some kind of emulation for it to work on a mac.

Fusion is very good >> http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/

also

Parallels >> http://www.parallels.com/uk/products/desktop/

Alternatively if you really have some time on your hands and you want to go the Linux/Wine route >> http://www.freewebs.com/carbonfreeze/wine/wine.html

Also >> http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7102

Thanks. I will check it out. If I run Parallels do I have to partition my harddrive?

I run il-2 1946 on my Macbook

As far as I know there is no way to run xp progammes at decent performance,
without partitioning your drive & installing XP.

I started using bootcamp,
& now use refit:
http://refit.sourceforge.net/

Also, if I attempt to use openGL il-2 locks up.
so I'm using directx for graphics

I've never run "original IL-2" onthe mac,
but I did try Pacific Fighters,
& pre-patch clean install had my graphics upside down.
It's been a while, but I think the problem went away when I sintalled all the patches.

Note:
Bootcamp & Parrallels ARE NOT EMULATORS,
XP runs on Intel Macs natively.

Thanks for the info much appreciated.

So the game may not run well using Parrallels?

I really don't want to have to partition my drive just to run IL-2. I've had a mac now for 4 years and never needed to use a pc and I would hate to have to do that just for one game.

Parallels still requires a full install of XP on a PC partition.
What it lets you do is run windows & Mac OSX simultaneously,
so you can tab between windows programmes & OSX programmes.

I don't think you'll find a solution that lets you run il-2 without a full XP install.

But hey, I use Mac for everything else.. I've got a 30gb partition just for XP & il-2.

NICE Thanks for the help.

I think I love my mac to much to infect it with windows :-P
