Eurogamer reviewed Cryostasis!
"Cryostasis is a brave, fascinating, often very beautiful game, but I find it impossible to recommend it - and not least because it runs like an exploded dog on most PCs. It's not quite creative enough - its environments fall into a monotony of samey rooms and bulkheads - and its combat is too clunky to be delicious. I'm certain that this is a game that some gamers will tuck into heartily, and happily. The ugly truth of the meal, however, is that's it's still frozen in the middle."
6/10
Altough i disagree with a few of his comments, let's hope others won't pull this game down. But hey,the user reviews will tell.Anyways,i'm buying it so or so.

Really agree with Eurogamer.
Decent and atmospheric game. But repetitiveness kills it. Let me summarize:
You walk a bit, enter a small room, a monster or two pop up, you kill them, walk a bit again, enter another small room, save a dead man through his memories, walk a bit, enter a small corridor, a monster is killed again and so on and on.
In the beginning this scheme works fine but till the end it gets boring and dull.
6/10 is a pretty good score. If you wanted something more and diverse, blame the devs for not torturing their brains more.
A good game is not made only with only one or two gimmicks.

i totally agree with that. but i'd gave it a little better score; coz i really love the atmosphere. there are alot of worse games that gained the equal score.

No, the game is great, there is a story behind everything, and some pretty innovative "cinematics" , puzzles too, amazing GFX and physX.

Same for me.Lukankata, you say these thing like we have to kill the same enemies, and do the same 'Mental Echo' quests over again.Different, tougher enemies appear and there is not just one 'Mental Echo' puzzle. You save each persons life another way, that's not really the same. That would be like if you say you find F.E.A.R.'s slowmo ability repetitive.Yes the 'Mental Echo' is the ability but you do it differently everytime. As for the surrounding being repetitive;what did you expect on a ship?It was moddeled after a real Russian icebreaker as far as i know and ships tend to have small places, tight corners, and a grey, moody color scheme.

The problem with most of these reviews is that the reviewers take this game to be a typical shooter. but how many times can you go to war take on 100 bad guys and walk out with out a scratch, while this plot is not broken or bad, its starting to get old. games like cryostasis are pioneering games that are trying to do more then just make you go to war all the time and beat "evil" all the time.

Swedish PC Gamer gave it 40/100
+ Cold
- Grey
- Hard
- The technic
- Loading times (I say WTF?!)
- Well, almost everything (...)
The guy who reviewed it probably had some serious things against it, even if you hate the game, you wouldn´t give it a score like that, and he said the colours of the game were boring (I think they are absolutely amazing).
The reviewers name was John Walker, he probably found his name in the cornflakes he takes for breakfast.
They also gave Necrovision 35/100.
I don´t want to buy PC Gamer anymore if they are haters like that, and I´m going to move to another country, but first, a well placed RPG-7 into their office.
Cryostasis is still the best game I´ve played, perfect atmosphere and everything.

He's a British reviewer, it's probably the PC Gamer UK review translated. I pretty much always disagree with him, so I'm not surprised he disliked YET ANOTHER game that I love.

It's really unbelievable how lots of gaming sites have such a low consideration of Cryostasis. They probably played just 10 minutes, or they take Crysis as the benchmark of today's FPSs. First, this isn't really an FPS, it's an adventure, an experience, I don't how to call it really, you have to play it. Presentation wise it's the most impressive game I've played since... well, ever. I did like Bioshock a lot but it's .1 below Cryostasis. The immersion in this game is complete, you almost feel the freezing wind, the claustrophobic interiors. I thought Resident Evil 2 was the most frightnening but, dear god, Cryostasis is even more scary. You look back and there's an undead dog staring at you, not knowing if it is going to attack. You open a door, you see a frozen man banging his mug and start to wonder what eerie purpose would make him do that.
What a mind blowing experience, the best I had in years.
Reviewers complain about the poor gunfight, the slowness of movements... they're fools I say! Even if those things are true they are, of course, not the primary features of a game which is not anything like other FPSs for narration and immersion.
Eurogamer might say locations are repetitive... ha! they're the ones who gave F.E.A.R. a 9/10, a game so repetitive I couldn't finish due to boredom.
Cryostasis scores 67/100 at metacritic. Truly unbelievable.

Well somethings got to be a benchmark. But that is nonsense.Cryostasis has a wonderful and colorful enviroment(in two words:beautiful graphics)I think it is way above the avarage games,in looks and in gameplay too.Certanly not the best, but it's a treasure among all the crap console ports we get lately(i know it's not a port, but we get mostly ports these days)Crysis is a good game, what's so wrong with being the number one game in the graphics department? If it's not Crysis, another game would take it's place,so who cares.Fact,or more likely an opinion:Cryostasis is a great game.Don't let UK snobs with chairs up their arses ruin games for you.;)

Question to moderator (or whoever knows).
I heard that the Russian version of the game has an old woman's voice reciting some Russian poem (of Gorky ?). People say that the voicing and sounds of the game are very good, which, undoubtedly, includes all those tidbits like passages from the Russian poetry. If I buy the English version of the game, will I still be able to hear those Russian sayings ? (I presume that the developers will not translate everything in English and leave the non-gameplay-essential bits in Russian like it was done in Stalker).

Thanks for answering. Can you tell me which soundwork (English or Russian) has the higher "production values" ? In other words, will the English-speaking players obtain the same kind of pleasure and satisfaction from listening as the Russian-speaking players of the Russian-only game get ?
I am asking this question because I am thinking which version to get, an English or a Russian one (I can play both) ? In these parts of the world, it is easier for me to get an English version.

Not having played the Russian version, I can't really respond - but I have played my fair share of badly voiced Russian to English-games in my time, and this game is definitely not one of them. I found the voice acting quite well done and enjoyable.

GameSpot review is out.
"These visual issues aside, Cryostasis's measured exploration and sense of frigid tension make it an experience unlike any other. Additionally, the flashback and health-replenishment mechanics aren't just interesting on their own, but also enhance the atmosphere and give weight to the enigmatic tale as it slowly unfolds. If you need the constant stimulation of flying bullets and sprays of blood, Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason likely won't inspire you. But if you appreciate slow-burning suspense, this adventure will keep you glued to the monitor to uncover the secrets buried deep within the inhospitable tundra of the Arctic circle."

There is a reason why I was looking for a Russian-language version of the game. I am currently playing the first Stalker (yes, I do !), and the appeal of the game is an immersion into the atmosphere. A great part of the immersion is the swearing of NPC gopniks (hoodlooms) in Russian, like "Hey, you, come here !" or "Guys, I caught a bullet !" which is very life-like.
I was hoping to find the same kind of narrative in Cryostasis where yells and comments in Russian are very life-like, and this would immerse me into the game (maybe the NPC sailors drink vodka, pat each other on backs and shout the comments in Russian). But maybe this is not that kind of a game where there is a place for the Russian comments. For example, I played the English version "You Are Empty", and did not find it used much of a sound.
Anyway, I intend first finish playing the Stalker, and only then get Cryostasis. Which will take probably at least couple of more months. :)

I've enjoyed this game very much, but I'm not really happy about 1C's distribution in Western Europe, it's almost impossible to get a retail here. We also didn't manage to contact 505 for a digital distribution version, like they did with other 1C games. I've played the game unpatched with an illegal version in december-january. I decided to dedicate a very long review to probably the best Ukrainian game I played until now, it's better than ViviSector and more solid than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vanilla anyway..
