I am playing as a Paladin level 23 but whenever I want to upgrade this particular item, I think its the Wizard's staff to level 3, I lose!
Part of the reason is because of these stupid griffins keep on reproducing themselves and even if i kill the they get reborn also the bad guys keep on turning my troops into dumb sheep's!
Plus there are about 10 wizards, inquisitors and priests each so i can't defeat them, the spirits of rage are nowhere to be seen and only come very late to make any difference, i want to post a video or screen so that you may advise me on this so how do i do this, help!

Nevermind, I beat the keepers of the item!

Well, I try following strategy:

1.) remove mad gremlin towers for all costs (even if this would mean to rush in the middle of enemy ranks... mostly in this item battle it is not that bad - as there are mostly only shooters near the towers - two wins for me)

2.) then the "good" gremlin tower, speed/slow and god armor are nasty... down with em!

3.) Griffins...

4.) If I still live and have some mana -> ressurect (if having living army) or corner shooters to "suck" my lost units back (ghosts/ vamp... of course ghosts tend to die quite fast - as they have little HP and get hit by Lightning/ magical attack very often)

But more I would be interested how did you beat them, what difficulty you played on? (I assume Impossible) -> even ingame video (you can convert it to 300x200 -> we would know :) ) ... please, Metroplex...:o

the 'good' gremlins are awesome, they keep spawning stacks and buffing/debuffing, they never cast offensive spells. So, one can safely build up rage/mana and proceed to resurrect every single killed units, train the Spirits of Rage, collect huge amounts of money (robers+gift!)and/or pump up the most valuable units with sacrifice/resurrect.
I did buy a half dozen otherwise useless items just for that purpose, to have the most possible 'upgrade' keeper fights!!Very usable units for keeper battles IMO: Inquisitors and Shamans (totems!!). At your level, you should have Dryads too. It shouldn't be hard to cast a couple phantoms on the dryads and put everyone to sleep. Can the Inquisitors and Archmages be put at sleep?

Letting good gremlins live to stock up your lost unit? GREAT IDEA! Well, no wonder that I am stuck with nickname "Gatts" - [name of one berserker]... I just always want to kill my enemy ASAP and also humiliate them as much as possible... trickery and planning is not my part of strategy (0-loss? never ever could work for me :) )

Yes, since the 'friendly' gremlins never attacks you (they may/will use some useless debuff like pygmy or slow for example), it's easy to manipulate them. They will always respawn a certain unit on the predefined spot. If you park a good melee unit next to the spawning spot, that new stack will be unable to perform any ranged attack, so all your other units are perfectly safe. Put a Totem of Life nearby, and there you go: a neverending closed loop. Every x turns cast Lina's Chargers, have one fast unit collect the rage/mana, have the Inquisitors cast Holy Anger every second turn, have Reaper cast Rage drain every xx turns, there you go: neverending supply of mana/rage. I must admit that the idea is not mine, I just jumped in to..reap the fun and rewards :D
I still have tons of un-upgraded items in my inventory, since I consider the upgrade fights to be too valuable and rare to 'waste' them just like that. If I can upgrade the item, and at the same time 'gain' a couple hundreds of my most valuable/rare units like Inquisitors etc, why not wai a bit with the upgrading? :P

I took some screenshots with FRAPS and tried to upload them but it was taking too long so I gave up and deleted them, I got some warriors and horsemen to help me defeat te keepers but in the end it was all for nothing as I sold the item as I didn't see it as helping me.
The reason the spitits don't show up is because I'm playing as a Paladin and I don't have much rage.

Metroxplex, if you anticipate a hard fight, always use a rage potion or a 'use' from a rage giving item etc.

I reccomend killing the enemy armies first, as with 11-13k health the towers take a while to kill unless you are using something like canoneers which do double damage to gremlin towers.
