Hey all Paladins in shining armors, Mages in blue robes and Warriors in golden breastplates!

I was thinking that it would be really educating and interesting if KB players would post videos of their battles, dont you all think? I personally would love to see how different people use their greatly discussed strategies in the actual battle.

Maybe it could be done just by uploading them on YouTube or similar places and putting the link in this thread. All open for suggestions on how to make this work better! I know there will propably be people that think this is quite a dumb idea, but hey! I think it's worth trying to get this thing started. I'd love to see some battle sessions from some of the great strategists in these forums (Gatts, Calinda, sector24, Keneth...).

Just as a tip for folks who don't know how to record your gaming sessions, here's one software to do it: FRAPS (http://www.fraps.com/).
It's free to use if you don't mind the watermark. I personally wouldn't mind if there were some watermarks on video, as long as I can see the action.

Ps. Please don't get mad if your name did not come up on the Great Strategists -list. Just trying to make a little example... :-) ;)

I totally agree with the video upload idea.

Even if most of the strategies are well described in some POSTs in here, still, seeing means believing, right?

I would upload my videos, but actually there is nothing special to see (I never made a game without loses and was able to finish impossible only few weeks ago without helping myself with a cheat from time to time... and I hate cheating so much...)

but I would post maybe later a video of my "true love" battle scenario : beating black dragons with vampires... I found it always very very exciting making sure my vamps will survive (when they dropped to 20% of their original stack number, I was sometimes even sweating from stress... I was afraid I could bite out my tongue... as starting over from last quick save was scaring me as hell) ...

BTW: Could someone post here a program / link that makes ingame videos capturing easy? (So players who would like to post their videos, do not need to spend 2 hours on google) :)

One of the easiest progs is FRAPS
Here is the link for free version: http://www.fraps.com/download.php

Absolutely great to hear some opinions on this idea! I was thinking that no one would bother to start this thing going, so I'm going to try to record one of my own battles and submit it in here. It ain't gonna be anything to wait for though :-P.

Hopefully we are going to get some nice discussions going on with these videos.

Gatts: Heh, I actually mentioned one example of recording program in my post. The same that Nike-it posted about. Anyone know any other ones?

I wish I will have some spare time this evening from the christmas present packings for the video recording...

RECORDING PROGRAMS
Here are the three recording programs which I have found so far. Seems like CamStudio is the only one actually free and limitless.

Here are the programs:
CamStudio (http://camstudio.org) (http://camstudio.org) (COMPLETELY FREE, NO REGISTER)
FRAPS (http://www.fraps.com/) (http://www.fraps.com/) (NEEDS REGISTERING, COSTS, Max 30 seconds with trial)
GameCam (http://www.planetgamecam.com) (http://www.planetgamecam.com) (NEEDS REGISTERING, COSTS, Max 30 seconds with trial)

UPS - you really did state FRAPS ... I missed it... baka me

Ok, downloaded FRAPS and as backup the other programs :) I just hope the videos won't be too huge... (well - still we may use youtube links... it was about a time to create an account there :) heh)

Don't await my posts to early, I am little bit grampy in new programs usage... :) also I have very limited internet access, but I will totally post at least one battle movie... :)

I hope I will mange to run the movies in moviemaker of Win XP - to be able to add some notes... the comments may be interesting for the audience ...

This is what I'm worried about FRAPS:

492

Is there really a 30 seconds limit for recording?

Well, just got to test it at home...

I think the 30 sec thing is about the watermark, it appears only 30 seconds in each video, also it is a great idea but im not a big fan of downloading programs :D , i shoulda got gamecam quite some years ago cause i had to do something with it and yet i didn't.

That's what I thought too... and hoped.

Sorry people, I had the first video posted on this reply, but I had to delete it for now. It was quite horrible quality and pointless battle anyway.

I'm going to keep on working with the videos after the christmas. I'll try to get the guide for uploading them. Hopefully some people will put on some of their own battles in the meantime!

Merry X-mas everyone!

I have realized that Fraps makes only 30 seconds videos, which are HUGE in MB, from the other two, one was downloading with rare slowness (20- kbps) and the other one was not able to capture videos in KB w/o creating lags/ shaky video/ video distortion... but was able to capture in better format than Fraps, much less in MBs... after all I did not see any usage in 30 seconds videos of 300+ MB each from fraps and the the other video capture programs were quite a failure... sorry - no videos from my side... (maybe some hints from experienced users for me could help)

I've also figured out that in order to make the videos without using any money on recording programs, FRAPS and GameCam is out of the question. I've been able to record very good quality videos without any lag with CamStudio, but when I try to downsize it to YouTube size, it goes laggy and so small that you can't see very well the numbers of creatures in combat. You can see them... but you really have to look close to the screen (which is not very convenient and what I'm NOT looking for).

So if there are any people who have been uploading ANY videos to YouTube, some hints for the right uploading (free) programs would be great!

I'll keep on experimenting with the CamStudio and different uploaders. Thanks Gatts for giving your support in this matter! ;)

I wonder why CamStudio caused performance issues while recording... probably low hardware setting of my PC? I now I was able to start the CamStudio only outside of KB tL, and if I alt+Tabed back to KB, it was sooo slow... (the action key from CamStudio did not initiate recording if I am in KB tL)... or is this some setting issue? (To make CamStudio compatible with 3D games? Or shell I just lower the game settings?... but why did fraps work so well? - well, maybe that's why it is payed, not freeware)

Hmmh, I didn't encounter much slowing of my game when I used CamStudio. Altough I did not use Alt+Tab at all. I just hit the record, started the game, load my save, went to battle, exited after battle and shut down the CamStudio's recording.

I was wondering would it help to start the game as windowed rather than full screen to reduce the stuttering of game for you?

basically windowed mode is slower, but I can try it... also I haven't tried to run camstudie prior starting KB... will do so today
