Stuck in Chapter 6.....

i've read all the previous posts and none seem relevant to my query.
i've cleared all enemies and hit all lever switches, one of which was to
unlock the "crate" whatever or whereever it is.
in the attached screencap i'm wondering if i need to get across here
or is it what it seems, an impossible option.
any help getting past this point would be very appreciated.
any screencaps providing where i go from here would be very helpful.

The message for the lever should read "grate", not "crate", methinks. I was confused as well. The "grate" is the portcullis blocking your exit from this area. From where you stand in your screenshot, the portcullis is behind you to your left and, up a slope. If it hasn't opened then you've hit a bug. Try replaying from the last checkpoint.

The portcullis does not open unless you follow the path around to it. If you take a shortcut straight up the steep slope to the portcullis, it remains closed. If you do this, simply walk back along the path until you hit the trigger point and the portcullis will open.
