Hi,
I send an email to the support department but I'm not getting any reply.
My problem is this. I've bought King's Bounty last week but my DVD drive (an Optiarc AD-7173S) doesn't recognize the DVD.
I've tried to access the disc under Windows XP, tried accessing it via Linux and even via the BIOS but it doesn't seem to work. I even updated the drive's firmware. All other CDs and DVDs I own (which are a lot) work just fine with my drive.
My laptops DVD drive _does_ read it however. But it lacks the hardware for actually playing the game itself.
I'm thus kinda puzzled what to do. The store will only exchange it for a copy of the same game, but I somehow suspect it's not a scratch but probably has more to do with the way you mastered the DVD.
So how can I play the game?
Regards,
Ren

Hi again,
One week since I've tried emailing tech support and posted on this forum. I still have a game that I can't play. Is this the right place for support?

You can try to change the disk at the retailer you bought it. I think the problem is in your drive, try to update its BIOS.
Good luck.

You can try to change the disk at the retailer you bought it. I think the problem is in your drive, try to update its BIOS.
Good luck.
1) I already mentioned that the retailer will only replace the disc with an identical one.
2) Yes I also think it's the drive, since the disc works ok on my laptop, but I hardly think that the solution should be "Buy a new drive for your desktop" when my drive is perfectly ok with any other disc out there.
3) I already mentioned I updated the DVD drives firmware
So, any suggestions? As far as I see it there are 3 possibilities.
1) I noticed you guys have an online version, I could send you a scan of the receipt, or I can even send you the original disc and you give me an electronic version so that I can finally play the game I paid for.
2) You guys release a 1.8 patch that dumps this faulty copyright protection. I make a copy of the install files on my laptop and transfer them to my desktop machine where I install it. Then I run the 1.8 patch and I can play the game I paid for.
3) You tell me to buy a new drive, which is nonsense because the disc is most likely not reading due to your copyright protection scheme. (Probably not ISO compliant I presume.) Since I don't want to buy a new drive for something that is not my fault I would be forced into step 2, but then use a crack instead.
I am a legitimate customer. I bought this game and my computer fulfills the minimum requirements specified on the back of the case. I expect to be able to play this game.

renhoek - No all drives and dics are created equal. This is also compounded by the fact that you use your desktop drive more often than you laptop drive which increase it wear and tear.
The game disc itself will not have a perfect stamp of the original master too. Mos well know brand and new (as in not used too much) drives can compensate for this physical imperections.
In your case just ask the retailer if you can exchange your disc with another copy of King's Bounty. Any repectable retailer will obliege you in this manner.
Oh, if you happen to like watching VCDs/DVDs and used a lot of burned media (CDs/DVDs) you should consider getting a cheap working drive for that. And use a branded drive for gaming, software installation and burning only.

I have this problem allso. I do not use my drive much at all maybe 3 or 4 times every few weeks if at all seeing as I play online most of the time.
I have taken the disk back and got a new one. Still will not work.
To think that my 30 bucks has got me nothing but a disk that will not work in a DVD drive is rather lame.
And yes I updated my drivers. And to think that other have had this problem for over a week and have had NO help is rather sad.
Make a patch. Fix this. Thank you.

My drive is fine, I don't use it a lot. The fact that it reads all other discs I own just fine proves this.
I got as much support on this as I had expected, even though I had a small glimmer of hope for an exchange for an online version.
I've taken the most customer friendly route and just downloaded a pirated version, so I can now finally play the game that I paid for two weeks ago.
If any of you official customer support guys want to get in touch with me and try to rectify this abysmal solution then you have my email address.

I have got exactly the same Problem here. Bought King's Bounty the Legend (German Version) at my games store of trust (can proof this). When I put the Game into my DVD Drive the reading light blinks shortly and then nothing happens...
System Specs: Windows XP SP3, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 2Gb Ram, Radeon X1800 512mb, NEC DVD_RW ND-4550A
My Computer is filling all the requirement of the Game, all Drivers are on newest Version, my DVD Drive works fine for all other DVDs and Games, never had Problems with it. On my Office PC the Autorun and Installation Screen starts as intended when putting the DVD into the Drive (although I cant install there cause of business rules :) ) So, the Game DVD should be correct!
Other Games like HOMM V and Fallout 3 work perfectly fine on my system...
What can I do?
It makes me quite angry not be able to play a Game I bought legaly, probably cause of the copy protection.....

you probably downloaded the wrong patch. This happened to me last night.
I downloaded 1.7 and then my DVD drive said wrong disc. I downloaded 1.6.5 and then it worked.

This is not a case of patches.. The DVD itself is not readable AT ALL. So we can't even install the damn game.

Yes, like Renhoek said, its not a patch problem, the DVD itself doesnt start on our computers. (But on an other computer I tried it, the autorun screen where you choose to install game starts properly (didn't install the game there)).
Still waiting for help to play a game I bought for around 50 Euros.... What shall I learn from it? Better download next time???
If this helps, got similar problem with overlord game I bought two weeks ago on sale. (But not with Fall Out 3 and many other recent Games, its NOT my DVD drive!). Neither got help from support there.... (around 4 Mails written)
My theory is that it is the copy protection. (But no Nero or similar installed on system, no processes running (all stopped for installation via msconfig), internet connection running properly).
Plz help me, I want to play this exellent game! Or at least give me Information how to give back Game and get Money back. (Seller won't take back opened software). Got the cash voucher.
What a shame, if this continues I am turning from a regular legal game buyer, which buys over ten fullprize games a year (and more budget games:)), to a online thief...

Still no Answer on this official Forum.........
PLZ help me or explain to me how to get my Money back! I have the right to give back the software, if it doesnt work (when I am meeting the requirement listed on the back of the DVD, which I do)!
I paid for the software and I want to use it or get my money back!
Sorry me for acting like a game junckie, but this is more a principle thing... I bought a Game legaly and I want to play it on my fully functional PC, or get the money back. I used normal ways of reclamation on this official publisher forum with no result.
