If I want to go and buy a stick for the xbox 360. What's the best? to buy brand new in the shops.

The Aviator is your only option for new and easy to get. The Ace Edge isn't sold anymore other than extremely overpriced hoarders who may still have them. I think they're usually $200 on Amazon or Ebay. The Aviator is $$40-50.

Hi, All first post.
I'm a veteran of Warbirds in the late 90s, and a true addict. In fact my internet ID was forever set by Warbirds as Ragged (like my flying). I welcome the potential arrival of a decent sim on a console and have ordered an xbox jsut to run it on.
Anyway on to sticks. The Edge is clearly based on the Saitex x36 stick plastics I have gathering dust on top of my wardrobe. Perhaps IL and Saitek could do a deal/bundle?

Right so it seems the aviator is my only choice for a new purchase. I just have the feeling that something else is in the pipe line but I very much doubt this game will be pushing any hardware companies into making a new stick. Weird that MS dont have something out.
Anyway thanks for all the answers.
Does anyone here own the Aviator? Thoughts?
Oh right just saw this from anton
"Details about joysticks are planned to be released soon, as community update.
Until that - I am not allowed to provide information, sorry.
Publisher already had moved some community updates few times, due to unknown reasons. Should be in a week."
Looks like I'll be holding off.

There is another answer from Anton found here: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showpost.php?p=83841&postcount=9
That's wrong! There is no stick which will work for all systems!
Aviator for Xbox 360 & PC (http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/av8rxboxv2.htm)
Aviator for Playstation 3 & PC (http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/av8rps3v2.htm)
I think there is a good flight stick from Thrustmaster, which works with the PC and PS3 too:
T.Flightstick Hotas X (http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=149&PlatformID=12)
But we don't have a confirmation from Anton, whether these sticks will work with BoP. I would wait to buy one of these sticks, until we haven't got any affirmation. All console compatible joysticks currently available om market will work with BoP.

Cheers mate, I'll hold off a week and see what anton says. I really just want to invest in the best at this point.
the best will be ca $240+ U.S.
however the aviator will better suit if you're a lefty or have a joint bank account;)

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I hope for the same as well. I don't think getting a 'used' Ace Edge for $200+ isn't woth it. An IL2 themed flight stick would be neat, but since the publisher tried to get rid of them, it might not happen.

So due to Antons comments could there be potential for some well know PC ones to work on the 360?
Roadie
07-26-2009, 07:30 AM
I think not, because there's the problem with the steering wheels too. In acc. to Thomas Jackermeier from Fanatec (company which makes steering wheels for PC, PS3 and XBox360), there's another electronic in it than for the PC compatible ones, which are in the majority of cases also compatible to the PS3. All wheels for the PC, instead of the new PWTS, aren't compatible with the XBox360, but a lot of them are compatible for the PS3 too. So it could be possible, that some FFB flight sticks for the PC are compatible for the PS3 too.
Found here (http://www.gtrp.de/forums/showpost.php?p=1185885&postcount=224)
PWTS = Porsche Wheel Turbo S
He said (translated from german to english):
The electronics of the PWTS is doubled. At starting the wheel, you have to decide, whether starting the XBox360 electronics or the PC/PS3 electronics of the wheel. Therefore is the PWTS more expensive than the Fanatec Porsche GT3 RS Wheel.

Just keep in mind...
Though it is currently the best option on 360...
Most of the control options you see on the throttle side are dummies or duplicates.
Neither dial functions, there is little nub that is a duplicate d-pad, one of the switches on the thumb side is fake, another is a 3 way switch that toggles between Mic On-Off-On, and the index finger hat switch is all left stick click (regardless of the direction moved).
It's appearance definitely leads to believing that it is a much nicer controller than it actually is.

its for consoles , there would be no need to make the controller even more expensive
they are using the shell from saiteks old factory to produce them
the controller is GREAT for the consoles , but i agree MS should make a first party stick

I wasn't saying otherwise.
I have had mine since the day it came out with AC6, and it is definitely the best option on 360 currently.
It is just that one should be aware that its appearance is deceiving in representing what you are actually getting. I was actually a little bummed the day I got it, and I realized that half of the controls on the throttle were fake, gimped, or duplicate.
I most certainly would have still bought it knowing all that. It is just one of those things... Especially if someone is going to pay those ridiculous inflated prices currently, they should know that what they see isn't exactly representing what they get.

Not really well.
It was made before MS made a flight stick standard, and as such is a bit unorthodox.
There are also the Blazing Angels games which do not work at all with the flight sticks.
AC6, HAWX, and IL-2 are the only post standards games, and they all do support it.

a game reviever sad:
any other console flight game, with the left thumbstick handling pitch and rolling, and the right one handling acceleration and yaw. You can zoom in and stabilise the camera with the Left Trigger, which helps enormously with the hyper-accurate aiming system, and keep track of your current objective via a helpfully pointy yellow arrow.

Over G doesn't work correctly with flight sticks. The throttle won't work and the rudder is reversed. You have to use shoulder buttons to work the throttle.

Ah I didn't realize that he meant just flight games. If you search around on the web there is actually a list some where that shows which games added in support for the stick. When I say supported I mean that the buttons and controls are on the stick the way they should be, I don't mean using some insane button on the stick to do something that makes it impossible to play.
You can tell a game has support if the buttons that work on a controller are different on the stick. Example : If you playing a game with a 360 controller and the right trigger is fire, then you plug in your ace edge and the A button is fire then that game has support for the stick put into it.
If you plug in your ace edge and the fire button is still on the right trigger then your just using the stick to try and play the game with a controller layout and there wasn't support added to the game for the stick.
Thats all I'm saying. You can tell when they made a seperate layout so you can use the stick and you can tell when you just get lucky and can use it.

You used flight sticks or joysticks? They aren't necessarily the same thing.
I definitely prefer to use joysticks for games like Raiden Fighters, and many other games from back in the day, as well as with newer ones like N+ and Splosion Man.
The arcade sticks you now find pretty exclusively marketed for fighters on consoles are what were used most back in the day. Raiden Fighters specifically used that exact thing.

I had a couple small flightsticks that I used. I would say a flightstick because the stick was molded so your whole hand could use it and the fire button was on top for your thumb. Its different then a arcade stick.

Never had one for my Commodore 64. I had a ton of Atari 2600 controllers that I also used on my C64, which were definitely more akin to an arcade stick.
Especially with those simple control games of old though, there are so many options that work equally fine, and I suppose it most comes down to what you first learned on and became comfortable with.
I played most of those games like Gradius first in the arcades, and where I guess my affinity for arcade sticks with those types of games comes from my initial experiences with them, I have friends who first got those experiences on the NES that definitely prefer a d-pad.

MS did make a standard for flight sticks on 360 though. If a game supports the Ace Edge, then it also supports the Saitek Aviator, and any other new flight stick that a company makes.
Having that standard makes it easy for a developer to support flight stick hardware, without having to depend on the user having a specific one.
