View Full Version : When is your attack rating "too much" ?

Okay so I wandered into Demonis and picked up Xeona as a wife instead of Zombie Rina. Now I have the following equipped:

2 x Dragon Slayer swords ( haha yeah, after no good weapons for ages I get two of these  )
Elven Bow
Sword of Light
Telescopic Sight
Dead Skull

I'm using three units of archers:

Skeleton Archers ( Oh how I love them. )
Elven Archers
Hunters

Now I'm only playing on normal, but the "hover over" on attack says the max bonus is 300%, well my Hunters have an attack of 80 now. Is this overkill? I mean I don't think anything has a defense high enough to need that much attack right? Which means I could drop a weapon and take up a shield for more defense.

My hero has 33 attack right now ( +3 to archers from bow and +100% from Telescopic Sight ) and only 18 defense. Will this really cause any problems? I really should go sort my equipment out and see what other options I have.... Any advice is welcomed ^^

you can barely reach cap it is 300% indeed but its 3.3% atack more for one atack points more then ememy defense, so u need 90 attack when enemy defense is 0, but level 5 units will have 20-30 defense and with hero its another 20-30 so your 80 will reach just like 30 in crucial fights and its only 100, so far from cap . With dragon arrows u might reach that with hunter tough

Thanks. I'll probably keep the high attack, my archers are one shotting most enemies at the moment and with buffs / debuffs they can one shot any enemy in the game I've come across so far. ( I'm looking forward to starting a game on impossible now, one shotting stuff is cool but a little boring. )

Well you got pretty much nice set of items, be aware that you might not find telescope again and it will change much ... i have found it only in my 1 of 3 games

For a positive difference of your attack with enemy defense, the max is 60 not 90 if I'm not wrong, 300% means an increase of 200%, not 300% so it's 200/3.3 not 300/3.3.

A difference of 60 is still a lot like explains Elwin and with Dragon Arrows the max is reached by your Hunter.

When you fight an enemy hero and don't use Dragon Arrows you are very far from the max.

Non shooting units are for me more fun and more interesting to use with magic. But 3 archers stacks is something I never tried, the spell mass precision should be quite strong with that choice.

Yeah that's why I'm abusing it now hehe ;)

Yes, very strong hehe. It's just a shame skeleton archers don't have sniper :(

Dragon Arrows remove this sniper penalty.

Yeah, it's just a pain that my first spell in a fight is -always- Dragon Arrows ( well 9/10 fights ), because they're so powerful lol :) ( Spell balance is going to be another topic sometimes soon :!: ) I'd like to cast mass precision sometime as well haha. Ah well, I guess that's down to playing on normal where most fights never make it past 3 or 4 rounds.

I don't always need to, even out of range I have so many of them and so many buffs to ranged combat from items I can sometimes kill stacks without using dragon arrows. Which means my first spell in those cases is usually mass precision. Sometimes I'll use mass haste instead; depending on what I have in my army at the time. Sometimes I can risk running my skeleton archers forward a little so that they're not taking "out of range" penalties.

yes but dragon arow doesnt just make them sniper but also ignore enemys defence, i am ok on units lvl 1-2 it might be not needed since boost is not high but for heroes and high lvl uniits it a must be

Well there are other good first spell than dragon arrows. But well I see why with Skeleton Archer it's more interesting. For long range Mass precision could be better if you have 3 long range stack that are higher level. Myself I don't use enough those spells for long range units.

Well by the end of my game I was running:

1 Hunter stack ( sniper )
1 Elven stack ( sniper )
1 Skelly Archer stack ( No sniper )

I'd also managed to get a lot of crazy archer bonus items so I could one shot most enemies. If the enemies were melee I could wait with my skeleton archers, then fire once the enemy had moved closer, after casting mass precision of course :). If they had multiple ranged stacks, I'd usually end up using dragon arrows to make sure my skelly archers could lend their firepower without penalties.

I'm really looking forward to playing my Mage. Mass precision and Dragon arrows in the first round, or Mass precision and Demon/Dragon Slayer spell in the first round later in the game :) I was suprised there was no undead slayer spell though.
